Thank god it's over, what a terribly paced dumb story full of zero personality characters. So much filler, doesn't start addressing the core story until the last four episodes. Shallow romance and cringe inducing comedy that never made me laugh. I knew I should've dropped it early on but I was foolishly curious to see what would happen, imagine my shock when it ends in the most predictable way possible. 1/10

I have to say this was probably the worst anime I've ever seen. (It's not actually as bad as that sounds, but I tend to gravitate to ones I'd like even if they were distinctly average)

The comedy started out decent but got old quickly, the characters were oddly bland except, ironically, the personalityless Chi!

The human robot relationships are weirdly creepy... It's like grooming a child to worship the ground you walk on because you feed them and teach them. To Chi, Hideki is the font of all knowledge so to her it seems like his word is law. If he told her that getting beaten with a pan for burning that stew was love it would make her happy.

4/10, 6/10 with the super chill mid 00's soundtrack.

Even if there are things a persocom couldn't do that doesn't matter. As long as they are together and happy, that's the only thing that matters.

Anyway, a lot of things that happened in the last few episodes made little sense and it felt like I was suddenly watching a different show. The first half of the series was really funny romcom stuff. They should've stick to that instead of this conspiracy secret technology syndicate whatever this storyline was. They overcomplicated a romantic story between machine and human. I'm glad it was a happy ending, but I didn't like it. Despite that I still had a great time and Chi is the example of an ideal waifu. hehe 7/10

A fine show. At first I couldn't stand Hideki, we was just too dumb and unreliable and half-assed. But in some point, you start to... stand him. The show has some reminiscences of Plastic Memories, with the "obvious" differences. The "conspiracy" arc is fine to me, moar romcom stuff would be definitely too sticky.

BTW I can't get the opening out of my mind!!

Just finished rewatching this show; it was one of the first anime I watched around 2005 when I rented the DVD from the local video rental place. Finishing it up now, 16 years later, it's just alright. I loved the manga and think the anime didn't really get in-depth enough into the core story. The first half of the show was pretty slow and filler-esque but the second half was pretty good.

I don't really care for Hideki at all, but loved the side story with the baker and Yumi. Loved Chi, Sumomo, and Kotoko the most of all the characters. I wish the ending was a bit slower and more philosophical, but all-in-all it was a fine show.

The story between Yumi and Hiroyasu rly surprised me, bc I didn't expect that he had some kind of sentimental relationship with a persocom at all. Besides that, it looked to me that Yumi-chan had some feelings for Hideki. Last but not least, it surprised me that Hiroyasu was around 38 yo (according to his MAL Bio) and had a sentimental relationship with a high school girl.

I liked his back story with the persecom, that was a nice touch and lead up to Hideki's love for Chi.

Yeah, have you seen/read anything else by CLAMP? They are notorious for showing all kinds of relationships in their stories... including taboo (and criminal) age-gap ones. In Cardcaptor Sakura, there is a mid-30s teacher and a 4th grader who have basically promised themselves to each other once she grows up. So uhhh this relationship with Yumi is pretty tame compared to that lol.

Yeah. After Hiroyasu told him his story with the persocom and the deep talk Hideki had with Hiromu about relationships (it left me a great sentence, something like "No half-assed relationships allowed"), Hideki saw the green light to confess his troubled feelings to Chii.

TBH, I usually don't pay attention to the authors/studios, although I know CLAMP made Cardcaptor Sakura. The relationship you mentioned has reminiscences of Theseus and Helen from Greek Myth (afair). I don't know the legal age in Japan (in my country is 18) but still, such a gap troubles me a lot.

I remember when I was around 13 yo and my best friend was 14, and his sister was around 17, and had a consensual relationship (consented by her relatives) with a 42 yo widow man. So yes, this was around 25 years ago, and the huge-age gap relationships are "taboo". Still, they aren't uncommon at all.

Eh, the show was fine until the last 6 episodes but then dropped the ball. So unnecessary unoriginal drama.

An average show, 5/10

Chi cries, how can it happened is there water store inside her computer body ?

Ending is kinda acceptable for me atleast. Sumomo is the only character I like here her energy makes her so kawaii. Looks like I have to read the manga for more clear info still many questions left unanswered. Gave it a 7/10...

Gonna agree with the people saying the manga was better overall, however the "filler" episodes ended up being the parts of the anime I enjoyed the most. That was at least "new" material in the anime, was generally fun IMO, and I don't think they suffered some of the pacing issues that the episodes directly adapting the manga chapters did.

I agree with the last commenter. I liked the filler the most. The most the anime got deeper into the weird story towards the end, the worse it got. Still, it was entertaining enough to keep me hooked. Even the poor ending can’t drop my score, because I liked too many things about it overall. The art, the music, the plot.

I said in a recent comment for another series that a masterpiece blows you away from the first episode on. This anime is no masterpiece but I was absolutely hooked in from the first episode. There were definitely some lows, including the finale which prevent this from being a 10, but considering how I felt binging through this, I knew it had to be up there around a 9. I thought maybe after the ending I should go with an 8 but I realized I enjoyed this series more than the other ones I gave an 8 to.

The show got a really high score from me and I genuinely feel like it deserves it. One of the main reviews I read coming into here gave it a 2 and basically said the whole thing was trash except the intro song. Yeah the intro song is catchy and I like it too, but wth? It’s a repeating short loop of the same six words! How in the world is the rest of this show trash? Are we reviewing the same series? People’s preferences sure are different, but I guess that is what makes the comment section entertaining here.

Again this is a top notch show. I always have this feeling leaving ones like this that it’s going to be awhile till I love one again. It’s bittersweet.

The final episode was terribly paced, and the sub-plots were all over the place, so most of them didn't have the emotional impact I think they should've. That said, it also had a lot of funny scenes, Chii is cute and a great contribution to every scene she's in, and it was effective at conveying tension when it wanted to. I just wish the plot was less random. The slice of life scenes always worked, but the drama just came across as contrived when it wasn't related to Chii.

All the persocoms (except the two assassin idiots near the end) in this anime were entertaining and the best part about it. It's a neat anime with a lot of cool concepts, and it delivered on a good portion of them. I'm hoping the manga makes up for a few of the shortcomings the anime has.

It was a nice little show. The ecchi tag put me off at first but seriously it's doing this show injustice. I saw worse things in shows without this tag. They just should tag it for adults not adult content, meaning it's not suitable for children but it's not so profane.

I'll be honest, I only watched this anime because Chi is super cute. I wasn't expecting anything, I knew it was a simple romantic anime, probably generic, but the whole persocoms thing caught my attention.

From what I've read the manga explains the story better, I feel like the anime didn't explain the whole thing well. As most already said here, some fillers were a bit annoying but all in all- I found it entertaining and fun. And obviously, I love Chi she's so cute!

The story could have had more potential, they could have created something shocking but meh, it was very cheesy and I feel like in the last episodes they rushed everything to end the story. But at the end of the day, it's a good anime if you want to watch something for entertainment, or cuteness, not if you want to watch something serious with a deep story. Which is fine.

I'll give it a 7.5/10, it's not the best I've seen, but Chi is so cute she deserves a high score <3

Btw it's kind of weird to think that Chi is never going to age. So we'll have 50 year old Hideki with a persocom girlfriend who looks like a 16 year old.... And that Hideki will die someday and what will happen to Chi? Loll

So, after spending most of the season doing filler with little substance, all that was actually important to the story was cramped into the last few minutes in a haphazard way.

I regret not picking up this series sooner, Madhouse still delivers (as long as the source is good). Ah, I'm tearing, Chi is happy that's all I wanted, that now all the persocoms seem to be able to feel emotions is grandiose plus.

This show was very good. I enjoyed watching Hideki and Chii bond, Chii's knowledge and capabilities grow, and seeing how the show explored the pro's and cons of falling in love with a humanoid robot. You have to give to the all female team of CLAMP. They'll give you wholesome but it's not always going to be a fairy tale! Also glad to see an MC out of school, working part time and just trying to make it into college. That's a pretty refreshing position to put your protagonist in these days. Also it had a great and well integrated side cast. I don't think any named character was underutilized. I'm very happy to have watched.
