This anime just keeps getting good. I love the fight sequence with the CGI. The pacing is going. Can't wait until next episode to meet the rest of Dai's crew.

The episode was going well until the fight between Dai and the machine. The CGI in it was really bad for me and painful for the eye to follow. If the fights in this remake ended up being all CGI like this one, it will be a huge letdown for me. I definitely didn't enjoy the fight in this episode. The rest of it was good though, and I like the artwork.

Next few episodes will be the real start of the story from what I recall watching the original ad a kid.

Too childish for my taste, looks like it could be a great kids show though.

Good second episode, I liked it. The fight in CGI didn’t look bad, that’s nice.

I just love Toei. Since DBS Broly they changed so much, everything is better than ever, I hope that the remake will adapt fully the manga and that we're going for a 2 years and 100 episodes journey :')

Another simply solid episode.

Maybe I'll finally keep watching a long-running anime weekly for once!

This episode felt bland in terms of charm and content, but the animation wasnt too bad. Drawings feel cheap but the action in this episode had animation that definitely improved the enjoyment more for me. Still dig the OP weirdly enough.

Quite nice, the classic vibe makes this a lot of fun. Leona is cute.

CG fight was surprisingly decent.

I did enjoy the episode, but it felt so rushed... the bad guy is teleported directly into the Killing Machine, the princess' ritual was done in like 20 seconds... weird.
The animation is still above my expectations, though.

Damn another episode with rock solid production. The fight animation was seriously so well done. Plot was kinda childish again but still enjoyable nonetheless. Also Leona's a nice girl.

Not only were Hulu's subs fixed this episode, it also showed a lot more potential than the first imo, and I know it'll prob be a good time. Sorta reminds me of the early seasons of Adventure Time + battle shounen. Dai and Leona are really cute together too. The only thing is that I think the fight would've flowed better as fully 2d, but whatevs. Also wondering if the mech has any importance to the worldbuilding or not, but I guess we'll see. Looking forward to more!

The cgi is good but switching from traditional animation to cg in that way was pretty meh. Hope to see something more interesting next time, I like the art style and I don't want it to be too average or standard story wise

This anime is based on a manga that came out 31 years ago. And Dai is one of the trope codifiers of the yuusha archetype. Also, Dai is one of the 80s shounen heroes whose traits were what has became the sample for "average shounen protagonist".

If it feels standard, it's because of the fact that the manga is old and the later anime/manga that you're more familiar with were influenced by it.

Not gonna lie, this adaptation is the anime I wanted the last 25 years since I watched the first one.
The adaptation is perfect (and when I say perfect I really mean perfect) except one point. The music.
The new composer is great, but it's far from equaling themes from the first adaptation (which were reorchestrations of Dragon Quest video games themes). To me these themes are part of this manga itself, when I read the 38 volumes again I always have them in mind. I find the discussion or fight scenes really lacking impact and epicness without them. like these :

That's my only gripe. The rest is pretty much the anime I dream about since i'm a kid.

Same, withouth the ost it feels like it lacks something... Old series had that amazing music for all Moments , like when leona hime got out of the boat firts time she meet dai, that was something i remember alwyas

This anime is a story of a conventional hero, which is really rare these days. Dai is the chosen one. In this episode, there is a short 3D battle scene, which is quite well made.

Second episode, uh... is it just me, or does the pacing feel way faster (in a bad way) than it did in the 1991 anime? I know that for now, I'm effectively watching a revision of same anime that I just finished, but things feel like they're moving along waaayyy too quickly. Oh well, maybe the parts of this anime that are different (I mean, look at the episode count difference, there are gonna be new parts) are gonna be paced less like the opposite of a directors cut.

Both Popp's and Avan's seiyu sound great, almost indistinguishable from their 1991 counterparts. Still just an above average episode, again, not as good as the equivalent episode from the 1991 anime.

The pace will be 60 pages = 1 episode.
The 90's was slower and had a lot of filler and ambiance scenes.
We were shocked too when we saw this new pacing but after episode 25 ( and new stuff) you will understand it's a normal pacing.

I often go back and forth between watching a lot of old and new anime (Though I usually stick with old stuff), and it just surprises me how much more comfortable I am with the pacing in older anime. I'm still pretty hopeful that I'll like this anime, given how much I loved the older adaptation.

Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibouken, is a love letter to Akira Toriyama & Dragon Quest. Dai, Gomechan, Crocodine, etc. Function as if they're homage/parodies of well known dragon ball characters like Son Goku, Bulma & Kuririn. Only a few episodes in and the story seems to be picking up the pace by adding more members to the protagonist's team. And fighting strong monsters. Overall the latest Dragon Quest anime is a good tv series to watch for both Dragon Quest fans & newcomers alike.
