Well the dragon did his thing. This seems to be a straight adaptation of the game, even the village is the same as the one our main character started in.

Never played the game, solid start, that dragon's a dick and certainly earned the MC's Wrath.

“I just spent the last two years thinking that you guys knew more than me about life and I just found out that you guys are just as dumb as me.” “Duh-doy.” “Yeah, duh-doy.”

I love the game. Easily an underrated gem. This first episode was a straight adaptation. Unfortunately, the presentation of some deaths aimed for pure shock value, a problem similar to that of Japan Sinks. The captain of the guard mysteriously survived face to face with the beast to moments later die in a silly way. That was stupid, and the dragon looks awful.

Despite these problems, I appreciate the setting, and it was decent overall. Here's hoping it gets better.

How so? It's fairly popular, sold well, received favourable press across the board boasting ~80% from critics, and almost ~90% from players, and got an anime. It's anything but underrated. And yeah, I really like it as well. Shame that the first episode doesn't bode well for what's next... *sigh* I'll give another one or two eps a whirl though.

It is not as well-known compared to other Action RPGs released in the last decade, such as Skyrim, Dark Souls, and The Witcher 3. And at the time, despite the sales success, Capcom stated that the numbers in the West were subpar compared to Japan.

In recent years, with the re-releases, Dragon's Dogma has indeed gained more recognition. Let's hope Itsuno is making the sequel right now.

Dragon's Dogma is not my example of a game that "sold well" or else it would've had a sequel in the past decade.

It sold very well in Japan, hence DD Online.

Lost Planet 2 sold less, yet it had a sequel nobody asked Capcom for.

Also, don't forget Deep Down!

I think it has potential so far and the CGI is done so much better than Berserk 2016 and 2017.
My criticisms:
-the dream scene in the beginning is unnecessary.
-the dialogue is dull.
-there isn't enough attachment to the wife character.
-I think they didn't need the boy character Louis. I think spending more minutes on dialogue between the protagonist and his wife would have been better.
-I think the captain character was unnecessary. His screen time was so short that there was no reason for him to have a dialogue with the protagonist.
-I know this is a show about a dragon attacking a village, so I really didn't need the "no dragon has attacked in a 100 years" speech lol to emphasize the safety of the village.
-I really wish the village was more like a village instead of looking like some modern gated community. There are no animals, farms, gardens, wells, mills, workshops, market, church, bakery, barn, and other details like that. It feels too bland so I don't have any emotion to seeing it in ruins.

Welp this was a brutal premise. Louis was eaten alive, Olivia was burnt to death and Ethan's heart was eaten, everyone else died. Damn what a disaster.

I like the character designs, CGI and animation was pretty decent.

The moment a wolf appeared, i knew that creators of the anime got what Dragon's Dogma is all about just right. Though i expected Ethan to warn the kid about them hunting in packs, it could have been such a great reference.

Also disappointed that opening is Netflix's usual abstract sequence with boring music. It could have been so good if they used the original game's title screen music. "The wind is pushing meee~"

Oh, and the CG is utter garbage.

It's always awesome when a video game I'm very familiar with gets an anime adaptation. First God Eater and now this. I'm about to finish Ni No Kuni 2 and then I'll watch the movie though I think it's based on the first game which I haven't played yet. Anyway, I'm not really an expert with this IP, I've only played Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen on ps4, which was really good. Story was kinda meh but the pawn system was really unique. I'm not sure how this is going to be similar with that but from the start I can see one evident similarity, the dragon's face is fugly. Seriously, I can't even draw but I bet I can draw a dragon's face more badass and intimidating than that.

Was anybody else thinking of the game of thrones episode with Daenerys roasting the city?

Also, it could just be the animation, and I know it's following the video game story, but I can't help but think of Berserk and then be disappointed I'm not watching Berserk

I am really unsure if it’s just the “people” that work for Netflix just have no clue about what Anime to pick it if they infect with mediocrity but damn 7 minutes of boredom.

I was a bit worried that the kid would become a companion, if he had become one I would immediately dropped the serie.

Originality doesn't always make something good but I see your point.

Haven't played the game but this lookslike its going to be an interesting dark fantasy despite it not being too original. Really expected Louis to survive but surprised he actually got swooped up and eaten by the dragon.

Heck I pick this at random choice at Netflix. It's...watchable.
"The future is always blank. Only your willpower can leave footsteps there."

"Ruling over death means ruling over life. Death is the climax of life. To have the best death, you must honor life."

Not too different from the game so far, aside from the main character already having a beloved, kids and being able to speak.
