Not gonna lie, this is one of the animes that’ll never leave my mind and will make me continuously wish for more seasons and stories for. Until we meet again Deca-dence...

A very solid 8/10 for me.

It gave some decent twists here and there, but it was mostly "good old tropes done right". Nothing amazing, but a very solid story overall. I don't think it deserves a 10/10 or a 9/10 however.

i almost thought Deca-dence would become full mecha when Boss was gathering parts.
anyway, i liked it. for an original, they played it safe and went with telling stuff that they think was important...even if they end up ignoring some things that could help character development (the purple haired bitch and the more with the friend for example). either way, 12 is a almost perfect for this (had they left out some glaring stuff) and 24 wouldve dragged imo. surprised and somewhat glad Kurenai didnt get wasted especially with all the death flags that was planted around her. still sad about Pipe tho. 7/10

I see that a lot of people really enjoyed this series and rated it highly.

For me personally, it tried to do a lot of everything, which amounted to nothing.

With the resurrection of Kaburagi, there were even no consequences.

The whole admin and system plotline was very weak and they clearly made a roundabout with the crow and beep-bop-boop language to have less things to explain to the viewers.

Speaking of the crow, it flew off in episode 11 never to be seen again.

I didn't particularly grow fond of the characters, there was not a huge amount of depth given to them, but they only had 12 episodes and had to do a lot of world-building.

I've rated this a 6/10, expected it to be a lot better, but this anime is going to end up being forgotten in my list after some time.

Natsume visualizing the different kinds of Kabu cracks me up lol

I shed a tear when Kabu died and then again when I saw he was back. The show likes to play with my heart.

Kinda safe ending but I loved it! The only thing that I think it would have made it better was having good boy Pipe back.

Like many people, I was about to drop this on the 2nd episode because the whole avatar thing put me off, but I'm so SOOO glad that I didn't! This was a great show!

So before the final scene there was a card that was spelling "real stimulation adventure begins" was that like a season 2 confirmation or something?

It took me 12 episodes to realize that there are actual Humans in Deca-Dance. I thought all the humans were the freaking Cyborgs! WHAT??

Kabu my boy coming back at the end! though it is a clone so.

Overall a whatever series. I gave it an 8/10

And so it ends! A really nice ending for a good show, it was a predictable ending, there wasn't any room for big surprises, I didn't see Kaburagi dying though, that scene was hard to watch, but the last scene after the timeskip showed us what would be Kaburagi's return, so the sadness didn't last long.
What started interesting, had a unexpected plot twist, which I didn't like at first, but by the later episodes, by the climax of the anime, it showed us why that early plot-twist was done for.
One of the best ones this season, a strong 7.5/10 for me.

A good finale to a good show. Deca-dence was really a very unique anime worldbuilding wise and everything was fun to watch, even when things got predictable and cliche. Yuzuru Tachikawa is a very good director, I hope to see more of his original works in the future.

Overall 7/10

It was very good. Though I think Kaburagi didn't need to sacrifice himself as this caused 3 things I had a problem with.

1) Him beating the Gadoll fell under asspull category.
2) The sacrifice felt cheap as he just came back.
3) Who the fuck needs 3 years to remember you have something that can resurrect a dead friend successfully???. I mean if Cloud had it....

after awhile, the cyborg thing didn't bother me anymore, and it ended up being a very fun anime :D

Natsume is easily one of my favorite characters of the season (the main reason i kept watching), and ofc Kabu, Kurenai, Donatello and Jill were also interesting

it looked like a real end, i wonder if they plan on doing more, i would gladly watch some more , 8/10 :D

I couldn't say it any better myself, cause that's exactly the experience I had with Deca-Dence!

Kabu walking at the end seems strange, is he reincarnate as human shape robot instead of robot shape robot?

I guess thats cause he has not walked for 3 years.

Now this was disappointing - and confusing. I believed this shows had subtler points, but in the end all we got were shounen tropes. Even the initial discussions here about whether cyborgs were human or not ended up being irrelevant. And what's with all the plotholes? The only good part was when the system told Kabu he would die in any case and it would survive in any case. (Which proved wrong.)

Where did the old system disappear, for example? What about its mission? Why did the revolutionaries get the admin rights so easily?

The show didn’t really address the important difference between humans and cyborgs or its implications. Like the cyborgs’ longevity and spare bodies, their technology and their supposedly inhuman mental state vs the desperate postapocalyptic way humans live, the suffering and early death they experienced. The cyborgs didn't care about humans at all at first (they were NPC for them), so why did everyone become friends so easily and why did humans have to live under the rule of cyborgs in the end too? Why did humans not seem to care about being lied to, controlled and killed and about the weird ugly artificial organisms who did it? One of the main themes seemed to be living to the fullest, leaving an impact. But it didn’t reflect in anything besides Kabu persevering in the right moment.

What about the gadoll? What they were, why are they peaceful now? They were animal experiements too which is immoral and had to be answered for.

What about the artificial bodies and the digital immortality cyborgs have? Could it be extended to humans? Like why don't cyborgs improve the situation for humans with their tech? What will they do without oxyone? What's even their economy, in the end? Also maybe the cyborgs can be considered moe in some way but not to the extent the series tries to push it.

What did actually happen with space compression? Or the dome? The system said there was no life outside of it.

And it's the same with personalities. Take Minato. Initially he was shown as a very complex individual with his ups and downs – he had plenty of faults – so why was he suddenly in charge in the end? Being the “commander” in the game isn’t the same as running an actual society. He was dismissive towards humans too during the whole series. And there had been a lot of gay shipping between him and Kabu, yet they were too chicken to use the fact that in the end he basically controlled what had become Kabu's body. The way they showed operating Decadance from within sure was lame.
And Natsume didn't evolve past a quirky inspiration.

Basically the characters simply maintaned the status quo, and the fact that the good outcome was an endless fun fair is almost offensive. Though they showed that Natsume was tired from her service job in an unusually life-like moment in the epilogue, while all the others were happy performing in a circus for some reason.

...This ending felt like a placeholder, in short. It was very immature and rushed. Or maybe the beginning was misleading. I expected more from the juxtaposition of the two worlds, of Mr.Dob-like cyborg aesthetic and their tiring entertainment corporate dystopia, of the humans' role and legacy in all of it.
Wtf? Seriously.

I truly loved this anime from start to finish. Feel the second half was superb and the ending was great by wrapping everything up. The pipe plushie/keychain end was very well done.

The ending honestly had me mark it up to a 9 and I feel many people that dropped it early on (after the episode 2 twist) should definitely pick it back up.

Overall, fairly meta-anime that while at first, I did not like the gears/gadoll route, it really grew on me as the show progressed. Natsume and Kabu are probably my favorite protagonists of the season, if not the year.

10/10 would recommend for people to watch!

Grand finale!

This episode was really good. Entirely, this anime was well made with great pacing and some really beautiful cuts. The direction worked amazingly steady for a one cour original project.

Not a masterpiece, but a solid 8 nonetheless. Great job, Nut Studios!

Also, probably the best opening of this season.

They wrapped it up nicely, I wasn't expecting an ending like that. It's cool to see the cyborgs and humans living together, a new system, and the old Deca-Dence being turned into something like a theme park. I'm glad Kaburagi is back and Nateume got to see him again.

It was one heck of a ride. Kaburagi finally unleashed the limiter to defeat the Gadoll. Deca-dence City looking good after 3 years. At least, the Gadolls that remained are much more lovable and not harmful to humans. Still rip for Pipe tho.

Natsume finally reuniting with Kaburagi was lukewarm. It was a good job for the animation studio not seeing his face.

Good anime, but it can definitely do better. 8/10

well that was a decent final ep I guess. At least Kaburagi died the hero....well before he was brought back at the end but whatevs.

Overall.......eh. I did love the series in the beginning, but it just became way too shounen-y if that makes sense as it went on. Went from being a neat story about deceiving and rebellion to one about nakama's and going beyond your limits.

Characters were ok I guess. Natsume kinda felt quite annoying as the series progressed and Kaburagi was no better. Minato though I actually really liked his character.

Imagine forgetting about such an important backup for three years lol. But anyway pretty good anime. I'd say the twist in episode 2 turned out pretty good in the end. Probably would have been less interesting if it went a more traditional route. So I guess the system was basically like a super advanced self learning AI, so if you change the norms to not be giant monsters attacking ppl and making an mmo out of it you can have peace.

What a fantastic end to an overall fun and creative anime with a lot of heart. That last battle was exhilarating. I was kind of expecting Kaburagi to be gone for good, but I'm glad they brought him back, which makes sense considering he's a cyborg and can be backed up like Jill did.

I do wish they gave a little more characterization to the supporting characters, especially Kurenai, but the strength of Natsume and Kaburagi as characters more than made up for that.

I love how they kind of did a reverse trope on the "main character cuts hair to show self-growth" thing with Natsume's hair being longer at the end (she looks really good with longer hair ngl). The end with Kaburagi walking towards her and her face when she realized who it was brought a tear to my eye.

The only thing I'm wondering is how there are still Gadoll if they destroyed the facility that makes them? The cyborgs obviously need them to survive, so did they find another way to produce them? Or breed them naturally? Also what happened to the "system"? Did it get destroyed with Deca-Dence?
Either way, it was really nice to see the people rebuilding, making a city from the wreckage, and co-existing with the cyborgs and Gadoll as well.

This has been one of the most fun and original anime I've seen come out in a while. I hope we get to see more like this, and personally I'd love to see a bit more from this world. Even an OVA would be nice, but I'm not expecting it.
I hope this anime did well so we can get lots of cool merch from it as well. I'd buy up a cool Natsume figure in a heartbeat.

Good show, ending was all right but definitely rushed. Just needed 1 more episode so they could have 1 full episode for preparation for final fight with some more action and a bit more emotional moments and 1 last for the ending developing the system actualization concept and the new life for bots and humans would have been better IMO. Or a 1 hour episode.

8/10 overall for the show

Natsume is a lovely character.

I was hoping for a 2nd season but oh well.. still, I've been thinking for a word for a few minutes to describe the ending the best but I know I suck with words, I think I'll just say it was a pretty good ending, one of the best I've seen in a while. But hey, what if the new system got out of control?! huehuehuehuehue SEASON 2 NOW!!!

while the ending arc was on the cilche side of things that's fine i'm totally happy with a coexistence happy ending even if i was expecting more of a bittersweet one it was still very satisfying in it's own way solid 8/10 for being so burned on pass anime originals getting one that manages to come out as one of the better shows this year is a lovely thing
