I'm already watching the one that is currently airing right now (Winter 2021), and I'm wondering if watching these OVAs from 2012 will add to the story's experience.

I think old version is better. But I like relaxing animes like shoujo shuumatsu ryouko. New version has too much music (my opinion) and I dont like this but art is really good new version (old versions art is low quality). Finally, I couldnt find last 2 ep on the internet u cant watch it all just 4 episodes. So I think it isnt waste of time it is a short anime. (There isnt extra information about story their story is same)

Well, this version doesn't have a very high production quality, but if you only care about the characters, I think the OVAs capture them excellently. I also do think that the OVAs are paced a bit slower, if you'd prefer that (I'm not 100% sure, but that's what it felt like going into the full adaptation currently airing). If you have some time on your hands, you should check them out! :)

You can't find the last two episodes because they're not out yet. They're set to be released later this year ;)

Curious, are these last two episodes already out in Japan and we're just waiting for a domestic release (or maybe a fansub?) I'm just wondering what the motivation is to continue this series if the 2021 version is already airing with updated visuals, etc.

I have no idea why this is happening. And I'm pretty sure they're not yet out in Japan. They were announced on Dec 30: https://myanimelist.net/news/61542605

Assuming that this 2012 version is canon and faithful to the source material, we'll get to see two different artistic interpretations between the 2012 and 2021 versions. Interesting.

I just remembered something: I think the first OVA actually predates the debut of the full release of the manga, and the OVAs are actually based on the original webcomics. I'm not sure, though. And I also couldn't tell you what difference it would make.

That alone is reason enough to watch the 2012 version, regardless of whether you've read the manga and/or are watching the 2021 version.

I totally agree with that.

Yes absolutely. It follows the original webcomic, which inspired the manga that’s being adapted now. It’s much simpler and moves pretty quick, but the pacing is natural. It’s a really nice and chill OVA series.
