Right after Reiji is shot and falls to the ground, Ein turns to him with a smile on her face; she didn't seem the least bit shocked that Reiji had been killed. Plus, the location seemed too coincidental. He died in a spot where Ein could simply ingest the natural poison and "join" Reiji on the other side.

He dies but Eren doesnt, Eren lives on in her homeland, she thinks she can live on due to the memories she had with reiji. Ein the Phantom is dead, but Eren is alive.

To answer your question, She knew Reiji was going to die as soon as they found her memories.

Reiji wanted to join Cal in the other side.

While she does state that she can live on due to her memories she had with Reiji, I don't think that'll stop those assassins from killing her though. Sure, she can hide in her homeland and live on, but I believe the stress of doing so (hiding away from the assassins) and Reiji's death will cause her to no longer want to live and thus commit suicide. She wasn't even blinking at the end, which tells me that she's dead. Eren might live on, but for how long before she dies?

Reiji knew he was never going to escape those assasins and he didnt feel like running anymore after having kills Cal etc, he lost his will to live after bring Eren to her homeland, and with his death, Eren is free from assasins etc and everything that tied her to her old assasin lifestyle, she can live on with the memories she had with Reiji.


pretty sad end for Reij and Cal tbh, I really believe that Reiji loved Cal in a romantic sense whearas he loved Eren as a sister.

She states numerous times that she can't live on without Reiji, so it makes sense that while she tries to live a normal life for his sake after his death, it becomes too much for her to bear to live without him, so he resolves to kill herself to be with him in death. Thus, it's very likely she killed herself sometime after Reiji's death to be with him again, this time in death. So, yeah, she does die along with Reiji.

It's also possible that Inferno could still be after her after they killed Reiji since she's a former Phantom as well, so they would want to kill her so that she's no longer a threat to Inferno. So, it'll occur like I said above, she'll live a normal life for a few months for Reiji's sake (after hiding from Inferno after she saw Reiji killed, of course) after his death, until it becomes too much for her to bear to keep on living without Reiji by her side alive. That, and Inferno is still hunting her down.

Thus, she resolves to go back to the place where Reiji was killed months later and kill herself in order to be with him in death; she won't let Inferno kill her on their own terms, so she'll commit suicide on her own terms. She knows she'll die sooner or later, so rather than let Inferno kill her, she'll kill herself to rob them of that satisfaction. That, and she's already fulfilled in her life with her memories of Reiji and living a bit on for his sake, but now, it no longer matters anymore, and she just wants to join him in death, unable to live her life without him.

Thus, she goes back to the place in her homeland where he was killed and proceeded to commit suicide via flower poison, dying also instantly and joining him in death. Inferno might have found her dead body moments later to confirm her death.

Yeah, the ending is still unclear, but to me, it looks like Eren was there physically when she killed herself. What do you think?

Ein doesnt physically die at the end, but I could understand why people think so mainly due to their lack of symbolism in the anime.


I do really feel bad for Cal tho the most out of everyone. but atleast she got to be with Reiji in her final moment.

He knew too much about Inferno, so they killed him to prevent him from saying anything that will expose them? They won't stop until they actually kill him. Eren doesn't know much about Inferno since she wasn't by Scythe's side at his meetings, etc. (she was probably ordered by Scythe to not be by his side during those meetings with Inferno, she was likely on assignments away or was ordered to stay in her living quarters, away from Inferno). That must be why Raymond doesn't know anything about her. Eren would gather information though, likely for assignments, but she kept it to herself most of the time. I think she gathers information, just not info about Inferno?

Ein/Eren doesn't physically die at the end? Ein the Phantom dies, but Eren herself lives on, living for the sake of her memories with Reiji and for his sake as well. Eren kills off her Phantom self so that she herself (as Eren) will live on for Reiji's sake? I still believe Eren physically dies though from the above posts I made. She did state that she couldn't live in a world without Reiji by her side, so eventually she would kill herself to be with him in death, and thus she would kill herself several months after his death (after trying to live on for his sake).

Yeah, at least Cal was able to reconcile and be with Reiji in her final moments before she dies in his arms. Sad, it could have gone a different way.

there is a translation issue with the last episode when reiji gets shot, Eren says " WIth theme memories I can live on), Reiji even expected her to live on, thats why he was smiling, he was reassured of her future. If Eren was planning to kill herself, she wouldnt smile at Reiji being dead, she smiled at Reiji being dead because she knew it was going to happen and his suffering ended. She can move on now.
