Well, Makoto took on an uneasy case this episode. It's not that the case itself is diffiult but the clients' requests doesn't suit his tastes.

I suppose when it comes to social issues, he'd bound to rund into some bad apples. Too bad it had to be this episode.

Ayyy nice Guo's back!

Another grounded episode but less focused on personal matters like the previous one. That Tsukamoto guy is pretty racist. With three episodes left, a three-episode arc could be good with that cliffhanger ending.

Looks like everything is connection now with us about to enter this final part of the anime. Going as far back as the first episode we saw with that drug operation. Made me happy to see Gou return from a few episodes back, I didn't want her to just be a one off character. Especially since Makoto mom adopted her. Getting back to more issues with foreigners in Japan. That group not wanting to let foreigners live in Ikebukuro over some irrational idea that they're humiliating the Japanese by coming there. When in fact these people just want to live a food life they don't have the opportunity for in their homeland. Its sad when you think about it, these people just went a better life and get harassed in the street over it. Those hate rallies are god awful.

Makoto having to get to the bottom of what's causing all this discourse particularly with that Ikebukuro Paradise building. Some good people there whom Gou had befriended being harassed themselves. Crazy how the whole thing was actually set up by they Beijing company land sharking property to expand their foothold in Ikebukuro. Using that hate rally group as a fall. Things for dicey at the end but likely Shadow made a badass return too helping out Makoto. Interested to see where things go now that Makoto and King have figured our this Kansai group is behind much that's been going on lately.

Damn, it all makes sense now. pretty chaotic episode, good that the anti-foreigners and the pro-foreigners organizations stepped up to stop the Tsukamoto team. Let's see how they deal with the kansai people...

Another case for Makoto, now its a realty issue, cover up the whole Ikebukuro Paradise building as their target. By using that group of demonstrant as their shield, they used every possible way; a fear, hatred, worriness, to forced the foreigner peoples to left the building and started a chaos. Lucky for Makoto, he found out a connection within every pieces of puzzle and led him into one people, before its get more complicated. Nice, he hired Shadow again to took that shit out without hesitations, and ended up the whole scheme within the two different side groups of demonstrant. However thhe last discussion from them, lifting something good. Everything connected with one solid organization that come up from the very first episode. They has been targetting them all the time!

Also, Guo looked very cute on these episode. Such a pleasant scenery to be remember. So i give this episode my thumb.

Apparently Kansai was behind all of this and they were keeping an eye on them. It wasn’t a big plot twist, it was easy to guess that they were still in the business and they already hinted about it at the end of the 1st episode.

The guy who’s keeping on eye on Makoto is most likely Isogai. It was an okay episode, just like the every other episode so far.

It's been a while since Guo was last seen so it was nice. Also between the tear-jerking drama in episodes 4,5, and 8, it is a nice return to going back to the action and ruining organizations that try to upset the balance and the atmosphere of Ikebukuro! Can't wait to see what's in store for us next!

I'm glad that this anime tackle immigrant discrimination topic even if not directly.

But sadly this episode someone died (offscreen), but is it confirmed that loan shark is the one who set fire?

All I see in this episodes is some plot appears and lots of meeting & conversation between Makoto and this guy, that guy, those guys, person #152 etc. 20 minutes reached, all of sudden it was concluded. This is just a usual case of bad adaptation; You can get away with certain things in a novel. When you have a visual media, you’re supposed to replace a lot of those words with visuals instead, but these show didn't manage to pull it off. As a result, I found this episode to be pretty boring.

This week we have Guo back after 4 long weeks. But she's not the main highlight of the episode as a Chinese firm tries to spread violence by framing immigrants in a redevelopment plan. It just seems normal now for Makoto to solve these problems with ease, along with the help of his connections.

But the underlying truth here is that the Kansai group was also behind in the operations this week...which means one more step and we're going to war. 3 more episodes and I think there'll also be an arc where G-Boys squares off with the Red Angels, that might possibly happen.

Whenever Shadow has screen time is looks insanely cool, to bad he doesn't get more.

An episode dealing with discrimination, boring but a good topic to choose.

OK episode :)

Guo is back, good to see her get more attention after being taken in as Makoto's sister.

Kinda funny how I was reading some articles about these kind of demonstrations in Japan and now this episode is centered around it.

Pretty ok episode, but atleast there's a connection to other events prior to today's episode. Shadow was awesome as usual!

It's a goddamn travesty how underrated this show is. The plot keeps thickening and, although a little late, it's beginning to establish a narrative arc. This episode really drove home the fact that the past episodes haven't been all completely unconnected one-offs, and I really liked that.

The best part of this is that Gou is back, she is so cute.

Jokes asides is was a nice episode, I think that actually there are a lot of people in Japan that do not like foreigners, so this was cool.

Very good episode, it's good to see Guo get some screentime. Give Chinese imouto more screentime, I like that she calls Makoto "Mako-bro".

I like the build up of this episode for what's to come in the next episodes, what role does Red Angels play in this conflict though, they are still very mysterious.

It's good to see Shadow kick some ass, in fact that job was too easy for him. Looking forward to the next episode.

I'm damn surprised that NO ONE ever thought that the anti-immigrant rally demonstrations are like the IRL Karens LOL, and Makoto is once again roped into the foreigners' mess, now backed by police and the G-Boys. (And sadly it's true in Japan that they don't take kindly to immigrants/foreigners, the irony...)

The culprits while hard to pinpoint, they do take swift action, and both the police and G-Boys (well, at least for Makoto) do have some challenge tracking them down. And while it does not take long for them to find that connection, Shadow appearing for Makoto's bidding is a sweet touch.

However, it immediately becomes apparent that the Kansai organization has been eyeing Ikebukuro since the very beginning, and what a roundabout approach to link the main case altogether.

What this episode does great is in its own storyline of marginalization, because the source material is SO dated that the scriptwriters have to innovate and keep the content as modern as they can, and this is a good alternative to displaying the manga's outdated content (which was kinda hit and miss these past 3/4 of the series).

@z00nex well, really have to agree, since all the connection so far is led back to Episode 1 and the foreshadowing.

Ep 9 PSA: Xenophobia. PSYCHE. Gentrification.

The adopted sister basically vanished from existence until this episode where her status as a Chinese immigrant is related to the plot. I thought having a new member in the family would be explored somewhat with Makoto but no... the writers only drag her out when it's related to the PSA of the week.

That little hint that the end that all the shit starting from the drug PSA in ep 1 is actually interconnected?? I will be so amazed if this show can pull together some semblance of a cohesive plot.

Honestly, it was being a rather boring episode until Shadow showed up. It was nice to see Guo again... though her re-appearing was only because her status as Chinese immigrant was relevant to the current narrative. Until this episode, she was pretty much non-existent.

Makoto's mom shows up constantly just to chat with his friends, despite the fact she's hardly ever relevant to the plot. We need little moments like that to show another side to the main character. Adoption is a big deal. This show should have incorporated Gou more into Makoto's casual home life - chilling alongside his mom or something. If feels like the writers didn't want to bother with her existence after she was adopted until this episode where it had something to do with Chinese immigration again. Now that she's literally a member of his family, she should be more than just a plot convenience.

This episode, I wont lie was a little confusing. Getting to know all the connections and the gang that was behind the acts of another gang and people are being attacked and controlled. Th Chinese and Japanese misunderstandings. Kansai organization having a close eye on Ikebukoro from the very beginning and all that. Absorbing all that was a little heavy.

Didn't expect Shadow to reappear and fight in broad daylight, probably because of his badassery but I really get hyped when I see him. I wish Guo would appear more often like Makoto's mom does rather than only in episodes where she's relevant to the plot.
