Welp, Rikuo is really getting into the passion of his work.

Dunno how I feel about Morita but her character may also be worth an eye to keep on. This show and episode continues to address the reality of relationships and I'm actually satisfied with the pacing. Uneasy feelings this episode though among the characters.

What I love most about this manga/show and what makes it hit is that the characters do stupid shit. But it’s realistic stupid shit that shows how contradictory and irrational humans can be. People just do stupid shit.

We’ve all had moments where problems could be solved if we just communicated better, followed through on what we wanted, were more direct, etc.

Rikuo is right outside Shinako’s place and has the opportunity to go inside, but runs away in fear. The two of them then don’t call each other to actually talk about things for weeks after. Simple solution for a simple issue

Haru took that friend zone like a champ 😔 she deserves much better than Uozumi. Great episode as always, enjoyed the direction and use of silence during tense moments. DG are doing an amazing job bringing this to life.

I can feel a lot of regret building up. And in the end someone is going to get hurt and everyone is going to have to settle with the results.

I feel like Haru's efforts are going to waste on Riko but I still have hope for her. Since Riko Feels like he has been rejected as well.

This show is becoming suffocating to the point of chaos. I know Riko is doing his best to get a good job but he is still neglecting Many other things in life.

Behold of my awesomeness~
controversial and/or sensitive topics likely devolve into the same repetitive, derogatory, abusive, and harassing comments can no longer be posted.

Possibly my favourite episode of the series so far!

Haru's finally friend-zoned now. It's a pity but it's been coming for a while, sadly. Can't blame Uozomi for doing that, dragging this on will only make it harder to reveal and more painful to accept after all.

Normally, I'd to supporting characters like Haru but I just can't help but be more invested into Shinako's character, just as this episode proved. Maybe, the tides will change once we dive deeper into Haru's character though.

Nearly half-way through now and Doga Koba's still doing fabulous work, here's to hoping the next episode and the second half will be just as good!

Damn after that cliffhanger from last episode nothing happened at all. Shinako backed down at the last moment sigh, not that I was expecting anything to happen.

Ouch that last part was rough. I know Rikuo's trying to distance himself from Haru cause he doesn't see her as a love interest and he's proly thinking for her too but it still hurt to watch Haru like that.

This episode's very nice. This is more what I expect as to how the anime should be. I hope that this'll continue on.

I love how awkward the conversations are and the great usage of silence which makes it even more awkward. It's rare to see something like that in anime that seems so natural.

Now we blatantly know Rikuo's indecisiveness stems from the fact he is very insecure of himself, and that he holds Shinako in a very high regard. Meanwhile, Shinako's indecisiveness stems from her inability to perceive and reciprocate "love" (or her definition of it) because of her past experience, making a very brutal stalemate between her and Rikuo.

While Rikuo scolding Haru is quite mean even if she put a lot of effort into him, it was probably for the best. Rikuo's too occupied with his job even with Haru out of the equation. I think he's more or less afraid that he'd be stressing out as how to repay Haru, when she's quite literally sacrificing herself for him to the point that it's dangerous.

The episode ended too fast-- let us commence the long wait again.

Shinako going back to Rou's appartment and making him food... (as a cliffhanger) What are we supposed to interpret ? That she wants to forgive Rou's behaviour and move on ? That she has decided to be more proactive ?

It seems like she has given up on Rikuo. I mean all dialogues in this episode point to that direction.

I feel like Haru should let go of Rikuo. There's been no indication so far that he has romantic feelings for her and to be honest, she deserves someone who's more on her wavelength. Haru and Rikuo's situation is different to Shinako & Rou because the latter two have a complicated past together, one that makes it harder for Rou to get over her.

It really annoyed me when Morita told Shinako to 'just date' Rikuo... it's not that frickin' simple!

Well that was a disappointing episode, for me personally, in terms of Rikuo X Shinako. However; at the same time it adds more layers to the story, and has created more tension, which I LOVE. Poor Haru-chan, god I feel for her I really do. She will probably carry on trying though, as much as she shouldn't. :(

So Shinako ended up not inviting Rikuo to her home.
She and Rikuo have good friends that they can always talk to.

Yeah, I too feel for Haru. She deserves someone better.

I really, really want to slap Rikuo and Shinako. Haru's younger than both of them but seems to be the only one that really knows what she wants. I guess in some ways teenagers are less afraid of love eh?

someone please help poor Shinako, seemed to be struggling to open her door as of late

but seriously, gotta feel bad for Haru, she's pretty much in a no contest situation. Like Rikuo only has eyes for Shinako (although it seems like he's slightly in denial now) and Shinako is definitely beginning to feel the same way, even going as far as using Haru's lines without credit goddamn plagiarizer

although Haru does have first girl rep. so that already boosts her chances

Shinako makes it look like she has given up on Rikuo at this time and Haru got friend-zoned in this episode but she deserves better.

I like how they used silence to build tension about if Rikuo was going to go into her apartment or not. They used it in other parts of the episode too.

Yesterday wo Utatte is realistic in the fact that sometimes when people are talking to one another, they don't end up getting out what they mean to say, and then they don't talk to each other for a while. People are always like this though where they weren't more direct about how they were feeling.

Great episode by Doga Kobo this week. Saturday is just the best day of the week with this, Villainess, Kaguya-sama, and also Arte.

I stressed myself well enough already with the previous episodes discussing with Shinako's haters. I'll try to ignore and keep away from discussions this time.

I just have to comment, for now, about the scene at the end.
Do the people on this production really hates Haru? Because sometimes the anime gives the feeling that they're going beyond the call of duty to portray Haru's suffering.
Of course, it's in the standard set by the production since the beginning, but with thinking like the new ending... This scene was REALLY hard to watch.

That 2nd ED has really grown on me after I gave it some individual listens on its own. I already loved the creativity with the visuals so now to say I'm fully on board with it is good.

Overall, it was okay. Kind of slow to get through but fairly decent nonetheless with being a small part to a big puzzle that's this story. I've been liking Shinako more than Haru these past few weeks with the anime adaptation although I still feel both are solid.

Ok, I was always slightly more in favor of Shinako over Haru and I've been patient with her but...I just can't root for her anymore. I've gotten a bit tired and frustrated of her indecisiveness. She actually had the nerve to tell Rikuo she wished was he was as pushy as Rou. Like, what does she want from a guy she already rejected and has not given any indication that she likes him? She first tells him to come inside then tells him nah actually on a second thought, I don't want you in my place after all, sorry. Imagine if a girl you liked did that to you irl after she already rejected you. Rikuo only did the natural thing to walk away, it would've been very awkward on his part to still insist on coming in. Shinako didn't care about how Rikuo would feel, she only cared about her own feelings about how she wasn't comfortable with him coming in. Like her friend implied, she's still hasn't moved on from her old love. That's fine, I get it. Losing a loved one can be pretty hard but as a result Shinako's character right now is just self-absorbed and insensitive. Shinako's too good for him? I think Rikuo's too good for her right now. Even Rou who's busting his ass off just to be with her is too good for her right now.

At this point, the best way to salvage this mess for me would be if Shinako does decide she's serious about Rikou and becomes more decisive. She makes the move on Rikuo instead of waiting for him to to make it and clears the air with him. If not, then she'll at least have Rou. He'll be as pushy with her as she wants. They'll be a happy couple together...as long as she doesn't start comparing him to his older brother again. If she doesn't end up with Rou either then she'll probably become a lonely woman full of regrets...which would probably be deserved as the person she is atm, harsh as it is. But hey, at least she'll still be able to take comfort in the memories of her old love.

As for Haru, Rikuo will be better off with her. I feel sorry for her though and I want to give shit to Rikuo but I can't completely blame him. At the end of the day, she's just a random girl that appeared in his life, told him she loved him out of nowhere and hopes he will love her back. It's always been one-sided. I do hope though that Rikuo will eventually come to reciprocate her feelings. Wouldn't be nice to see this end with Haru in tears. I'm definitely rooting for her now though.

Reaally hope that there won't be any real issues for the main protagonist because of Hayakawa Rou. It would only mean that Shinako is way too conflicted with her own feelings to do anything except mess with other ppls lives... and that kind of character isn't worth anything ;)

Rikuo decides to drive Haru away from him in the least painful way possible.
He only feels friendship towards her and wouldn't have been right to continue to delude her.

Shinako the eternal undecided, she doesn't even know what she really wants, what is certain is in her mind there is always Yuu, but she can't behave in this way with Rikuo, the opening scene is really too much.

One more week and one more chapter of my favorite of the season: Yesterday wo Utatte. Ahh, this makes me very happy !!

First of all ... what episode today, little drama but I think that with a lot of background intensity, Shinako and Uozumi seem to take steps towards something and that ... the truth is I do not know if I like it very much.

On the other hand, Uozumi begins to gain more self-confidence.

But most importantly: How could Uozumi treat Haru like that !?
Haru should be protected at all costs !!!
(Ok, I'm wandering)

Great episode (like all the previous ones) although a little calmer.
To wait for the next week and another episode!

Fucking hell Shinako you just made me root more for Haru with this episode

I understand Shinako perfectly well but blue balling my guy like that is just a horrible thing to do. Poor Uozumi just takes it like that and walks away

But then, of course, he had to go and hurt Haru like that

But it wasn't a bad episode. This anime/manga is all about realism when it comes to human relationships so even though we might get irritated by their decisions, at the end of the day that's the point with the show.

This segment where Rikuo indirectly rejects Haru was hard to watch. Now, I'm not going to say he's being an asshole since it's her, who's bothering with his life all the time. But yeah, it was painful from her side as she always keep moving forward despite getting dejected on every attempt. Honestly, she deserves someone better.
And then we have Shinako here who can't make her mind and put no worthwhile effort to move forward in her life. I understand her stance, but still you gotta move on at one point in life. The sooner, the better. Or else the memories will keep haunting her until finally she decides to take an action. You can only hope it's not too late by then.

Interesting episode once again!

Shinako is really getting a bit too indecisive for my taste, first invite Rikuo over to come into her apartment but then changing your mind at your doorstep. As much as I like her, this can't be done too many more times. Glad to see that near the end of the episode, the awkwardness was a lot less, but Shinako is again at Rou's place. In all honesty, that boy is doing her no good at all at this rate.

Haru on the other hand, she's very persistent when it comes to meeting up with Rikuo at the craziest at times, I can for a moment think it's annoying in a way, but she atleast cares for Rikuo, there was really no need to be so harsh against the girl.

Overall a great episode, a little bit of drama here and there, but the conversation between Shinako/Rikuo and their friends were pretty sweet! They actually have some great advice for them!

I must say I really respected Rikuo for just walking away when Shinako changed her mind. If a woman says no, it really means no. For that reason, I disliked Rikuo's friend since his advice was to be pushy in that situation. Shinako's friend seemed fine, especially her calling Shinako out on just doing nothing. Just doing nothing solves very few problems.

I really feel bad for Haru. Shinako steals her line to cheer up Rikuo, then she gets kindly reminded that Rikuo just isn't interested. No matter how much you are expecting it, hearing that always hurts. It hurts more when you've been acting pretty reasonably like Haru has, not being overly pushy, just trying to maintain a friendship so that there is a chance for future progress.

At this point, as much of a sucker for romance as I am in most cases, I really hope none of them end up together in this show, and just use this as a learning experience for future relationships.
Life lessons: Don’t try to push yourself on someone who’s not interested, or waste your time pining after them either, and don’t keep someone dangling on a string because you’re simply afraid you’ll be alone if you let them go.

This series has been enjoyable, but I really wish it would pick up the pace already. I appreciate what the characters have to go through, but at this point it feels they're going around in circles for a little too long. I almost feel like picking up the manga to avoid the wait... except for the wrong reasons.

It's also a bit unusual that most episodes seem to end randomly with no rhyme or reason. "Looks like we've reached this week's time limit, let's just add the ED at this point because it needs to end somewhere". That gives the impression the story doesn't quite know where it's headed.

For instance, this episode could have been wrapped up with the scene Rikuo and Haru parted ways. That would have been more impactful than the final scene with Rou. This was like hearing a joke that went on after the punchline.

This show is too good. It's only 8 eps and I'm attached to characters as if they were real people. The sad thing is characters usually don't do bad things, most of their decisions aren't black or white, good or evil easy to judge, they act like real human beings and I can't blame Rikuo for what he did to (best waifu) Haru. Even through it hurts, sometimes you have to be egotistical to find happyness in life and this episode perfectly shows it.

Can't wait for next episodes, I bet I'll cry soon on this show.

wow ok kinda relived they didn't go further then the front door, would of been a big yikes from me.
ahhhh as much as it pains me to say this, i do think that scene with Shinako more or less helped Rikuo out in him finding the confidence to continue his job at the studio and become a full time worker. But don't get me wrong that was literally a 1 in about 50 scenes of Rikuo and Shinako together that didn't involve weird signals from one party, one party talking about a past relationship, one party reminding the other they are just friends or one party complaing to the other looking for words of comfort.
Also can't really blame Rikuo for dropping Haru this time around, like the dude is finally going somewhere in life with a stable job and income and although i would love to see him and Haru in probably the healthiest relationship in this anime, the dude put thought into his decision and it no doubt hurt him too but if anything it was for Haru's benefit and safety. (also it kinda also looked like she was forcing herself to meet him every night but thats just me)

Shinako is honestly a terrible person. The type that doesn't waste a single second to think about anyone else's feelings or what her actions do to others. I've always disliked her, but in these last two episodes, it's been especially frustrating to watch her. The audacity to pull the things she's chosen to do and say, actually unbelievable. I really, really can't stand her, haha.
I'd genuinely hate to see Rikuo end up with her, he deserves so much better. Doesn't even have to be Haru- if he doesn't have feelings for her, that's absolutely fair. Just... please don't let him end up with Shinako...

And I just have to add, even though I can fully respect Rikuo's decision to reject Haru, it still made me feel so bad. For both of them, as Rikuo seemed pained by the situation too- but especially poor Haru. :^(

This episode is quite annoying because of their irrational decisions. Like, nande? Nande? NANDE?!! But, I like it because it actually mirrors reality. I was actually expecting that Rikuo will be pushier. He can actually have that second chance. Go to Shinako's place without invitation and give thise printed photos! I guess Rikuo decided too be more devoted to Shinako since he finally frienzoned Haru.

But, why did Shinako cooked too much? Did she do just because she wanted to see Rou? Shinako! Make up your mind! Listen to Morita-sensei! Just go out with Rikuo!

I'm trying hard to like this but each week it gets tougher. Everyone but Shinako has put themselves out there. She's a long way from knowing herself and being trustworthy. Rou is young and a long way from anything also. Rikuo is old enough to know better but is as self-involved as Shinako and clueless, if not rude. Haru is best girl. Although a bit too eager, she has the best attitude and maturity. Hope she ends up with Kino...lol

This episode was torture to watch in all honesty. Realising that Rikuo actually did essentially ask Haru to get lost and stop coming to see her again was just... abit too painful to watch. Rikuo doesn't realise that he's essentially just a pawn in Shinako's game of escapism and every time she shows just a bit of affection its 100% for Rikuo again - she knows that and is using that to keep both Rou and Rikuo in her loop so she will never feel alone. That is very unfair but also really really realistic. People do that all the time and I feel so much for the characters. Combined with the ED just gives me more of a heartache for Haru, unrequited love... big pain, overall this episode was very frustrating

Shinako's ready to move on...not just yet, really feeling her heart pangs about letting go of the feelings of the deceased Yuu and settling Rikuo in as a "replacement", plus the feelings of Rou not reciprocated yet. All that for a comparison of love to see who is "worthy" of her love, both past and present. And Haru...as stuck-up as she is, her will to wait for Rikuo as lenient has her unbound love for him.

Can understand from Rikuo's POV that his new converted full-time job is the only essential in his life, and that is evidenced by trying to get his mind off of love and romance, a fully pure concentration of going on with life as intended.

The whole time I'm thinking: "Will these 2 (Rikuo and Shinako) get together?" but it immediately dawned on me that as simple as love can be, romance itself is another story altogether, the heartaches and all. It's really not an easy decision of just saying "yes", but the considerations are very humane that's full of frustrations conceived, and it totally felt relatable.

To Haru though, Rikuo being avoidant of the subjects of her advancements towards him, all that felt like a slap to the face in the same way that he rejected her outright.

A slow-burner of an episode, but it really brings out the flaws of wanting to make a move forward, and it was done well. Looking forward to more episodes.

My Heart fucking shattered at the end of this episode. God dammit the realism in this anime is fucking perfect.

Rikuo is such a nice guy understanding Shinako in the beginning. It was nice to see him focus on his career for a little bit as well.
The montage was done really well. You got to see Haru seeing the improvements of Rikup along with Shinakos struggles.

Rikuo has a lot of support from his friends.

God damn that vending machine scene though. The worst part was that they both knew. Haru knows that Rikuo loves Shinako and that Shinako is starting to come around towards Rikuo. The worst part is that Rikuo fucking knows that Haru knows all of this. Like for him to say "You don't have to wait for me." Like damn. It does not make him an asshole. It was more like "Hey we both know what is coming. I do not want to hurt you anymore."

Also we all need to realize that TWO people got rejected in this episode. Rou seeing Shinako with a Tupperware of food is going to be clear to him that she is bringing it for Rikuo.

Sort of me wishes this episode happened last week instead so we can see Shinako start to develop feelings towards Rikuo like she did in this episode and not feelings of just filling the void in her heart.

Again like I said the realism in this anime is amazing and I am loving the development.

I think they way they captured Haru here was perfect. You as the viewer do not know whether or not she is crying which makes the impact of the "Rejection" greater.

Think that's just a normal, white ceramic bowl. While, honest to god, I don't want to see any Rou x Shinako right now, I think she just wants to reconcile with Rou (hopefully not romantically, else I'd flip) because it's been a while since she was avoiding him from 'that' incident.

Although how much time she spent waiting for Rou just cooking to pass time and makes me question her sanity; that short scene from Shinako seems like escapism and trying to relive her memory of taking care of the late older brother, but instead it's Rou. But hopefully not because it's another problem from an already problematic cast. Let's expect that it won't come to that, and its just a wholesome, "I'm sorry for disappearing." meal from elder sister to younger brother, without any complications whatsoever.
