I will be honest. Nekopara anime feels like a chore to watch. It feels like a one big filler. What exactly was their plan with this ? It's not like the VN. Don't get me wrong, its cute, but feels like something a 13 year old would like to watch. I was expecting them to animate the VN( not the 18+ version ofcourse ). Did they say anything what their plans were for this adaptation ? I missed that crucial info.

Same here, it's like a cheap imitation of the comedy of Sewayaki Kitsune no Senko-san and the slice of life of Love Live! Dumb move Sayori.

I think you lack English understanding. I said I knew they won't animate 18+ version of LN. I expected at least to follow LN story. This feels like a filler. Hope that clears it up for you.

I disagree completely. If anything this is better than the visual novel story because the VN story is boring. This is way better than the original story.

I'm kinda disappointed when I learn there is a version of Nekopara that +18 but still anime version is really good for lovers of slice of life / iyeshikai genre. A bit better for me than Sewayaki Kitsune no Senko-san for example <3

If it wasn't for the harem, the romance and the +18 content (stuff you see in the games but not in the anime) Nekopara wouldn't have gotten a quarter of the success they've achieved up to this point, believe me.

It's a Slice-of-Life anime

this type of genre can literally be anything they wanted it to be.

especially since this series is meant to be mainly Moe catgirls. So of course they'll just go with "cute girls doing cute things, just with cat girls" instead of following the actual source, which is Ecchi/ Hentai...

If you want yuri, just play the games. There is a lot of lesbic action in them, especially in Vol. 3. Concerning the anime you won't find anything interesting in it, not even "heterosexual harem" as you said. It's nothing but another mere and plain Slice-of-Life TV show.

You say it's slice-of-life but the genres include "Comedy" and "Romance" only. Meanwhile there is no romance whatsoever but I definitely felt the Slice-of-life aspect to it. Ended up dropping it because it was too boring for me.

Seems like a lot of folks had different expectations. However, that doesn't make the anime bad. People's expectations were bad. Get over it.
For a slice of life - comedy which this is, it's superb.

You can't blame us for having high expectations. How would you feel if it was announced a TV show based on a game/novel you have been supporting and following for several years and find out that they changed the whole plot and altered every character in it, even the protagonist. This anime is the living proof that is not a good idea to turn a rom-com/harem VN into a slice-of-life/comedy anime. In fact you are right, this doesn't make the anime bad, just mediocre at any rate.

Kestisan, what happened to you? Why are you saying something that I can't feel angry at? Why are you... saying something (for the most part that is, heh) relatively reasonable in a completely civil manner?

Especially the last sentence. I can't believe this is happening.

So it became mediocre, since it's no longer a rom-com harem but a cute and wholesome SoL comedy? I would question my sanity if I ever came up with a thought like that.
I'll give you that the mc became irrelevant and there was not much of a plot which is a demerit. That's not a new thing for the SoL genre though so the end product while different from the VNs, is still great on its own for a 12 ep show.

You just can't understand the frustration of the followers of the VNs because you have nothing to compare the anime with. I would rather question my sense of empathy if I were you. I bet you haven't played even one of the games yet, In fact you could even be new to the slice-of-life/comedy anime world since I can think of a lot of shows much better than this one. Follow my advise new blood, play/watch the games, then talk.

Again with you proclaiming "superiority" over those with less experience than you?

By your logic, nobody should express their opinion about the anime unless they played all the VNs. There would be barely any discussion about the actual content of the anime then, as a majority have not played the VN. Is that what you want to happen?

Also, falling back to the same arguments over and over again implies that without them, you have merits to stand on.

And to think, you accused me of repeating arguments while you do the same? Mmm, sweet hypocrisy.

Is it just me or are you always waiting for a chance to argue the rub with me? What bittersweet relation we have between us. Still can't bring myself to dislike you for some reason, interesting right?

Here is a list for you and you only comrade:

1.- I thought I said this before, but I'm not claiming superiority, I'm just tired of people discussing a specific topic as if they were on equal ground when they are not as conscious of the facts as they could be. If you want to talk serious about something, first make sure to collect all the intel you can, in this case, if you want to talk aboout nekopara, would it kill you to play the bloody VNs first? That was the anime's main purpose to begin with. It's not my fault that I have more experience than you. This is a basic rule for every debate encounter. How many times do I have to spell that for you? Jeez!

2.- "Falling back to the same arguments", what do you mean by that? Why are you speaking as if you were part of the discussion between Gildesh and me. I was talking to him, not you. You said your piece, I said mine and that was it, we finished not with a total agreement, but on good terms nonetheless. However, if a come across to someone else stating something I find wrong, then I'd probably respond to him, just like you. Are you going to condemn me for that? Speaking about hypocrisy mate.

3.- I've never accused you of repeating arguments. Don't tell me that calling others "haters" and playing victim are considered arguments where you come from. Those are details you need to change. Nobody is attacking you, and I hate when people like you say things like "Nobody would miss Kashou if he just disappeared". Well, he kind of did that in the anime and see what happened, everything screwed up. This time you are the one forcing me to repeat myself.

*Sigh* Every time we are like this, I get the feeling I'm missing something somewhere, you're probably going throuhg the same, otherwise nevermind what I just said. Wanna go for a coffee. I'm buying.

I'm glad you realise this too. You're right - I do enjoy internet arguments in a sense. It allows us to express our views and read up on each others' opinions, and thus have a better understanding of both sides.

Although it might have looked like I'm being hostile and attacking you, it's just the part of me needing to put up an argument; there is no real malice behind it.

Of course. There is nothing wrong with that. I'm aware that I'm acting in a manner similar to my oppositions at times, but I'm only doing this to counter how unreasonable some people act in an argument. I always aim to treat someone in accordance with how they treat others.

I honestly wish the discussion could stay as civil as possible, but after seeing what happened before in this thread, I know it isn't going to happen.

As I said before, people preying on those lesser than them is also one thing I cannot stand. Although you, understandably, might not think this is what you are doing - other people NOT in the argument that are simply reading them can perceive your words as such. Are you really a good guy if you constantly tell them how much they suck?

This injustice is something I sought to fight against. To be honest, I wouldn't have a reason to argue with you if you've simply gone in a nicer way of saying it.

I don't like to repeat myself as we had this discussion before, but I'm going to have to say it again here:

Not everyone can afford the money or time to play a series of games spanning 6 or 7 titles.

You shouldn't slam others just for speaking on what they think at the moment, provided that they expressed their opinion in a civil manner. How would you feel if you were to express an opinion regarding a character's voice, but then being told to shut up just because you don't speak Japanese? You even mentioned "sense of empathy" in a previous argument, so why can't you be empathic here? Remember, not everyone can have the fortune to experience what you did.

Tell them about what they are missing without attacking them. One would be more likely to change their mind if you're being encouraging, not demeaning, right?

---

But all in all, this is what I like about you. You at least try to remain calm throughout and explain yourself in a non-arrogant manner, unlike some people I talked to. If more people can act like you, the world would be a better place.

I thought I already told you YouTube playthroughs are free and worldwide available. Anyway, counting on you taking care of that some day. Just try to do it before the release of Vol. 4. At least I could be thankful that we met here and not in a forum about politics or religion, otherwise it would be impossible for us two to get along at all.

Yeah, but when I play a Visual Novel, I want to experience it first-hand and without scenes being removed (even though I don't really enjoy Nekopara's H-scenes, H-scenes in general can sometimes be pretty important for character building) so Youtube playthroughs is not for me :(

Kestisan said:

Any particular reason why?

-

Talk about Vol. 4, I remember seeing the promotional material saying that it will involve the Minaduki family going on an onsen vocation, and then to France - where they will meet Fraise.

The plot seems pretty fun, I love travelling stories like these. I'm looking to forward to Vol. 4 actually.

-

Though I'm interested in what you think of the new premise, as well as the new nekogirls: Fraise and (grown up) Milk.

Can you make a comment?

If you ask me, the harem expansion was a surprise to me. I know Kashou (the real one, not the anime castrated version) is young, and vigorous and all but... more than 6 lovers? Man, this guy is not human. This is probably going to be the longest Volume so far, cant wait for it. I miss the original voices so much. Even so, I don't know if they can maintain the level they have been keeping until now.

Anyway, I say is okay for you to just watch gameplays of Nekopara. Like I said before, is a lineal visual novel, no decisions, only one possible outcome, is like a long movie. The only interactive thing you can do is pat the girls on the head and that's it. Hurry up! Vol. 4 is nearby.

Not... quite what I expected but it is a perfectly reasonable comment. Thanks for that, I was just curious.

Don't worry, even though I'm very critical of the Nekopara VN, those things aren't enough to put me off. In fact, I rated Vol. 1 6/10 (Catgirls are my weakness, argh), so even though I've seen many better VNs (unlucky for Nekopara I guess, VN standard ceiling is VERY high), I would still say it's an enjoyable experience overall. I'm definitely gonna buy the rest of the VNs on sale.

Anyway, facing off with you was certainly a memorable experience. Cheers, be seeing ya!

I would not say that it is bad, it's just an ad with girls with the message "did you like someone? Buy VN to fuck her!". VN adaptations typically advertise “alternative” routes, but in this case, the anime has focused entirely on the heroines.

@Kestisan Well, at least they don’t overwrite the main plot, only adding some harmless SoL arcs and turning the bisexual journey of two girls into cheap yuri bait. The only thing I do not understand, it's too much attention to Cinnamon as if they were afraid that without her perversion and feelings to Maple, they will simply be too boring and herbivorous without male lead.

I enjoyed this a lot. Felt like I kinda knew the characters since I played the game.
Actually felt great seeing them in an Anime.

Really disappointed they added Cacao, though.
She kinda took over the show and the other girls were busy looking for her all the freaking time, which started boring me the 2nd time it happened. And she's not even cute, fun or nice.., idk.

It could have been better for sure, shame it didn't have Ecchi either, but I still enjoyed it nonetheless.
Yay to catgirls!

I get what you mean. I initially didn't like Cacao's character that much either. But later I realised they needed a character like Cacao to give Chocola a way to develop her character, since without romance (Kashou, by extension), Chocola lost the little character depth she had in the VN.

i.e. Cacao finally gives Chocola something unique to her character; a purpose for her character to continue existing in the anime.

However, I DO think that maybe they focused a little too much on Cacao without actually going anywhere with it though... For a character as important to the plot as her, you would think they could at least give her more character development (where did she come from, why is she acting as she does etc.).

Are you expected hentai? Go play the VN man. Or maybe you're expected similar plot to VN? Play the goddamit VN please.

As person who played both VN and watched this, i can say i'm satisfied enough with this anime adaptation. It reflexes the cat companions daily life with cacao as spice and put it on generic SoL-Comedy formula.

My complain is maybe lack of Kashou roles there and different VA than the VN ones. Also the animation and art is kinda..... meh. But its okay i guess.

Good show overall, i enjoyed it every week

I prefer this slice of life version where the anime focus on the catgirls, instead of a harem version where they focus on the guy running the store - a harem version would make me drop this.

purchased a cd to support the catgirls.
