Ended way better than it could, considering the original creator. Guess they decided to go hand in hand with the time and did not follow the spirit of... you know whatever. A great ending.

Some interesting moments: Both Hyakkimaru and Tahoomaru have their swords glowing blue - their resolve is just and neither of them is bad, its the demons and the tragedy who made them fight each other.
Daigo trying to taunt Hyakkimaru by saying he will feed him to demons again was an obvious attempt to anger his own son into murdering him, thus reuniting with everyone he has lost. Naturally, blessed be statuettes, Hyakkimaru became human in all meanings of this word and left his father contemplating his regrets alone.

A very good anime. I really liked it. 8/10 for me overall.

The last episode was a bit disappointing tho. They should've shown a bit more of what happens after the timeskip. Atleast we got a glimpse of the grown up Dororo.

And btw WTF?! Why did Tahomaru , his Mom and the other guy die for no reason at all?? To make things worse the Mom says that she will watch over Tahomaru from now on since Hyakkimaru can now finally live his life like a human... And the next thing u know , THEY FRICKING DIE. *FACEPALM*

You do not understand a large piece of art here. By saying she will watch over Tahoomaru she implies she will be there with him in the afterlife, being there together. Wherever it takes them. Tahoomaru, relieved that she is finally there for him, closes his eyes, accepting their fate. As both three played part in this tragedy, they perished but clearly did so in virtuous way. The main culprit to the whole mess, Daigo, is alive since his suffering is now living alone in a world he destroyed himself.

I see. Still I feel it was a bit forced tbh that Tahomaru had to die. He clearly was only a victim to the schemes put forth by Daigo and he could've escaped with Dororo and Hyakkimaru. The mom and the other guy dying is still ok , they failed and regrets their past mistakes and does not want to live I guess. I wanted to see Tahomaru escape , make peace with his brother and become the new Lord of the land.

To be honest I wanted the same, but their Tahoomaru only ever wanted to be seen by his mother, he always felt as if he was robbed of her and everything else just because Hyakkimaru existed. In this sense, Tahoomaru achieved that which he always wanted - his mother acknowledged him and promised to watch over him from now on. It is all he ever wanted and he kinda accepts going up in flames with the castle. We got a way happier ending than it could be, as every character got a dignified ending, including Daigo even, though his ending is most tragic, as it should be.

we arrive at final episode the last fight is very intense but waw,, tahoumaru realize that he can beat his brother and at last hyakimaru miss his attack for remembering dororo and his mother,, and tahoumaru give the eye to hyakimaru, then the demon is come at the time hyakimaru still feel pain by the back of his eye but his mother and jukai save him, at this moment the real family was meet, as mother and step father that save him,,
this moment really touched,, but mmm they let hyakimaru go , its very short meet but their face is the first thing that hyakimaru seen with the real eye,, but as mother is act unfair to tahoumaru is little cruel dont it, i feel pity of tahoumaru who dont feel the love of his mother,,,
but i glad that hyakimaru got his eyes and can see what beautiful world is..
but the pay for that is let his mother, brother and step father even the land is burn and end with fire, the contract is done,,
at last hyakimaru not kill his real father and said that not the way to living for,,
and his father feel regret about it,,
hyakimaru make his adventure alone without dororo build a country and then time passed What the fuck Dororo very beautyfull, its very very wtf,, they meet again and END..

whoa this series is very unforgetable for me, it has special place in my heart, the ending is very beautifull and sadness at same time but every i watched this anime i fell something warm in my heart making me forget how boring and suck reality is,, this is cure and energy source of my life,,
thanks for making this,, i very grateful,,

I’m saying it didn’t have to end that way though Ik it was impossible to survive in that situation.

umm do you guys realized that Jukai, Nui and Tahou are doing Seppuku aka suicide?? I bet they just wanna pay for their ""sin"" and died in honour, not complain though, however, it is what the culture at that period

Everything about this anime urges me to give it a 10/10 but the last two episodes lowered the score to a 9 (I'm being generous)

I haven't watched the original but I could tell it did the title justice. I heard the ending is slightly different from the manga and it makes me curious because the ending didn't settle well with me.
I just found it slightly ridiculous how Dororo followed Hyakki through such a hellish journey just to be left in the end. I understand that Hyakkimaru wants to rid himself of his sins but can't he do that with Dororo around? I mean if Dororo was there to witness him on the edge of turning into a demon, why can't she be there as he regains his humanity?
They should have at least devoted a proper 20 seconds for their reunion.

Would people even be talking about Dororo Hyakkimaru Romance if Dororo had been a boy? This all just seems to be that unspoken rule that if there is a boy and girl in a story then there must be a romance between them. Also I noticed in the manga Dororo only ever crushes on girls. So probably never gonna be any Hyakkimaru x Dororo,

I needed some clarification on the ending if anyone would be so kind...

[SPOILERS]

- Why did Hyakkimaru's Mom and adopted Father, choose die in the fire?
- Why did Hyakkimaru split ways with Dororo?

Only two things I did not understand, maybe the message was lost in translation.

Other than that it was a good series, but I definitely lost interest after the dip in quality after the first season.
Also this one appears to have picked up the awful ending curse, anime is riddled with.

This ending felt reeeaaally underwhelming tbh.

Am I the only one who felt the themes suddenly shifted at the end? It felt like they were going for one thing the whole time(i.e Hyakkimaru stopping at nothing to get his parts, the questionable morality of his actions, this making him progressively more of a demon and less of a human, ironically causing him to get back less and less body parts), but then it was all either retconned or brushed aside by the end.

Also, the final demon dying that easily after all the buildup it had was super disappointing. Not even getting into how retarded the outcome is for Dororo, her trusting a bunch of random men with her father's treasure without Hyakkimaru to protect her.

Tahomaru tried to kill hyakkimaru more than once. I do not know why hyakkimaru would spare his life in evz d ematar tahomaru.
Nui is a stranger who never took care of hyakkimaru, he would not have feelings or affective ties. More realistically he treat her like a stranger.
The Mappa studio seems to want to follow Disney's logic with the hunchback of notre Dame and not wanting a story with a very dark end.

I don't get why some people are saying the ending was underwhelming. Maybe they were expecting more action and something more flashy and adrenaline-packed.
Sure, some endings are fun like that.

But Dororo ended with a spiritual-like peace, you know?
It wasn't for some great big plot, it was just to finally feel at peace with what they've done in the past and to just end all the suffering and stress they've been through. It's kind of like taking a great big nap after a tiring day.
That feeling of falling onto your bed and you're out within seconds.

And to quote mayhem1994's comment:
"Some of you guys really aren't paying attention to what's going on..."

Some of them might be expecting a flashy ending like fight scene of the big boss and such. Some might be expecting some epilogue like Dororo and Hyakkimaru together..

Tbh, this was the perfect ending I could asked for. Even in ep 23. I already or the anime itself already showing that the final episode is about closure. What each characters choice will be. It is not entirely about killing the big boss demon. It is more of what Hyakkimaru will choose in the end. The anime pretty much wrap up what the whole show wanted to convey. Hyakkimaru choose to be a human. Dororo decided to help the villagers using the money she have. Jukai, Nui and Tahoumaru choose die to finally repent all the guilt they must have felt finally able to fullfill all their roles. Daigo surviving being the most harsh punishment as he have to live all the sin he committed alone.
The whole ending is about closure to everyone. It is a quite closure. So I really don't understand how it was also underwhelm to others.... or they really expecting a flashy ending then...

Thanjh said:
People defending this ep are like people defending GOT season 8. Yes things happened that made sense that they happened but it didn't make sense how they got there. For example, Nui and Taho dying. Yes it made sense that Nui wanted to be there with Taho but made no sense why she couldn't drag him from the fire and stay with him until he died then lived on.

Essentially, the show had good points but but bad development/execution. Still a solid 8/10

Woow, so much to say! I absolutely loved this anime and there were so many touching scenes in the last episodes and the visuals to them were stunning!

I liked Tahoumaru, in the last episodes almost as much as Hyakki and Dororo. I would have loved to see him survive. :(
His point of view and feelings are very understandable. Hyakki and he are similar in these aspects. Both felt like they were threw away by their parents and felt lonely for a long time. Now, before he died, Tahoumaru even had lost his two dearest friends, but his mother stayed by his side.

For Hyakki, the new senses always meant to experience the worst and best of the world, like a child born into the world.
He got his nerve system back ... felt pain instantly, was able to hear, heard Mio's beautiful singing voice and later her screaming, got eyes, he saw his mother's face and then a burning castle and his brother dying.

I don't like that the ending is too easy for a complicated issue. You could have done 25 episodes at least to explain more of the end, like how Dororo's money build up the land etc.

Although the very last seconds were awesome. They are so cute and adorable and I love how the hinted that ship lol.
Dororo became a beautiful, young lady and Hyakki's facial expressions got so warm and kind. I mean, he is beautiful too. xD
They look so content and happy now, I want to ship this since Dororo is older. ❤
Like they said in that one episode: We will be happy. ❤

It baffles me how a lot of ppl don't like the ending; I think it ended the way that it should. A lot of y'all wanted it to be overly climatic and over the top, for the ending to be the an exaggerated calm after the storm with seeing how everyone is in the future. And then bam; series over. Did I want that before going into to this episode? Yeah. But, I don't think that's it's intent. Lemme break down my interpretation of the answer to the biggest question I've seen:

"Why did Tahomaru, Nui, and second Mom die at the end?! They should've lived!"
I believe it has to do something with demons. Second Mom(Forgot his name) was dealing with his own inner demon from all the sins he committed while was working with Shiba. He felt like he wanted to move past his sins with that boy he saved, Kaname, but when he heard of SM's doing, he abandoned him. Even while taking care of Hyakki, SM was waiting for death to happen. That's why he didn't escape, his purpose for being alive was accomplished.
Nui regretfully rejected her son and live plentifully knowing that the reason why they're prosperous is because of her son. While regretting what she did to Hyakki, she neglected Taho. She failed as a mother, and instead of living with Hyakki, she chose to finally stay by Taho, yknow... The one who was CLEARLY dying and he was not going to make it, even with medical attention. That was her way to make up for the love Taho yearned for.
And for Taho... I feel like during the beginning of the series, he wanted to meet his older brother, to finally understand why his mother was to distant from him. But when they met, instead of choosing family, he chose to protect his land and wrote off Hyakki as a demon, thus he himself got possessed by the last demon. Even though it was Mutsu who offered herself and seemingly he and Hyogo got tied up with it, he probably saw that as a chance to keep his land rich. During the whole fight, that was the Taho who saw Hyakki as a demon, and a little of the last demon in him. When Hyakki showed Taho mercy, that was the humanity in him showing(which is why I think at that part it only showed the "human" side of his face). That's why he said fuck it and gave Hyakki his eyes back, thus ending the contract he made and having to die for it.

In one shape or form, all three dealt with a type of demon, thus accepting their fate to face their consequences for what they did to Hyakki. Even though Hyakki killed multiple people, he almost turned into a demon himself but he chose the path of the Goddess of Mercy. If he killed Diago, that would've killed the entire purpose of Hyakki's journey: to get his body back and restore humanity within himself. Even though he almost got consumed by the need of having his body back, he chose to deal with his sins on a journey of self-redemption and acceptance of everything, before reuniting with Dororo. He did say he left for himself.

THAT^ ending for me suits the end of this rollercoaster more than the more predictable one. I do hope for an OVA of a timeskip, but I doubt it, and if doesn't happen, I'm pretty satisfied with the party we all just went through. Not every ending has to be clearly laid on the table, people!

Goodbye n thanks for coming to my ted talk. uwu

Ikr. I see Dororo and Hyakkimaru as siblings. Dororo even calls him her brother. Just coz Dororo grew up doesn't mean she should end up with Dororo (not gonna complain if they did btw :P ). Although that theme does seem a little out of place in context. I can't say I understand where the idea even comes from, As far as I know there isn't anything like that in the manga.

I wouldn't say he got 0 development , but the fact he didn't get a redemption arc means he didn't really need it cause the moral ambiguity of his character made him special, and a redemption arc would take away from that.

Great series, ended better for the two mains then I expected. Only issue I have is the scene with his mum and the older guy. They clearly had time to get everyone out in time lol but decided to chat for awhile, and she doesn't even try save her other son?? They all just sacrifice themselves... Seemed a bit silly imo. But other than that was a brilliant series.

Not great but still a satisfying conclusion for a very interesting series. The confrontation between Hyakki and Tahoumaru ended a bit too abruptly for my taste and the "fight" against the Asura was really underwhelming as well but leaving that aside, I don't have any other complain about this last episode.

Regarding the series as a whole, I do think that a few episodes were unnecessary for the story progression, which makes me think they could have been better used for this final arc's development but well. Nothing really serious either.

7/10 - By the way, I really appreciate the last scene being set at the rice field. It seems Hyakki didn't forget about Mio's dream and decided to make it come true. If that was the case, it was a very sweet detail.

The episode felt very rushed, but it's okay I guess; I liked it anyway.
The ending scene where Dororo runs towards Hyakkimaru in the middle of the golden fields, it was so intense to watch, I absolutely loved the ending! Though I still wish Hyakki's development in the last few episodes was a bit slow paced because then it would've felt more natural. Anyway, Omg I loved this anime T_T
What am I going to do now? I don't feel like watching anything else. :(

Some episodes this series were pretty depressing, lots of innocent people falling victims.

Nothing really stood out for me, but it was still very enjoyable and I felt it didn't do anything really wrong. 8/10 from me.
