ok here's a few

shinsekai yori is garbage

the first season of Unlimited Blade Works is too slow and dialogue-heavy

Carole and Tuesday was generally mediocre

the promised neverland has a terrible premise that shatters any reasonable suspension of disbelief

the first season of log horizon was boring

neon genesis evangelion was boring

darling in the franxx was never good

Some of my potentially debatable opinions of the top of my head:

  • K-On! is one of the most average and generic SoL/comedy's that I've ever watched. Compared to stuff like Hidamari Sketch and Yuru Yuri, I don't see why it gets so much praise at all. I just can't think of anything that it has going for it that other shows don't do better
  • Hunter x Hunter is the most overrated show of all time. It's definitely not bad, but it's hopelessly dull for a majority of the show and the entire setting feels incohesive and hard to take seriously. The Chimera Ant Arc, often proclaimed as one of the best stories told in the entire medium, is an utter waste of time excluding two scenes total
  • Konosuba was a fun show to begin with, but quickly devolved into one of the most cringe and poorly aging shows I've been exposed to. It begins as a good-hearted parody but gets quickly reduced to the same two or three distasteful gags while simultaneously becoming what it sought out to make fun of. The movie was the biggest transgressor by far and was almost unwatchable for the most part

but I don't think you're wrong in the sense that I don't find your criticisms invalid

Fair, definitely gets much better in the second half in my opinion. Heaven's Feel handles the first portion in a much more digestible manner, in my opinion

That's a hot take-- to be honest, the premise was the only thing that I really liked. However, I think we could agree that the overall narrative logic in the show is pretty unconvincing and nonsensical at times.

As someone who considers themselves a fan, I totally agree. The "boss of the week" first half of the show is really dull and underwhelming. Honestly, I think that the rebuild series is much better in this regard.

Reasonable, it's really just a mashup of Gainax intellectual property and pretty art at the end of the day. Personally, I found it to be pretty endearing but I totally get why people think it's garbage.

  • The 1st 8 episodes of Ouran Koukou Host Club is 1/10; imo it is one of the misogynistic shows I've ever watched that throws it off as parody
  • Tonikaku Kawaii is crap and always was crap; the MCs just do mundane stuff that middle school couples do and the male lead is 100% incel's version of nice guy
  • No Game No Life is a horrible ecchi with unfunny comedy, uninteresting premise, and to put it nicely, unlawful & unethical relationships between two siblings, one of which is an adult and a minor
  • Majo no Tabitabi tried to be a different fantasy anime but came off as one of the most morally corrupt shows of the season
  • Sakuta from Bunny-Girl Senpai is an incel which severely distracts from its themes of adolescence; the uninspired series p much copy pasted the Monogatari series and part of Oregairu
  • Yuri!! On Ice is one of the worst BLs in creation; it queerbaits and uses fanservice for fujo and fudo fans w/o being serious enough for an actual male on male relationship and thus gives the LGBTQ+ community a bad rep (this is not a hot take imo but Given is miles better)
  • One Punch Man S2 is underrated. Sure the CG and animation isn't good, but there are significantly worse things like the Golden Kamuy Bear & the Attack on Titan turkey.

I can't but help seeing being morally corrupt as a good thing in the context of Majo no Tabitabi

I think the characterization of Elaina as someone who goes places, does odd jobs for money, and then fucks off elsewhere comes off a little better than her going around and freeing the slaves, doing jobs for free because it's the right thing to do etc

Since I'm here I might as well drop some hot takes in a little more of a meta sense

A flawless show can still be a 5/10 because just because something isn't bad doesn't make it good

"Unlimited budget works" is pretty insulting towards the skill of the ufotable staff as it basically discounts their skill as a matter of them throwing cash around

People who watch a bunch of shows aren't necessarily better judges of anime than people only watch one or two shows a season

romance in anime where they kiss once in the last episode is the equivalent of telling someone you got pizza and then giving them a pizza-flavored can of pringles

Ironically shilling Bakugo x Uraraka to make people seethe is pretty cool
