From the opening and episode we can see that we will be working with a small cast, while the original had more than 20 characters all with interesting abilities.

In here on the other hand we work with 8, and the villains (at least 7) helping what seems to be Nobunaga who escaped dead.

Of the 8 protagonist 2 are the reincarnations of Oboro and Gennosuke, leaving us with the 6 kids to put on the fights, however...

Only 2 of those 6 are interesting on the Basilisk sense, the Kouga boy who can detach his eyes, and the Iga girl that uses illusions.

The rest are incredibly lame:

We have what seems to be an Iga boy who manipulates insects, using animals was a stapple of the Iga's on the prequel and it never delivered.

A Kouga girl which smell from her tears make people horny, that would work better if she was older (the opening reveals them as older characters, so time-skip will happen at one point thankfully, it also seems that the clans will fight each other again) and could engage on some classic kunoichi assassination, however no one on the enemy side seems to fill the role of the sucker that gets seduced, apart from their leader, and the 2 females.

And finally we have the worst of it all, a kid with armor, and a girl with a gun, whatever happened to shooting your own blood or becoming a liquid, having 4 arms, or being a snake!? these last 2 don't fit neither clan, let alone in the series.

Well, the character designs are too lame they feel like they were taken from some random Deviant art user, and the budget is too low I know Youtubers who make videos with higher quality.
This show feels like a freaking fan fiction of the original Basilisk.

I'm still giving it a chance though, hope it gets better.

You're completely right. The original series made sure that we cared for the characters (or that we despised them, if that was the case), so that we were involved with them and felt their demise. The presente series does nothing of that, they just present the characters and make them fight, and that's it. Zero involvement. This make this series a chore to watch, unlike the original one.
