THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Though I didn't grow up with this show I totally enjoyed it. It's actually quite dark for a kids show, but many Anime originally aimed for children touches upon serious topics. I've also read the Manga and found it even darker than the show, many things were toned down or altered in the adaption (naturally).
The stepmother in the show wasn't as cruel as in the Manga. And there weren't pets (thankfully).
Arthur originally got addicted to drugs which I found more plausible than his "headaches due to the shot wound" that magically disappeared at the end of the show (it was also strange that he was locked in a prison-like room in the Anime and Maria never noticed or protested against it). Also, it was hinted that he was raped and tortured by Arwin in the Manga. The show has actually made Arthur weaker, because Arthur would certainly try to escape or defy if he weren't addicted to drugs. And he wouldn't have attempted suicide either if he was just a prisoner. Death as an escape from the drugs, shame and torture is more understandable.
I also didn't like how obsessive Abel's love for Georgie was portrayed in the show. He's actually a very protective character who would die for Arthur and Georgie.
Though I love the (very sad, very cruel and tragic) ending of the Manga, but in this case I'm actually glad that the show gave us a different ending.

I didn't like this...

Georgie decided to bet on Maria to save Arthur, and it was the right choice. In the end, Maria didn't know anything about Arthur's circumstances as I thought she did, she wasn't part of this sick game, and she made it possible for Georgie, and the others to retrieve him. However, Arwin noticed it and chased them, but when he tried to shoot Abel the gunshot noise scared his horse, and he fell from it, and I think that he died, but since he wasn't even mentioned again, I can't be sure.

But well, some time passed², and Arthur's testimony was enough for the Duke to be investigated again, punished, and for Gerald's rank, and rights to be restored. Georgie, and her father then went to a ball to celebrate it, but she was reminded of her unpleasant experiences during the royall ball, and wasn't really enjoying herself. That was when Lowell, and Elise appeared, and he started to make a scene because he was so stupid that he thought that Georgie had abandoned him. Maybe Elise poisoned him against her, I don't know, but only a fool wouldn't realize that she did what she did to save his life, and it seems he's a fool.

But the worst part of it all was that even though the misunderstanding was cleared, and they still loved each other, they decided to give up on their love out of consideration for Elise, who was never a good person from the first moment she appeared on the story, and this is ridiculous. I know that she saved his life when Georgie couldn't, even though it was certainly easy for her to ask for money to her father or uncle but love isn't something you buy, and if it was out of love that she saved him, she would've let him free on that moment so that he could go back to Georgie's side, but she was selfish to the end, and Georgie was the greater, and most silly person here.

And to make things worse, the ending wasn't conclusive at all, she only told her father that she wanted to go back to Australia, and he wasn't against it, but seriously? Is she just going to go back to the ranch with Abel, and Arthur like this? When both of them are in love her, even though Arthur never said what he really wanted to say, and she doesn't love them like they want? It ended where it started, it would've been such a better ending if she stayed with Lowell as a countess, Abel stayed working on designing ships, and Arthur with Maria, who was taken in by the Barnes, who we never saw again, or something. This was really lackluster, and rushed, the Duke didn't even have time to retaliate or try anything one last time, and things were left in the open too. The story up to this point was great, one of the best shoujo I've ever watched, but unfortunately it ended like this.

lol they were no way they could end well the anime at the last episode with all the work to do!
Like seriously in the two last episodes :
- She met her father
- They liberate Arthur
- They needed to clear the story with her father
- Put the bad guys in jail
- Going back in Australy (all three of them + her father ? to work at the farm ?what even happenned to the old uncle ?)
- Made a good ending to all the characters (no way, they just throw out ALL the side characters in this series, they didn't even had time for the MC)

- And seriously she END UP SINGLE LIKE WTF, it was the love of your life for god sake and the girl was an entitled bitch!
I can't believe she left the love of her life who was ready to die to be with her, with a girl he don't care about because "she saved your life, love you and she's ruined bouhou stay with her you owe her your life", like REALLY ?! NOBODY WOULD EVER DO THAT

What the hell were they thinking, it should have been at least 50 episodes!

Dangerling has been taken care of, and Arthur is safe. Thank goodness.

It's too bad that Georgie and Lowell didn't end up together, although if she wanted him bad enough, she probably could've yanked him out of Elisa's arms, but she knows that despite her ways, Elisa actually does love Lowell, so she decided to let the two of them be together, as difficult as it was for her, as I believe that a part of Georgie always wanted to return to Australia, and that's where she and her brothers are going, and maybe her father will come as well.

Overall, this was a great anime. I wasn't certain if it would be able to hold a candle to Candy Candy, but it really is a great one, that got even better in the later episodes.

For me, the episodes before the last were the best of the series. Unfortunately, the series ended inconclusive for the 3 (step)siblings with this last episode.

Arthur was able to tell them what he wanted, that Georgie's dad was innocent and he served as the witness.

Honestly I didn't like Lowell in the few episodes he and Georgie were together. A whiff of difficulty and he couldn't cope. He treated Georgie poorly despite her working herself to exhaustion to save up for his operation. He even complained and hit Georgie when she brought flowers home. I get that he is a noble and unaccustomed to a hard life but at least support your woman and be grateful for what she is doing for you. Lowell is obviously educated, why doesn't he understand that people need to work to survive/how money works? He was stupid since he thought he could survive with no money. Why couldn't he at least try to amass his own power so he can marry her freely?

I wasn't rooting for them to end up together since Lowell showed that he can only be with you for richer but not for poorer. He showed that he is both weak emotionally and intellectually. This was also hinted at earlier in the show, where her family was telling her that she and Lowell are not compatible because Georgie is used to the living the hard life while Lowell is not.

They should have added one more episode where the evil Count went to trial where all his crimes came to light and was sentenced. This is just my guess: Arthur being addicted can't be mentioned in the anime because it is still a kid's show after all, they could have been limited by censorship.

Anyway I think the anime wanted to at least end where the manga did, where they are all back in Australia, and Georgie realizing she was in love with Abel after all.

At least they are together in the anime, where I imagine she has Abel's kid(in the manga she did) and lived happily ever after with him and Arthur.

The relationships of the main 3 siblings seem to be back to square one. I think Abel has let Georgie go (thankfully) and it seems Arthur is willing to play brother to the end. It is unfortunate though when both the brothers had suitors so there could've been more of a happy ending for both of them.

Then the elephant in the room of how Lowell and Georgie ended up. Honestly I'm not too fussed about that, I don't know if it was the show's intention or not but I think Lowell was never going to be truly up for a life with Georgie as a commoner. He often lashed out about their circumstances whenever they were together which suggested that while he loved Georgie he would've preferred it to be on his terms and as a noble. I think also Georgie was never going to be cut out for the life of a noble once she became one. Again not sure if this was deliberate but it had the air of puppy love and was destined to probably fail. There is a part of me that believes long term that he would be happier with Elise.

But of course that leaves Georgie all alone at the end and back in Australia, which is sad but I'm pleased she is home again at least. The ending certainly feels rushed though. I'm slightly disappointed we didn't get a more conclusive ending, we never saw Kevin again nor William Adam Jnr. We didn't see Georgie visit her step mothers grave or indeed learn what happened to her birth mother. While we can presume she died the fact her 'corpse' was missing suggested at one point in the show there was more to be told there. Also the whole 'Cain' lookalike thing for Abel and Arthur was weird. Was their father the true Cain? Or was it simply that Cain was just what they named Arthur after he was captured by the Dandlings. I don't know I got abit lost in all that.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anyway what an incredible series that I had no real intention of watching right now. I bought the Discotek SD-BD and as I do with all new releases I popped it in to see what the video quality was like and found myself glued to it immediately.

2 weeks later and it's all over and what a ride I've been on. This is one very melodramatic series, though apparently the manga is more so. I might try the manga one day or maybe skip to the end to see the differences.

I'm really sad to leave this show behind, I don't know what to score it right now. I'm honestly leaning a 10/10, I truly have loved it but there are times when it frustrated me and the ending was rushed and abit empty all told. I think I'll stew on what to score it for a day or so.

Only problem now is what to do with my life now this show is over haha.
