What are the difference between the novel and the manga? I was debating on reading this or the original novel and decided to read this instead for the aincrad arc then I found out there was a manga for this.

The ln is better, and goes over more content from what I can remember. The manga is as shitty as the anime.
This manga actually looks like it'll cover more content than the LN, since they've been spending ages on the second floor and it's a fresh take on the story by mostly being from Asuna's point of view. Plus this manga is actually going to be in chronological order, unlike the LN, where the author added side stories in, after the fact. So far the only area I find the manga to be noticeably inferior to the LN, is in the tone of the story. The manga just random plants comedy into intense boss fights.

lol...that's why the manga was worse....lol
But so far it's only been an issue on the 2nd floor bosses, which were barely featured in the LN and who knows how the manga handle the rest. And I like how the manga is fixing some minor issues I've had, like by getting into Asuna's head and by not making Kibaou a complete asshole

Haven't read the Progressive novels as yet, but after 21 chapters into this manga, I am a little bit shocked at how much the characters' personalities have changed from the original SAO novels. And not in a good way.

I understand some changes were needed if Asuna and Kirito were going to meet this early in Aincrad, but their interactions just don't seem authentic to SAO. Suddenly she's a tsundere and he's a bit of a creep? It makes no sense. Hopefully the SAOP novels are better than this manga.

Apart from all that the art is pretty good and it's interesting to get the story told in a floor-by-floor format. I could do without the fanservice, though.

I actually enjoy the change, I personally think that it gives them more personality than their "original" selves.

Also, Asuna was a tsundere at the start of SAO. Its just that in this manga (and maybe the novels), the Asuna and Kirito that (at least I) hoped for actually comes to fruition. An epic badass duo/ couple with great chemistry.

I enjoyed the original SAO, but I ACTUALLY (might) love SAO Progressive.

I was what I wanted from the original series, and it was what I got.
