I was wondering why MAL shows a total of 50 chapters of Citrus manga, and if this counts as Citrus and Citrus Plus in total. Pretty confusing, I should say. I then found the raw source of chapter 41, and as far as I can understand (I can't read Japanese), there's a reference to volume 10 of Citrus being released in October 2018?

I am really confused.
By the way, volume 9 didn't have the usual Citrus +9 stories, that's also a bit strange.

MAL simply includes the side stories, extras and such in the count as well, which is why it's a total of 50 ch. The spin-off (sequel) will probably get its own entry once it starts.

I guess it makes sense after all, especially considering the fact that MAL has 9 more chapters listed in the entry, and there are exactly 9 extra chapters in Citrus (Citrus+ 1, 2, 2.5 etc).

Still wonder what's the deal with October 2018 on the poster and Citrus+ 9 which was never published

October 2018 is simply the date for the release of the final volume (10). Citrus+ is a complete new spin-off (sequel) series that'll revolve around Yuzu and Mei's adventures along with new encounters, which will start upcoming winter.

What's the point of a new volume if the manga is already over?
I may be incorrect because I don't know much about how manga is serialized and published in Japan, but as far as I understand, they will just collect all the chapters that were previously released as standalone ones, in one volume, right? If that's so, then I have no more questions

Wiki

Refer to "Magazines" and "Collected volumes".

Basically, a new chapter of a work will usually be first released in the publisher's (manga) magazine, in this case Ichijinsa's Comic Yuri Hime, which is published monthly. These magazines usually contain new chapter releases of running series, one-shots, and other extra bits.

Publishers will usually compile the most recent couple of chapters in dedicated volumes for the series. Often the chapters collected in volumes are of higher quality, and volumes often contain extras specifically drawn and written for the volumes, such as side stories, omakes, etc. They are sometimes bundled with other extras as well, such as drama CDs, to promote the series and/or to stimulate sales for example.

A long story short, and to give you more of a concise answer to your question - you could think of many reasons why they'd compile chapters into volumes; give the series exposure, to promote sales, give fans the opportunity to support their favorite works, and so on. I think reading the above of how a serialization and the publishing of manga works should give answers to your question as well.

Hopefully that cleared things up for you.
