| I very much dislike sports anime, but I’ve heard from other people who dislike sports anime that this series is different and extremely enjoyable. Based on the first episode alone, I am definitely interested. It isn’t like with Free! where the only thing being focused on is the sport. It’s weird because that IS basically what’s happening, but it doesn’t feel like it. Yuri seems to have more character than simply “I like skating end of story”. He isn’t perfect, either. I really can’t describe it, but this just seems different. Perhaps because I like figure skating more than swimming since it’s so expressive. Watching the swimming got boring, but seeing these guys skate puts a smile on my face. I just hope Yuri can take all his posters down before Viktor sees his room. I swear that was borderline creepy. I had an obsession with a person, but I only had two posters of her in my room. His room seriously creeps me out, lol. That ending, though. If I were him I’d just be like, “I’m done,” and walk away, lol. |

| Whoaa, this has to be one of the best first episodes I've seen in a long time O_O So much has happened I have to take a second and think about it! Btw, about that cute girl MC was showing off to, not sure if I understand correctly, the masculine guy is her husband and the triplets are their children? At first I thought they were just her annoying little sisters but now I'm not so sure anymore... Animation is outstanding, characters are just beautiful (ESPECIALLy guys, huehue), the best first impression possible in my case. Am I in fujoshi heaven or what! The only things I disliked were really generic, western-ish pop songs, both op&ed, sighh. Hopefully at least the opening song will grow on me in a few episodes... |

| I didn’t plan to watch this show at first because I thought it would be another queer-baiting series. I mean I prefer that you either go gay or not. Queer-bait is just not cool. That being said, I don’t like shows being gay just for being gay either. Anyway, thanks to one of my favorite youtube vloggers, I learnt a little bit more about this show from his review on 2016 anime. It certainly made me become interested in the anime. The 1st ep was OK, nothing too special, Yuuri’s monologue on his feelings for Victor before the intro was quite nice tho. The last scene in the hot spring caught me off guard. Victor sure has a nice body. BTW, using mom’s account to post videos online is totally what today’s kids would do. Good job! |

| Dang the OP is actually really good, love the song and visuals. Absolutely loving the premise, the characters feel real and are sure to have quite some backstory to tell us. Was wondering when people would address Yuri's weight. The visuals during the skating section were good but also weird since it's supposed to be a fluent motion but you can clearly see the different frames being used, still it could be worse. I hope the "comedy" parts don't take over the entire show though, it's funny at times but I'd rather have a bit more serious interactions. Also ... that ass shot from Victor though. |

| This was great! No! This was amazing! NO! THAT WAS PHENOMENAL! The hype is legit, I am trembling from the excitement of possibly coming across an amazing original series in this age and era. Based on the MAL entry, I am guessing this is an original work, which is great because the writers will be given free reign as to how they want to pace the story and how the story will progress. What I like the most about it is that it didn't feel forced, it didn't force anything.. the flow was great, and it didn't dwell onto one matter/drama too long that it became angsty. We don't need the "cameraman" to show us characters clenching his fists in frustration like it was some innovative directing, nor do we need to see a character cry in frustration, shouting and lashing out at everyone around him. It has a perfect balance to it right now, as oppose to say, Re:ZERO. For example, from what was shown briefly about Victor, we know that he's having issue with his career, possibly a mental block, but the series didn't shove it in your face like you're an idiot, the subtlety is something I enjoy a lot. Also, the animation, the scenery, MAPPA is the GOAT for having such a nicely animated pilot episode even with all the movement which should cost quite a bit, instead of resorting to just stills after stills. Simply better than the folks at Madhouse. I hope the series doesn't fall off a cliff after this phenomenal episode. Nevertheless, it deserves all the hype it got thus far. |

| Was going to make a Yaoi on Ice joke but everyone has already said it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Didn't expect to like it so much! Watched 1 episode because I was told that's all it would take and while I'm not completely sold, I'll definitely watch one or two more at least. |

| Ngl, I expected this anime to be complete Yaoi-bait, but it's not entirely that at all. Entirely... I gotta admit the ice skating scene was pretty mesmerising, and the use of social media makes it quite a modern and relevant anime. I'm actually interested to see how this goes. |

| I feel like MAPPA is doing the best they can here, but their budget and the time allotted just isn't what it needs to be for them to convey what they want to visually. The animation in the skating sequences is meticulous but EXTREMELY choppy, which breaks the immersion. This is really the kind of thing you need to animate on ones if you're going to do it at all. A lot of people complained about how critics were pretending in-betweens as examples of poor animation in this show, but the frames move so slowly that I have time to process those bad in-betweens without slowing down the show or looking at stills, which means they're barely in-betweens at all. That said, the first episode has some decent writing and likable characters. I appreciate that we skipped over Yuri's slump instead of dealing with 3 episodes of angst and flashbacks where nothing substantial happens. That said, if I've gotten any impression from what I've heard about these series over the years, it will eventually ditch any semblance of good storytelling and devolve into BL fanservice. I pray, as someone who is not a BL fan in the slightest and only even picked the show up to check off a checkmark on an anime challenge, that said rumors are greatly exaggerated and there's something besides a ship to root for by the end of this show. |

| Wow, what a great start. MAPPA sure doesn't disappoint; the storyboarding, art and animation are done incredibly well. MAPPA is slowly becoming one of my favorite anime studios, alongside Kyoto Animation and ufotable. White Fox had a spot as well, but they've hardly produced anything noteworthy in the last couple of years. For years I've read comments like "lol yuri on ice is so gay" and I've been wondering whether it was an anime with actual LGBT characters, or whether it's just fujoshi bait. I guess we'll find out soon. This episode leave a great first impression tho. 5/5 |

| victor is gorgeous.... but WTF @ him striking a skating pose in the onsen lmfao also, i just gotta mention this you can tell there's a lot of effort put into the art i mean those backgrounds were ALL so lovely & detailed. even the art showing the office/nishigori home/victor's home was so detailed! scenes that were less than 5s yet so much detail & effort. i really appreciated it such a visual feast! i loved the art! the animation was simply great but a little wonky during those skating scenes you can tell victor's body looked way too elongated when he did those flying spins. haven't warmed up to the MC just yet. but will keep watching, i love sports anime. |

| so this is the great Yuri on ice? An anime about a guy that mindlessly copies his idol and has artists that can't hold a character's physical appearance from one scene to the next? One scene he's flabby and out of shape and then when he ice skates he's as fit as a fiddle? On top of that, how the hell is some one that is supposedly out of practice from giving up skating flawlessly copy a champion skater's moves? also I guess mediocre 3DCG passes for "great animation" these days. Though I guess it's better than the 3fps garbage most anime studios put out when they attempt it. and that ending sure was sudden, where the hell did that come from? Just "I am your coach from now on" with no fricking explanation as to how we got to this point. Jesus. this show has some serious pacing issues. |

I don't really see what the hype about this show is. Apparently it's supposed to be gay af and that's why I held off on watching it but the mc is freaking gushing over his "neechan" in his flashback so is he really gay. His admiration for Victor seems to be almost tied to his need for attention from the girl he liked. The beginning and end was pretty generic. Every sports tv show, anime, movie, book, whatever always starts off like this.  The animation is decent but nothing breathtaking and I don't know shit about Ice-skating so victor doing all those quad twirls did nothing for me. The goofy, cartoonish, chibi-forms also detracted from the drama and there was no comedy except for what felt like an attempt at comedy with the chibi-forms. I've seen prettier boys in JJK lol. 3/5 episode. A decent start but I don't see anything award-winning yet. |
