I dont think you have been watching the show very attentively if you say that. Langa fucks up A LOT. Like, really, a lot. He has talent and great instincts thanks to his years long experience with snowboarding but that's all really. It's like saying I'm a genius bc i performed well when i first tried ice skating but in fact I just got it pretty quick bc i used to roller-skate. Langa still fucks up the most basic stuff and lucks out a lot. He even needs adjustments to his board so he could get an illusion of snowboarding. It's Miya who is a prodigy character here. So you assuming that Langa is suddenly this super amazing and talented dude that can pull off all those tricks and amazing performances while Reki can't, doesn't rly line up with canon. Even this ep, Reki pulled off a move that he only learnt yesterday? a couple days ago? idk what was the time frame. That just proves he picks up tricks fast and is as talented as Langa lol But he is not rly given a chance to show that. Though there would be nothing wrong if Reki was just a dude in love with skateboarding, but the issue is how the story does not treat him like an equal lead at all.
The problem with "protagonist" Reki is that he appears to be a stepping stone for Langa. So far his only role was to teach Langa how to skate, cheer on him from the sidelines and be a punching bag. That honestly could be any supporting character. If this continues there wont even BE TIME for Reki to have his character arc lol And if he has one just bc Langa is not there (if the opening is any foreshadowing) then i dont think the writers are doing a rly good job there.
Well, I was comparing Reki and Langa because they're the two main leads. Langa messes up a lot, but that doesn't mean he isn't a genius. Ever since he started skateboarding Reki was very vocal about his talent, constantly telling how quickly he learns new things compared to Reki himself. And looking at how he invents new moves every time, it's obvious that he's a skateboarding genius. That's what genius means. Miya, on the other hand, is a classic prodigy, so obviously he's on a different level, but he's only a side character. I've never called Langa a prodigy.
Genius and prodigy are two different thing. Here's a copypasta from google to explain:
"A genius is a very intelligent person but breaks away from the traditional ways of thinking. On the other hand, a prodigy is someone who masters a discipline at a very young age. This is the key difference between a genius and prodigy."
See how well the description fits the two?
For Reki's own "character arc", instead of making assumptions, it'd be better to wait for the actual content to be released. What we have seen so far is only 1/3 of the whole story. And as I said, since his whole life's purpose is having fun with skating and making friends along the way, he doesn't need to win races left and right or go through a sob/inspiration story. He doesn't need to be a textbook protagonist. There are other ways to be a good protagonist than going through the usual methods, but as I said, we shall wait and see instead of assuming.

he created Langa's board and he is also helping Langa with lots of tips, but i would like to see him win a race.
He lost agaist Miya and he will lose almost for sure agaist Adam. Reki's character is used only to show the new "antagonist"/opponent's power.
I really hope that he will have a glorious moment also as a main character and not just as a supporter of Langa
