THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
THIS ANIME CERTAINLY IS A GEM.
I'm so glad I watched it. I was scared for a minute that Chungu and Li wouldn't even be in the same room, again. So I'm glad since everything is going well.
The dishes Li makes look amazing. I would want to try it in real life, too.
I wonder what Chungu said at the end?! I HOPE HE SAID I LOVE YOU OTHERWISE I'M GO AND HIT HIM WITH MY LEG.
BTW, the older brother of the second male character (forgot his name) looking through the inn, too.
I want a second season. PLEASE MAKE A SECOND SEASON. I WANT MORE. I NEED MORE.

The dub I watched said 'don't worry you didn't crack my eggs' this made me laugh so much. I would take a guess he said I love you or something alone those lines.
So sad it ended there, the second half really changed the tone but I enjoyed the change of pace, bit disappointed it had nothing to do with the start of the show...was hoping to find out what happened.

I really hope this gets another season, but at the same time, I don't know where it can go. I want the Jinxuan and Chunyu to get together again, but I don't know how that would align with her (assumed) goal of being a master chef.

I literally watched all episodes yesterday, I must say the last episode is definitely a good episode to end the series. It didn't leave me the sad feeling, it gave me a satisfying ending, so I am happy, it's potential re-watch material for me, as I like seeing how she cooks the food, the only thing I am disappointed about it's how the subs are. But, I am thankful that they exist.

I would watch the second season if it comes out, but this donghua felt like a nosedive for me. I guess I had a different impression of what the series would be about than what it was actually "about about." Obviously, since it was based on a web novel and considering that I haven't read the web novel, I'm pretty sure my impression of the small snapshot of the donghua is off. Nonetheless, it went from being action packed/war/military to being about slice of life and cooking. Don't get me wrong, cooking is at the forefront of the series, crystal clear, but the fact that she never unraveled the trauma and betrayal and at the end it was okay??? And they never unpacked the wedding/marriage? The other Ye Jinxuan?? A missed opportunity. Also, her meeting the Little Lord, the concept itself was toooo cliche for my taste. I think I was never able to ""like'" the Little Lord (I can't even remember his name) because it was right after the mission and I wanted to know more about the Third Master. I found myself impatient and wanting to see more of the ""main couple"". But by the end when he finally show up, the romance was cringy as heck, and suddenly the Third Master has time to be at Heavenly Inn when he was so busy before. Lol. This felt like it wanted to be a lot of things: romance, drama, historical, cooking, but in the end, it felt like a half baked potato: bland, but versatile I guess. Pretty sure I could review this, but I didn't want to censor all the spoilers.

I think this is a good anime overall. A second season would be great. Everyone wants to know what he said to her in the end.

WHAT IF IT WAS ALL A DREAM AND SHE WOKE UP FROM IT AND GOT TOGETHER WITH THE "PRESENT" CHUNYU?? Think about it, they all had modern clothing in the end song. Maybe because she was so focused on her career, she never got a chance to interact with other people. She has seen these people in the real world but only remained in her subconsciousness. RIGHT??? Maybe it's a wake up call to finally follow her heart and pursue a lovelife. She can't die in the real world and accept to live in ancient China just like that. And as someone who loves cooking, I appreciate the animation and the presentation of the food without the foodgasm expressions when they eat it like Shokugeki omagawd lol!

Is there any news that there would be a season 2? It's been a year and it doesn't look like it's gonna happen.

I tried looking into the comic to get my Meng Qi Shi Shen fix, but I was really shocked at how different the story and characters were in the comic adaptation. Sure, the main premise is generally the same, but it almost felt AU with how the plot is executed. And Chunye's personality feels totally different! I was pretty disappointed with how different the comic was from the donghua adaptation. D: Dunno if anybody else felt the same...

Second season needed.
I need more food anime. And a new work like this set in what looks like the Song Dynasty (This is a guess based on the city soldiers head attire).

And the action scenes have been for the most part great. Which is surprising considering this is an anime on food. The thing that needs to improve is the number of frames in the fight, as I can see how some areas don't feel smooth enough.

If they can get it to Hitori no Shita season 3 episode 2 levels. that will be insane but worth it.

Also this is one of the few shows that has a female lead. The rest so far I have seen have a male lead.

Got some Food Wars meets Fruit Ninja in this episode lmfao xD

Loved this donghua so much. I wanted more lovey-doveyness between the two, especially at the end TT^TT we were too spoiled with that early kiss episode, they didn't reward us any more. Ahuhuhu.... Q~Q

Xiao Jing sure gave up on Jinxuan easily :3 he didn't question more persistently about the history of those two? o.O lulz. Wanted to see his reaction to her being a girl. Xiao Jing even accidentally bumped her little bewbies. He's so slow XD

The time skip was too many episodes without the handsome Chunyu haha. New season with more doki doki moments plzzzzz!

I did the same thing and yeah, Chun Yu and Ye Jin Xuan's personalities are completely different in the light novel.

So disappointing, kind of ruined the story for me! I'm just regarding the anime as its own separate story as the light novel is nothing like it. I am posting this as a warning to others - don't read the light novel.

I really loved this anime so much. Loved the characters and story. It was executed beautifully. It was adorable and light, yet had great drama and fight scenes, too. Too bad we couldn't find out more about Ye Jin Xuan's rotten family.

It seems there was supposed to be a second season, but it was canceled? (╥  ₒ ╥)

I guess I will just sit and wait for the next season of Tong Ling Fei and Xie Wang Zhui Qi. <333

Lovely anime. I wonder though, what happened to the marinated eggs that she prepared before the whole attack started? Will they ever dig that up, lol?

Anyway, very enjoyable watch, funny subs at times. Nice characters and all that shokugeki imagery.

The plot jumped somewhat from one arc to another, but I guess, now that she's settled in the inn as a cook, the progression will become smoother.
