Ten deducted that Ginji wasn’t marking all the tiles, rather only the 3’s and 7’s. To have control of those titles alone gives him a fast and deep understanding of the game while being difficult to detect. It lets him see far more possibilities than anyone else and as the golf analogy put it, he’s able to approach the hole from 50 cm away. They are dancing like Sun Wukong in the Buddha’s palm… But, of course Fukumoto would save a simile like that one for a bigger moment.

The end with Ten attacking his strategy was great. It felt like a declaration that he sees Ginji for what he is.

You know, lately I have had a hard time winning at Mahjong. I always thought I was rather good, at least for the level I was at. I somehow always gravitated towards a shanpon wait and have grown to like it. But after reading articles, power points presentations and even a book about mahjong theory, I have forced myself to "worship the ryanmen" as one author put it, and I can't help but feel like it made me a bit too predictable. People play around my waits effortlessly, and by only forcing this kind of wait pattern I am delaying my hand ever so slightly. It is true that those hands are still worth more usually, because of pinfu... but this chapter made me realize, that maybe it is not about following the most efficient path ALL the time, only most of the time.

Sorry for my rambling lol. I actually think this manga might be helpful to someone still learning how to play, even if it has some bullshit "flow" or godlike luck. Plus the cheating aspect is impossible to do over online clients, and morally wrong when playing in person :P But I think I just now realized that I need to find a way to incorporate these "pro strats" into my own style of mahjong. I need to balance defense, speed and pure "firepower" better.

Also, I really like this Ginji guy. His way of playing is interesting. But I can't wait to see Akagi again either!
