Zassou Tachi yo Taishi wo Idake A realistic representation of high school girls and friendships. It's a look at students' lives and the problems they encounter, how they affect them and how they treat them. The story is simple, upbeat and very realistic. |

Gokushufudou or "The Way of the House Husband" It's about an ex-Yakuza known as the Immortal Tatsu, who treats his new "occupation" as a house husband very seriously and treats mundane tasks like netting all the sales at the supermarket or making a profit on boba or playing Santa at a local Christmas show for the kids, like a battlefield. The comedic timing and the intense expressions are on point! Plus he's a man devoted to Miku, his very chill wife, and he'd go through water and fire just to see her smile. To quote Tatsu: "You'll never understand, no matter how ancient you get. There ain't a prize greater in the world than seein' a smile on my wife's face!! 'Cause when she's smiles that's all I need---" *at this point she clocks him out of embarrassment* |

1/11: Juiichi Bun no Ichi https://myanimelist.net/manga/34209/ I can only say I was awed by the quality of the storytelling, character exposition, and frame composition. The concept it is build on is a hard one to carry out, and the author did it masterfully. |

Greetings everybody, My username is Praetori_Samurai and I'm new to the club. I had to join after reading some great recommendations on the clubpage and finding a few of my own. The first I would like to recommend that doesn't look like it's been featured before is "Helck" by Nanaki Nanao. It's one of my favorites but doesn't seem to be that popular. Check it out and i hope y'all like it! Sincerely, Praetori_Samurai https://myanimelist.net/manga/77637/Helck P.S. The way I like to describe this manga to my friends is: It's like if you threw Allmight into Dark Souls. |

Sketchbook by Totan Kobako 4-koma slice of life about Sora Kajiwara, a quiet girl who goes through life at her own pace. She joins an art club and there you meet the other eccentric/zany/laidback members. Bad puns abound. A pet chicken and cats, cats, cats! It gave me the same feeling as Calvin and Hobbes. A love for the natural world, exploration, and introspective wry observations that allow you to laugh at and appreciate the little things in life. |

Kusuriya no Hitorigoto Our heroine is the sensible and pragmatic Maomao who works as a servant in the emperor's palace in ancient China. She's more interested in studying poisons and medicine than the gossip among the courtesans and a certain annoying eunuch who's rather charmed by her. Her sharp wit and knowledge of poisons helps her solve mysterious deaths made to look like accidents. |

Shimanami Tasogare https://myanimelist.net/manga/97244/Shimanami_Tasogare " Tasuku Kaname is a troubled high school student who is prepared to commit suicide because his classmates found out that he might be gay. As he questions his existence, the sight of a mysterious woman jumping off a nearby building leaves him utterly startled. He rushes to the scene only to discover her unharmed, soon learning that she is the owner of the aforementioned building, known to everyone as "Anonymous." Along with a beautifull and delicate art, it is one of best manga that portray lgbt+ people in japan and bits of their lives and problems, in a very realistic way with all the subtle and complexities of it. Without fetishism, as it is very common pratice that manga does. |

Chainsaw Man A very good tragic manga. Really great character development and story design, the pace is incredibly fast but not rushed , although it's tagged as shounen but you'd be surprised with the philosophy and the lack of "power of friendship". |

Hello again everybody! I'm so glad Helck was nominated as a hidden gem of the month for August! It is still one of my all time favorite mangas and it's a crime that it's not as well known. Recently I finished reading another short little hidden gem called Murasakiiro no Qualia or "Qualia the Purple" in English. This one isn't as easily approachable as Helck due to it going all in on the quantum theory and philosophy (think Shrödinger's cat with perception based reality and then go to the nth degree), but I believe it is absolutely another excellent hidden gem that everyone should check out! Even if you don't get the theory/philosophy, it's still a very good story and it's only 18 chapters! https://myanimelist.net/manga/51493/Murasakiiro_no_Qualia?q=qual Thanks again! Sincerely, Praetori_Samurai P.S. I describe this one to my friends as "Steins;Gate w/ a dash of Haruhi Suzumiya" |

Watashi no Shounen (My Boy) It's about a 30 year old woman named Satoko Tawada who works an average job an office worker and doesn't exactly have any prospects. She's content about having a stable lifestyle but she wouldn't say she's happy about her life. One late evening she finds a young boy, a 12 year old named Mashuu practicing soccer by himself. When he's approached by a suspicious man she intervenes and decides to help him practice, having played soccer in her teenage years. As they spend more time with each other and become more involved in each other's lives, they "develop an emotional bond that transcends their age difference and circumstances". You might know someone in Satoko's shoes or you might relate to her yourself. The author has a knack for natural conversation, self-doubts/self-criticisms, painfully realistic family situations, and dealing with feelings of infatuation that come with growing up. |

I hope I'm not out of line for dropping a few at a time. I prefer to read a lot, then go back and find what was good. Joshikausei 3 high school girls' daily lives, completely without dialog. Centaur no Nayami Everyone in the world is a supernatural creature, which brings some social and even political problems. Thermae Romae An ancient Roman architect gets to experience modern Japanese bathhouse. Jigoku no Alice A teenage sniper survives in a post-apocalyptic world. Fuuko no Iru Mise The rough life of a shy waitress. Unfortunately, only 2/4 volumes are translated. |

ZEPHYRUS1324 said: Fire Force (Enen no Shouboutai) it's underrated imo. Fire Force has to many members to count as a Hidden Gem. Any manga that has less than 20k members, and a rating of at least 7.0. These are suggested guidelines so if there is something with a slightly lower rating or slighting higher number of members the title can still be considered. Immortal Rain One of the first of many manga I read at my local library...starting with volume 2 because that's the only one that wasn't checked out. As it turned out, it was the only volume they had but the characters and the world they lived in stuck with me. I loved it for the art and for Rain, the 624 year old immortal, who's a total goofball but has endured a lot of pain and hardship at the hands of people who fear or covet his immortality. And yet he still continues to smile through that pain and is genuinely kind to everyone he meets. Then I found out the whole series was on a little website back in the day, known as OneManga.net... |

Shouldn't the club remove any hidden gem when it exceeds a certain number of members ? I mean the club probably added AoT when it had less than 20K members, but it's now at 330k which doesn't really seem hidden. |

Ultimate janken: A bunch of people with supernatural powers in a rock paper siccors tournament. Full of typical shounen fight explanation stuff done quite well. And unlike most shounen manga of that type it doesn't overstay its welcome, since it's just one tournament with 8 players. Warau kanoko-sama: Mostly episodic shoujo manga about a bit of a loner girl who does edgy commentary on her classmates and often ends up helping them somewhat with their troubles. The mc is really strong-willed and does not succumb to anything really. It's nice to have this no-nonsense attitude from the mc. Yet there are also some nice wholesome moments when she makes friends and stuff. (I recommend this as a stand alone series, the sequel isn't that bad but it's closer to a typical bland shoujo manga.) Boku wa mondai arimasen: A collection of short stories. Very surreal and a bit hit or miss but overall I thought it was really nice. Especially the last few chapters were great. Bokura no hentai: Great manga about a group of people who struggle with lgbt+ issues. |

Kieli: Shisha-tachi wa Kouya ni Nemuru Despite its short length, Kieli is a really remarkable manga. The plot is nothing special, but the characters are truly great. Within only 7 chapters, Kieli made me heavily invested in the characters, which is a quite difficult thing to do. I think it definitely deserves a spot on the club's relation list. |

Otaku no Musume-san (The Otaku's Daughter) It's the familiar premise of a man (in this case a doujinshi, anime-loving otaku) learning he has a daughter who has come to live with him and they must now learn to get along. The story is lighthearted and comedic, and it's heartwarming to see Kouta and Kanau grow as father and daughter. When Kanau is forced to choose between her father and mother you see the strength of their bond and that they now have something worth fighting for. The supporting cast also receives ample development as well. Also, if you get the Evangelion reference from just a few lines of dialogue before they actually drop the reference, you are an official otaku with a capital O. |
