Are you telling Mion wouldn't show up at the festival at least?

i got the impression that this + her replacing the club symbolized her new school life caused her to care less about hinamizawa (for now), which would be a parallel with what would be happening to rika in the future

She's the next family head and and a soon to be super important figure in Hinamizawa's political scene, so I don't believe for a second Ouryo and Kimiyoshi wouldn't tell her to come to the most important announcement of the town in years.

And it is impossible to imagine that the girl that was ready to get shot to protect her friends would "care less" one year later.

We are finally starting getting the answer to why Rika was looping again in Gou. Nice to see older Rika and Satoko. Especially Satoko who was most of the time an unbearable stupid brat. Weird that Mion wouldn't attend the festival. Maybe something happened to her? The new ED was pretty good but i'm not sure if we will hear it again in the future episodes.

there should have been an explanation behind it from their perspective but i think the idea itself of her not showing up makes perfect sense thematically if the story is going the route i suspect it is

well wouldn't this apply to rika too? she spent a hundred years seeing her friends die after trying to save them and then she got went on about how she wanted to move on from the village

A year later, an 1 hour travelling distance.

She didnt abandon her friends...Pursuing a better future, in the next town, isnt the same as leaving everything behind.

Well...quite confusing for sure...but heh noone died this time which is already good, even for a falshback or something like that.

and new ED as well without anything, just a song...I am really curious if it will be only for this episode or from now on the ED changed (which would be really surprising since we have ep18 already)

its not just about her future. pay attention to the classroom scene. they made it clear that her visiting them at any time was possible but she just didn't. they didn't refer to her new game club as something she did for a better college resume or anything. it was heavily implied she was simply making new friends and enjoying her current life

Interesting episode. I lowkey expected someone to end up dead after Oryou, Kimiyoshi and Rika announced the end of the curse of Oyashiro-sama lol. But it was interesting seeing Keiichi as president and stuff.

I'm glad that we now have confirmation that Rika wasn't a bitch immediately went "f u, bye" to all her friends (as some people seemed to reason in order to defend the indefensible thing Satoko did). Not only did she ask Satoko to go to St. Lucia with her, but she waited until it was confirmed that Satoko's syndrome was cured to go. All around solid gal.

I wonder if Satoko, like everyone else but Rika in this franchise, will have problems adapting to St. Lucia and if that will be the reason of her and Rika's rift.

Jin_uzuki said:

That's literally what I thought lol. I get they were trying to show the seeds of Satoko's actions in Mion leaving her friends behind, but her not going to the Watanagashi when she's the future head of the three families and part of the festival commitee is very silly.

What the fuck is happening? Abrupt start with Takano apprehended from Satoko's reveal last episode, to this slice of life again shit? And Hanyuu was there with them???

What?? I'm thoroughly confused as to what this series is trying to tell. I can't pin on the story itself, it's all over the place and it's very hard to connect one arc to another.

We're currently going to Satoko's past to see why she became a looper and went on to torture Rika. At first, they show the ending of the previous Higurashi, Matsuribayashi, which is the past that Satoko comes from originally. Hanyuu is with them to help them beat Rika's fate but, as it was explained in the manga and somehow in the second episode of Gou, she then went to sleep so that Rika could live fully or whatever. Next episode, we're probably going to explore Satoko's past to see what led to her actions in Gou.

And they say this show is for newcomers...

I was talking about Rika. But even if Mion made new friends it doesnt matter till we learn if there was any reason behind not visiting. It isnt just Mion, Shion was absent as well in 84's fest.

If the reason is "lol new Game Club" then fuck you Ryukishi.

The most disturbing in all that is that we know from episode 16 that Satoko

But now we learn that

So is the series telling us that Satoko is just a natural psychopath or is there something else that we don't know about yet ?

I don't think the syndrome was ever in play with Satoko, going L5 makes you go crazy and paranoid, Satoko was a genius perfect mastermind that managed to keep up the facade for several realities.

Even Takano having the syndrome was always ambiguous anyway and it always felt like it was just Tomitake making excuses because he's in love her and wants to redeem her.

Except that episode 17 DID show us that Takano is a decent individual and remorseful of her actions when she is no longer victim of the syndrom.

It seems like the episode makes a point to remind us that Takano's actions were done under the influence of the syndrome where Satoko won't even have that excuse if the events unfold as episode 16 implied.

i don't think the game club itself is the reason for her festival absence. its just a detail that tells the audience she has things going on in her new life that take priority to her than maintaining her old friendships. i'd be surprised if there were more details concerning this since this is all we needed to know what her post-hinamizawa mentality is like.

My guess is that he needed a reason to separate and isolate each club member. I don't believe for a second Shion would stop looking after Satoko (especially since she knows Comatoshi is in Irie's basement) and Mion would just miss Hinamizawa's biggest event. It feels like hack writing.

Shion has been strangely absent from the entire last arc and even before then. It's really weird.

Thanks to the start of this episode, I'm starting to think my "it's Hanyuu and Satoko"-theory from last week isn't that far fetched after all. Why would they focus on Hanyuu that much otherwise?
Having said that, this was the first episode of Gou I actually love.

This should've definitely been either the first episode of Gou or at leat the episode used for advertising it. It's the undeniable proof that all of Gou happens after Kai (as if that wasn't obvious enough by now). So can MAL please for the love of god change it from "alternative version" to "sequel"? ._.
I know I sound like a broken record, but it's more than annoying that this hasn't happened yet.

That Takano already murdered and vivisected Rika's mother years ago. It's unlikely she was L5 for years. We don't even know what's up with that Takano. Her will was so strong she created fate and then she suddenly gave up without any real explanation behind her behaviors.

Ok what the hell just happened? So Hanyuu is back with us, Mion graduated, Sakato is cured? Didn't Sakato just go crazy last episode, so different timeline or something? This is all so confusing and out of place for me, maybe it's just me not getting the whole picture though. Weird episode, kinda liked the slice of life aspect of this series. Actually brings up a new thought, side series for Higurashi where they are are normal kinda like a slice of life? Also new ed with no visuals, loved the vocals.

So now we going back to the ending of season 2 , The loop where Takano got caught for doing all the bad stuff. I really like this route tho because Rika and Satoko look really matured now, simply because their height increased a bit. Also we seeing St Lucia academy too oh boy, All aboard the answer arc train!

Ok, it looks like we are now following the end of the previous series to see how Satoko ended up the way she ended up. As a first timer I have to say that it's kind of weird. I understand what's going on but you can feel the lack of context, Hanyuu (which with what we've seen so far I'm guessing she's Oyashiro), Hinamizawa syndrome, the military groups involved in all this, etc.

Leaving that aside, it was nice to see a bit older Rika and Satoko although sad not to see Mion. Seeing the game club with different members and no Mion was weird.

I am very curious about Satoko because now that I think about it, if she is a looper and she is the one rolling the dice, was that arc with her uncle necessary? And it seems that even without Keiichi's intervention she would have been "freed" from the dam war.

If you are gonna check the manga version - you will find out, that story in the arcs goes on the almost different ways, than the anime's one, so...it can be parallel universe in gou plot, kinda like in Steins;Gate...but bad...and in the end Rika-1 and Rika-2 will win, together

Just check out the manga - you'll got that I am talking about then.

Making new friends doesn't work like that. You don't just Adiòs your old friends that you fought with and even were willing to take a bullet for some new friends a year later.

Even without their final battle against Takano, there is no way Mion would just ignore them.

At least that was her character before Gou.

Shion isn't like Mion. While she could have visited the village for the fest, and specifically Satoko, she isnt as close to the rest as Mion is.

I will just wait for an explanation if we even get one.

Hey, at least she didn't become a psycho killer like Satoko so that's something.

I swear to god if sakoto went evil because she couldn't get into or didn't want to go to a private school with rika XD. Why are people who haven't seen the original still watching? It was clear episodes ago that this series assumes knowledge of what happens in the original timeline-this episode is effectively an epilogue (albeit a foreboding one...) for the original series (which is really good btw).

Anime is good, fucking deal with it.

Tbf I don't think the show is trying to imply that persay, that just seems to be sakoto's reason so sakoto decided to lampshade rika into wanting to stay (by killing her and her friends countless times....). To be fair it does seem like sakoto might end up having a HS replase since it seems to convienient for an uncurable diesease to be cured suddenly... Lets hope all the shit can be sorted and rika can get back to her original timeline somehow tho feel like this'll be the end of rika and sakoto's friendship (assuming they were still friends in original timeline).

And that's my biggest problem. These aren't reasons to do any of that. If these are Satoko's reasons then she is ruined as a character;from a tragic kid character that fought to escape her own problems to a crazy killer because she can't fathom that her BFF lives a few kilometers away

Mion is the girl that:

1) Was literally willing to die for her friends
2) Covered for her friends in multiple realities when they committed murder
3) Was willing to forgive Rena despite her basically becoming a school shooter
4) Never went crazy in the original, never doubted her friends
5) Went crazy in Gou and murdered her family to protect Keiichi

Sorry but I'm not going to believe this is the girl that in a couple of months after Matsuri would just lose all contacts because she's too busy hanging around city kids. I don't care about "realism", this is a story where these people's friendship literally defeated a paramilitary organization using home alone traps.

Thought I guess all characters kinda lost their edge. Rena and Keiichi aren't doing so well either.

If you think this is confusing I wouldn't suggest you read something like Umineko, lol.

If you're still confused about this, the episode title states this is a new story arc and the beginning is basically the exact same as Kai's ending so you can pretty easily see what's going on here.

He doesn't understand what's happening cause he hasn't seen the Deen adaption (including Kai) or read the VN, so telling him that this is the same as Kai's ending won't help much ^^'

How did R07 expect newcomers to understand any of this?

This arc actually has Satoko in its name, so I'm really curious about how where we're going.

I think its obvious R07 was baiting, but if that's the case he can't be upset when so many people are left confused and bitter about this by not understanding anything lol

Episode was pretty slow, guess the important things like stamp motivation will be in the next one, it can go both ways so I won't pass judgement for now

How to make an after story - a backstory. And make it worse.

As you can see - it's easy.
We cannot change anything
Now, all that left - is waiting til the end.

"I've wished for this, I've bitched at that,
I've left behind this little fact -
You cannot kill what you did not create"

So, maybe you are the one, who can answer my question "why does every character WALKING? Why they doesn't use they bicycles except for 2 times in the watadamashi?"

So, we continue on the road of spoiling the original, whatever mysteries there was left of the OG, are getting spoiled one by one. And sadly that was the most interesting part. Not sure how anyone can find it interesting to go into the OG after this.

Also I guess it's about time to debunk yet another argument of the early GOU defenders.
"GOU will emphasize what Deen's adaptation lacked... Friendship"

I think that after this thing is over, some of us should go back to the threads of early episodes and read what we were spouting about :D

Takano always was decent individual,
Takano always was remorseful,
And she never was a victim of the syndrome - With the only possibly exception of the very end of Matsuri when everything went wrong for her.

Takano was under the influence of something a lot more commonplace and humane than the Syndrome. Ambition, Greed and Pressure.
In GOU, can't really say what happened to Ambition and Greed, but she's clearly lost the pressure.

Intelligent gets through situations which wise avoids.

Okay, so either this is an answer arc I'm assuming to explain what went down when Rika had that short flashback episodes ago that she told Sakoto she was going to St. Lucia.

OR, perhaps this is a very similar timeline to that, and now Rika is asking Sakoto to come with her, when in the past she didn't.

Hoping to figure that out soon.
