In commemoration of the series' 50th anniversary, an official website opened for a new TV anime adaptation of Fujio Akatsuka's Tensai Bakabon (The Genius Bakabon) manga on Tuesday. Titled Shinya! Tensai Bakabon, the fifth anime series in the franchise, will air in a late-night time slot in Summer 2018.

Staff
Director: Tooru Hosokawa (Shirokuma Cafe series composition)
Assistant Director: Takashi Yamamoto (Cuticle Tantei Inaba episode director)
Character Design: Takaaki Wada (Saint Onii-san key animation)
Music Production: Avex Pictures
Sound Director: Hiromi Kikuta (Ballroom e Youkoso)
Studio: Pierrot Plus

Cast
Papa: Arata Furuta (Captain Herlock)
Bakabon: Miyu Irino (Osomatsu-san)
Mama: Noriko Hidaka (InuYasha)
Hajime: Ai Nonaka (Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei)
Honkan: Toshiyuki Morikawa (Saiunkoku Monogatari)
Rerere no Ojisan: Akira Ishida (Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu)
Unagi-inu: Takahiro Sakurai (Fune wo Amu)

Tensai Bakabon ran for 38 volumes in Weekly Shounen Magazine between 1967 and 1992. The series revolves around the comedic shenanigans that happens in Bakabon's household. The manga inspired four TV anime adaptations: the earlier series were produced by Tokyo Movie Shinsha in the 70s, while the later 90s adaptations were produced by Studio Pierrot.

EHHHH... Not a big fan of Osomatsu-san to be completely honest so I MIGHT potentially skip this time. Then again, who knows. The staff looks competent though.

This manga is old as hell, can this hold up, I know Osomatsu-san held up because it had a prequel in the 80's and it was changed a bit for fujo appeal, but this doesn't have that, there was one throwback that aired that reeked of an anime of it's time.

Ok, I don't want it to go do far, so: Tensai Bakabon isn't neither Osomatsu-kun, nor Osomatsu-san. It just has the same creator. But it is NOT the same. Actually, I think Bakabon is better. Well, I can't tell how this new version is going to turn out... But judging by older versions (which I watched even though I don't know Japanese and still loved them) and the fact that the new one won't have a time skip, it's going to be worth watching.

Ah no I'm not trying to say they're the same... I guess I worded this very poorly. It's just that I wasn't so convinced over Osomatsu-san and since it is by the same creator it didn't gave me much of a good impression.

I MIGHT skip it, buuuuuuut I think I'll give it at least a shot. Who knows. The staff seems promising though ngl. That's what I'll say.

So instead of Osomatsu-san 3rd season, this will be aired instead? Like Osomatsu-san series, I might ended up watching this because of these two (D.N.Angel) even though I've never read the manga nor watched original anime. I like that Miyu-Miyu got the main role (I think? Because his role is on the title, too).

Oh, okay!
Also, if it's only about Osomatsu-san, then don't worry. Tensai Bakabon has the same creator as Osomatsu-kun. Osomatsu-san is based on Osomatsu-kun but only that, -san is totally different. And it seems like the new Bakabon is going to be similar to the original one.
And one more thing: I hope I don't sound like I'm desperately trying to convince you to watch it. Because I don't! It's just that I know what people think of OsoSan so I don't want them to think Tensai Bakabon is going to be the same. Because I doubt it.
Well, now I'll better shut up!

Oh it's fine! No worries! I can completely understand where you're coming from and why you were trying to reply, it's more of a clarification if anything. So I do appreciate that in all honesty ^^ I don't think you were trying to convince me, you were just trying to clarify if I got something wrong which is fine really xP Hehe.

But I'll give it a try. I think its more of me having a bad taste in my mouth with Osomatsu but I shouldn't always judge series based on its creator alone (well... I did that with Inuyashiki but that's a different story xsx)

Major props to the youtubers subbing the 1999 version. I hope they finish in time for the remake's airing so I can better appreciate the characters.

Wow this look nice... Remind me a lot of Osomatsu-San. And Takahiro Sakurai and Miyu Irino will be here too.

Unlike Osomatsu-kun, I'm pretty much lucky to have watched Tensai Bakabon as a kid at local TV station.

Definetly checking this out. I think this will be the same as the last time I've checked this, not likely to be changed too much like Osomatsu-kun to Osomatsu-san.

Edit: Now I've realized those eyes....

This reminded me of Osomatsu san too. Miyu Irino, Sakurai Takahiro and Ishida Akira will participate too so I think I'll try it out. I wonder if there's gonna be another Osomatsu san season or not lol.

Anyway I hope the comedy is just as good!
