Sora sure has a lot of things going against her, it's not easy knowing that Layla isn't supporting you. Still, I think the episode isn't too bad and Sora will start to get more friends sooner or later :D

the two of them will probably be best friends eventually, Layla doesn't seem petty enough to develop into the chief rival role. at the moment she's only mistreating her out of a lack of respect for her talent and dedication.

I loved how he proved that he wasn't just a pervert ; )

I don't see what was wrong with her first outfit, i rather liked it. I'm not sure why you'd want to hand out lights either, they could cause a distraction to the performers at a cruicial moment that could prove fatal :/

I think the kid would have questioned the kanji since this is supposed to be happening in America

Nice episode. :) I wouldn't question the "logistics" of the languages either... They couldn't dub the entire series in English, since they were aiming at a Japanese audience, even though it's supposed to be America. Though Sora did sign her name in romaji at the end there... Maybe the kid didn't question her writing in hiragana since she's a clown and supposed to be silly and he thought that she just had a weird signature? :D''' I have no idea, but whatever~ I wonder why she didn't sign her name in kanji though?

I liked her first outfit too, but it perhaps wasn't as comical as her second, so she switched? ... Layla's moves on the trapeze are amazing... Doesn't give her an excuse to be arrogant or anything though. And hah, Fool can actually be useful. XD

The flashy setting and the 'girl struggling to make her dream come true' premise drew me to check this one out. So far so good. I can see Layla developing into something akin to Ayumi Himekawa from Glass Mask: the sort of honorable rival who gets inspired by those who got potential and dedication. She isn't totally a bitch seeing as she accepted Sora for her hard work even though she didn't get the Golden Pheonix right. The reason why she was so hard on Sora might be that she worked hard to get where she was, and it's frustrating seeing someone get in without proving themselves first.

My only complaint so far is how Anna and Mia turned into those Sora cheerleaders when they just befriended her one episode ago. Also, the Soul of Stage and the whole Sora is the one he's been waiting for is a bit cheesy.

Oh I'm sure the boy will cherish that autographed shirt...until Sora becomes a big star that is. After that the shirt will probably be on ebay haha XD

So Kalos is giving Sora the tough love treatment now. It felt pretty abrupt since he was giving her all these opportunities to be on stage 'til now.
On one hand, it was interesting to see Sora appreciate the roles around an actual performance, yet on another, you'd expect her to be given a more active role on stage.
I'm just nitpicking, but she'll eventually be on stage with a lead role. I'm also glad that the spirit is limited to just handing out Tarot cards and foreshadowing Sora's future.

Oh man... I don't know if it's because I was in a weird spot emotionally, but this episode actually made me cry twice! Once when Sora was crying... and the guy said a clown's job is to make people smile, even if his/her heart is crying. For some reason that really resonated with me. And then when the boy wanted Sora's autograph, it was just so heartwearming and awesome! I also like Sora's friends, it's awesome how they are looking out for her and were plotting agaisnt the boss, it was quite funny!

This show might be exactly what I need right now. I'll have some free time after next week, so I can watch more anime. I hope Kaleido Star keeps delivering like this!

The start of this anime has been so strong, really liked this episode.

Sora learned a lot from this experience and even got the appreciation of one of the young viewers, that autograph n_n

Sora signing her name was a clever scene; she signed it in kana so the child could read it, as a young child can't be expected to know kanji....which all uses a Japanese cultural context that shouldn't exist in an American setting but it was used to show that even when she was being singled out for praise she was thinking about the needs of her audience first.

A good lesson about being a performer is to take in consideration what you expect to deliver to your audience and Sora was able to grasp the idea thanks to Yuri's words. Good

It was a cute episode.
