I think the concept was well made, but the execution less so. It threw at us a lot of themes that just went unexplored. Like many, the first episode made me think it would be about neglected senior citizens and ill folk, but nope, Inuyashiki was just neglected by his family because they take him for granted. He saves a bunch of people on live TV and suddenly they feel like he is family again... It wasn't very convincing.

Shishigami was a well-depicted character in my opinion. In fact, I felt there was too much attention on him, what with his progress from "kid eager to test his god powers" to "kid with a vengeance because the police shot my homies when I raked up 4-stars from killing random NPCs". Inuyashiki hardly got anything in comparison.

Also, I liked how the story only gave them one showdown instead of the bajillion recurring duels that shonen protags and antags often do (*ahem*Inuyasha*ahem*). But the build-up was just so poor that I wasn't sure what I should feel when it happened.

All-in-all, 6/10. Great concept and good characters ruined by poor storytelling. If people asked me to describe 'wasted potential', this is my foremost example.

Predictable ending, but emotional nonetheless. Also, before anyone calls it out, Hiro sacrificing himself made sense because he was only doing it to save the few people that did matter to him. It's not like he had a sudden change of heart towards humanity. If anything, it shows how deep his love runs for Shion and Chokko if saving them meant having to sacrifice himself for the rest of mankind that he hated so much.

8/10 for me.

Between having experience of reading Hen, Gantz and now this Hiroya Oku writes some non-typical stuff which is a nice break from all the other common stuff but he never knows how to end them properly.

Out of all them I still enjoyed Gantz more since the world was set up so good but he never did much with it after, some plot threads were dropped completely. Some post-manga Gantz readers still wake up in cold sweats screaming "WTF was the point of those vampires?".

Inuyashiki didn't do much for me though it was nice to see an old man as the protag, past episode 1 there wasn't much hint into the aliens anymore and Hiro was kind of a dull villain in comparison to the whackjobs in Gantz. The ending was rushed, this seems to be common with his works but Inuyashiki didn't really has much else going for it before hand so whatever. 6/10. The OP and ED themes was solid at least.

So after the last episode I realised there may be some meaning to Hiro's name.
The anime is called Inuyashiki the last Hero and Hiro is pronounced similar to hero.
Since in the end Hiro chose to die as a hero, maybe the name was not only a coincidence...

Was her winning the manga contest suppose to make it a happy ending just seconds after seeing Inuyashiki, Shishigami, and Inuyashiki's son all die? Sad as fuck ending.

Enjoyment wise id give it a 10/10.
Criticizing it on all fields id give it an 9/10, especially due to heavy emotional scenes like the whole first episode, Mari dying but then comes which I did not see coming, I was convinced Mari was dead.
Fucking loved this anime.

That trump cameo though, he even called everyone losers, very fitting to the character.

Final episode was way too damn rushed. Easily could have fixed that with being 12 episodes, but most noitamina shows apparently have to be 11 episodes for some fucking stupid reason. At the very least they could have skipped the opening so we could have those extra 90 seconds for the ending.

The series was fairly enjoyable and had some intense episodes, but I definitely wouldn't put it in my top shows of the season.

My feelings for this are all over the place. The first episode was the best episode to me. It had a lot of ups and downs after that. The ending felt very rushed and left me disappointed. Wish it had a couple more episodes to make the pacing better. The crying faces were so terrible and would ruin whatever scene they were used in.

I absolutely loved this series,i think it was the best 2017 series + one of my mew faves?
I dont really understand why and nor do i want to understand why people dont like this show,i think it was super good.
The beautiful detailed characters, very entertaining fight/action,and then just the unique amazing story.
I was really sad to see Inuyashiki and shishigami both go but i guess they did what they had to do :((
This show had me in tears, laughter, and cringeness on how stupid i thought it was at first aha but im glad i watched it!

Also, the part where Donald Trump is on the news and acts like a ignorant fool was so damn accurate i couldnt stop laughing ;D

That scene in the beginning teared me up...
Overall, a really simple, kinda melodramatic anime that didn't do anything really groundbreaking for me, but a good time. 6/10
And holy shit, that Trump cameo was too accurate; the studio even imitated the way Trump TALKED, down to his voice.

I don't understand why people think this ending is predictable...like, at all. I don't see how anybody could've possibly predicted Hiro actually becomes a hero in the end, and Inuyashiki dies. A predictable ending would've been Hiro getting arrested or killed, while Inuyashiki gets a happy ending.

@Crossburn

I agree with you. I felt it would've been so much more interesting if Inuyashiki's own life with his family was explored in way more depth, than just the 1st ep.
I hate how anime like Fate/Stay Night have the protagonists and antagonists fight then retreat, fight then retreat, rinse and repeat, I just end up asking myself how they haven't killed each other yet.

@Jacob_Chimera Thats pretty much my only or biggest problem with the show, how bad some of the important stuff is conveyed. At least from what I got from the first episode Inuyashiki could almost be considered a victim of domestic abuse.Hell, he was trying his hardest to make a living for them and was only met with Ingratitude and them being embarassed about having an old and poor dad.He was feeling so not at place in his home that when he discovered he had cancer he went for a walk with his dog at the park instead of staying with his family. I felt that all of this was completely overlooked in the rest of the anime, specially when that was the introduction of the first episode.
I can see why you can enjoy the show though, I didnt actually hate it or anything, I even finished watching it, its one hell of a premise and it is definitely a new outlook. Now a days most media is on the perspective of kids or young adults, with old people being the vilains. In this show we see a lot of the hardships of the older population and the worst sides of the younger. That old bum in the park being attacked by that gang and those school kinds being bullys in the train were really cool scenes to me.I do feel bad that the anime deviated from this later but its still deservers the credit.

The show did kind of skip over developing Inuyashiki's family, heck, even the manga saves their development for the second half, so it is a little underwhelming when they're finally brought into the story. I honestly wish the stuff with Mari had happened earlier because her character arch almost feels like an after thought in this.

Just as you pointed out, I also like that an older character is the protagonist. So many movies, shows, and books from all over the world focus on nothing but teenagers, so it's really cool when someone makes the main character a middle or late age adult. Inuyashiki kind of had the focus pulled away from him in the middle with Hiro getting most of the attention for a few of the episodes, which was a bit disappointing, but the ending brought the attention back to the hero of the story, which was nice.

I don't think Hiro is a hero, since even in the end, he sacrificed himself to save the few people he loved, and probably also to escape the harsh reality that the same people have all severed ties with him.

OH BOY WE GOT FREAKING DONALD TRUMP IN ANIME NOW. And they freaking nailed him too, he's making anime great again. They also nailed the way dogs trip sometimes and recover almost instantly. I figured they would both sacrifice themselves to save the earth, thought they'd do it together though. And with that, this anime comes to an end.

And now for my score. I''m going with an 8/10, a damn cool ride from start to finish and one hell of an experience, though a bit flawed in my opinion by how over the top things got towards the end, but only a bit. I wasn't bothered by the CG at all, it was extremely noticeable, but it did it's job fine, and didn't look like garbage.

I don't know how to feel about the ending. It just seems sort of rushed. The meteor almost seemed like it came out of nowhere even though its presence was hinted several episodes ago. Perhaps that element should have been more central to the plot?

Regardless I'll give it an 8/10 for now. It had some touching and suspenseful moments that kept me interested, plus I liked the current pop culture references it used that makes the series seem like it's in the same world as our own (Trump LOL!). The OP was great, although the animation quality lowered significantly during the last couple of episodes.

Wow uhhh looks like people either hated it or loved it. I personally loved it. To me this anime overall was able to cause me to feel a range of raw emotions due to the MC and antagonist going through some shit. Depressing shit. Yeah the asteroid was kinda outta shot out then forgotten then mentioned again at the end but overall the story conveyed the raw emotion of death, life, terror, sadness, happiness, and joy. That moment when Mari coughed was joy. That part where the dog scratched on the door and then fell down the stairs in his rush down was sad. That part where the airplanes were all coming down - or the sheer psychopath terror of watching the whole family killed in each room, or the tragedy of having cancer and your family not caring-

In regards to Hiro acting out of character- I honestly think it was a human aspect to it. People don't commit evil acts out of randomness. There is a logic to it. In addition if he didn't randomly latch on to helping people to gain his classmate's and grandma's approval- why even bother saving the earth in the first place? He already said he was gonna kill everyone in the country lol. Thieves have codes, and so does Hiro. Obviously it's twisted but it still makes sense to him.

This show in the end was about humanity. About being human. And it makes sense that it would confront it the most when the two main characters had it taken away from them.

FUCK! Idk how to feel about that ending, but ohmygod the fucking feels! As much as I wanted a happy ending, this was a great ending for Inuyashiki, though it was so fucking sad.

Inuyashiki-san's family saw him on TV that he was that MIRACLE. He's the same Inuyashiki-san. Gaaaaah. I was scared for a sec there that the Inuyashiki-san we knew was not the real Inuyashiki-san. Glad his wife was there to make sure it's really him. My fucking heart.

Jesus. Hiro scared the fuck outta me when he was there in front of Andou in his room. Waaaah. But yeah Hiro was there to like change and he still looks at Andou as his friend. Hiro really is scared of Inuyashiki-san and yeah Inuyashiki-san is much more powerful than him. Hehe.

Hiro is still a human being who made the most fucked up choices. He still cares for that old lady and Shion. He self-detonated for the sake of them both.

Fucking sucks that an asteroid was the end of them both. I sincerely wanted to know more about those aliens who made them into a cyborg, tbh. (If they were really aliens lmao) I felt so empty not knowing about them. Hilarious that Trump appeared there and they still made him look like an ass. Hahahahaha! My fucking stomach.

WHERE THE FUCK IS NASA!?!?! I MEAN BRUCE WILLIS AND HIS GANG CAN DO SOMETHING ABOUT THAT FREAKING ASTEROID! HOW COME NOBODY CALLED BRUCE WILLIS, BEN AFFLECK, AND HIS GANG FOR HELP!?! FUCK THIS SHOW! Hahahahaha!

Probably, they were made for this. To self-detonate and save the earth, but STILL WHERE THE FUCK IS BRUCE WILLIS AND HIS GANG!2ZLMNEBKASHBGFASIBGSDG!

All kidding aside, I thought this was a beautiful ending and it was satiating, but yeah it's too sad for me. I cried so much when that precious inu chased after Inuyashiki-san. ;-; Poor Inuyashiki-san's family, poor Andou, poor Shion. But I hope them two will be the hero of the world. As much as I hated Hiro, he still saved the earth and I think it pays for the horrendous acts he did.

Lastly, so happy for Mari that she won! WAAAAAH. I guess the legacy of Inuyashiki-san lives on with her manga. Huhu my fucking heart. I'm going to miss this anime so much. I love love love this show so much! :)

5/5 for this episode, and 9/10 for the entire series. <3

Definitely the AOTS for me! :)

Even though the ending was predictable, I really enjoyed this anime. One of the best this year for me. OST was on point too.

I major lol'ed at Trump though, and the way he spoke was imitated quite well.
But the sudden change of heart in certain characters still don't sit well with me. It's a very human thing but hypocritical. And I'm standing by with what I said in the ep 1 discussion, it was refreshing to see an elder character be the star.

I like dogs! Seeing them get hurt makes me upset, but seeing the creator of this hurt a dog to evoke a contrived response in the audience just makes me angry. Everything in that scene was so wrong so that dog thing felt totally out of place.

I can't help but feel cynical towards this show after wasting 10 episodes on it.

I would have given this show a 10 if hiro had killed the fucking dog, rest of inuyashikis family, and the whole fucking world leaving the geezer alone with him. Then they would fuck the brains out of each other and finally self destruct blowing up this planet .

The pacing was too fast. There could be a bit more emotion in the last episode, but it's fine as is.

Felt sad for both Inuyashiki and Hiro. They both accepted their "fate."

One who lived his whole life as an unremarkable person finally found meaning in his life.

The other, almost driven to madness by what happened to him, proved that the veil between good and evil can really be thin. Hiro was quite a "chaotic" character, unpredictable at times.

Overall, a fitting closure.

" I felt like riding rollercoaster of emotion"

There are so much meaning of life showed in this series, even someone who almost had no emotion at all (hiro) still had person that he loved and he cared.
Even when you feel like you have no meaning to be alive, you still had believed that you can do anything right (inuyashiki)
I really like that they inserting some reference to gantz(the author also the one who make gantz), MWAM (the OP singer), and Qaijff( the ED singer)
and they also inserting some fresh breaker like funny scene when mari following inuyashiki and andou, and the "trump" thing LOL

the conclusion, i really enjoyed this series to the best, a lot of emotion poured in it, laugh,cry,surprised,etc.. everything in it.
Thank you Hiroya Oku-sensei who made this masterpiece( and gantz too XD)

I'm glad to see Inuyashiki's family bonding here. The ending is pretty rush and predictable to me. However,it's good to see a glimpse of what happened to Inuyashiki's family after his sacrifice to save the world . His son finally fight back his bullies and Mari won the manga award.
Hiro came back to Chokko/Ando and try to be like what they used to be but even his best friend won't except him too. Well at least he decided to sacrifice for those he loves. ...that trump speech tho.. The ending is little bit anti-climatic but it's fine to me.

Overall, this anime has decent start but rush ending and bit of dragged of story in the middle. I was really enjoyed so much watching this anime from the first until 6th episode and episode 10(mainly because Inuyashiki kicked Hiro ass). Second half of this anime is just so-so to me. At least this anime is faithful to the manga. It got so much potential but it would be great if the not dragged the Hiro killing part too long. I'm still curious about the alien that gave Inuyashiki and Hiro power. It would be great if there are more explanation about them. Hiro is a character I love to hate. Inuyashiki is the character I always cheering on and his actions always gripped my feelings.

It still pretty enjoyable ride. Not great but not too bad. It's a decent anime.
