| THIS IS A MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER. ---------------------------------------- This felt like old times. Akagi challenged the hesitant Hiroyuki to a game, and Hiroyuki froze. He logically did the numbers, just as his logic may have held him back these years. Akagi took it as a chance to give Hiroyuki a lesson. The bold challenge was a 1/153 gamble of drawing tiles, of which a win would save Akagi’s life and a loss would be the cost of an arm. However, he gave some advice, to not even consider the possibility of losing, rather just bet on winning, “when you lose just go back on your word”. It was to highlight the smarts Hiroyuki lacks, possibly the same lacking smarts which prevented him from cheating when it came to Ten’s test to see if he could join the east west battle. Akagi stated that being serious is a bad habit, something that tangles one up when they should loosen up instead and be flexible. To think it has to go as planned is a bad habit. This makes me think again of the writing device that is mahjong. Life doesn’t go as planned and neither does the game, so following the logic that it does is going to set you up for failure. It makes you wonder how Akagi would approach this issue if he was the one trying to save himself, say if that example made any sense. If there were two Akagi’s sitting across from each other, what would he do? |
