Maybe I'm just wishful thinking, but recently I heard this show being jokingly called a creationism satire and it really makes sense. Yes, even as a joke. Most likely, the author just wanted to talk about the "cool animals" in an intuitively entertaining manner, but the way premise interacts with the pseudo-Christian universe cannot but remind me constantly of religious satire, or at least mocking. Especially if you take into account that one of the designers working for God is the over-the-top okama.

They treat God like a kid that just asks for crazy stuff because he's bored and he's not reasonable. It's 100% creationism satire lol, they're not even hiding it at all.

That's what I mean, lol. I don't know if this was intentional, but literally every detail in the author's premise sounds like she's mocking the "realism" of creationists.

What I was trying to say in my comment is that's totally intentional, there's plenty of subliminal comments suggesting it. You can be completely sure that it is XD

So, this an intentional religious satire from a BL writer with biological education?

Yep, it's so obvious. Satire and also educational, because the existent animals information is real and interesting.

It's just a comedy series with plenty of gags, nothing more and nothing less.
If you see it as a satire of Abrahamic religions or creationism then you're missing the point.

Funny enough. I just watched the latest episode and I thought exactly that. I wasn't sure if I would like this anime at first because it seemed extremely religious. But it turned out the creationism is treated as an unrealistic and absurd setting and that makes the whole show extremely funny. It is obvious the author isn't supporting creationism, but isn't straightforwardly mocking it either. They even called the beta testing island Galapagos just to show that the author actually support evolution.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is also a satire on religious homophobia here. Because BL is the main work of the author and they put in some gay jokes here too.

not exactly sure why you see this as strange or subversive, christianity is a mere curiosity to japan, and is often used as a vague lore backdrop like norse mythology might be for the west

maybe it's subversive in your life but i guarantee the author(s) mean nothing subversive by it, since they most likely don't even take it seriously in the first place

one of the designers is trans, so definitely rubbing salt into the proverbial wounds when it comes to certain religious leadership’s lack of support for LGBTQ+ rights

I would not say that they is trans, rather okama, but I understood what you wanted to say.

I want to say that for the Japanese, this is just a cool foreign holiday without much meaning.

This whole thread is stupid, I can’t tell if your genuinely offended that someone is using the concept of god creating animals as satire or not but you like to make the author seem like a bad person because they also create BL which is stupid on your part, also Venus/Kanamori is trans not an Okama because the characters refer to her as she because while they got a male body they go by she, I’m genuinely surprised with the representation but it’s there. Anyway if you read this far anyone reading just know this is a thread made by a Christian who can’t take people making satire off a small tidbit of their religion or at the very least that’s how they come off as

Umm, dude, are you sure you got it right what this thread is about?
