No, I mean 15 episodes. The last episode (the 13th episode) will be 1-hour long, so it's like there are 2 more episodes. 13 (+ 14 + 15)= 20 min. (+ 20 min. + 20 min.)= 60 minutes

You're forgetting the commercial breaks. A regular anime episode has a 30 minute time slot (24 minute episode + 6 minute commercials). The final episode has a 1 hour time slot (48 minute episode + 12 minute commercials).

I was voluntarily spoiled the backstory on Mitty last week or so, one of the most hard hitting sequences I've ever read, split on whether I should/shouldn't have done

This episode itself was pretty much buildup but was still one of the most enjoyable so far.

Too bad that we lost 5+ minutes for the ending of previous episode and opening.

Oh, well. At least Riko is going to live.

Nanachi is fun to watch.

I can't stop thinking about how beautiful this series is, mainly the backgrounds and environments. I could stare at that shit all day. I also can't stop thinking that it's kind of funny how mature this series actually is often, like with the disgusting pants soaked with pee blood, despite how childish it looks from the outside.

Anyway, I have a problem with this recapping the intro lately. This is reminding me of how One Piece does it, and I never liked it. Wastes good minutes imo. Well, back on topic, forgot what that thing is called. Mitty? I looked like it somehow knew Riko. For a moment I thought it was gonna try and eat her or something. lol

QFT

With the recap, intro, ending ... feels like we get 15 minutes tops of actual MIA. Hard to wait a week between!

Mitty wants to send off Nanachi with Regu and Riko.
Regu saw Riko butt naked, he is the father. XD (and is of people who lives down there)
Also Nanachi is not human anymore, she's bunny girl. Is ascending ineffective for Nanachi now? (How did Ouzen ascend?)
In layer 6, for Regu to take a monster some how to higher altitude, will it kill that monster?
And I had this question from last ep discussion, If Riko had died, do you think placing her in Curse Repelling Vessel would make her alive again?

This show is pretty repetitive. They just go lower and lower into the abyss encountering new monsters and shit while they are at it and meeting new people. Then later departing even lower down the abyss and repeat? Is that all there is to this series?

If this is repetitive then so is the Akatsuki no Yona anime lol.

Luckily, both anime are good though.

https://myanimelist.net/news/52154653 Unless this is wrong, it's an hour long broadcast. So you have to account for commercials. So 2 episodes worth of time for 13.

What this guy said.

1-hour special almost always means 2 episodes in 1.

There are 2-3 commercial breaks per episode iirc, covering a whole 30 minutes slot.

1-hour mean 2 slots of 30 minutes episodes with 4-6 comercial breaks or so (meaning the other 15-20-ish minutes are not spent in the actual episodes' broadcast.

No program in television actually runs for one hour straight unless they are payed movie channels of a sort.

I'm talking about how they don't do anything different other than the things I mentioned in my previous comment. Even scavenging for relics sometimes make everything different. But all they do is go lower, try to survive, rest when they're tired and repeat. 11 episodes in and this anime has yet to leave a strong impression on me.

But with such a story, I guess they don't really have anything else to do. If you think about it, the author is actually pretty lazy.

I regret not picking this up when it first aired. This series is absolutely fantastic. The reason being of not wanting to view this series was the character designs. Here I thought I learned my lesson on not judging a book by it's cover from Puella Magi Madoka Magica. I guess I still have a lot to learn I suppose. This is an easy watch as I was able to catch up within 24 hours (including watching 3 football games)

Anyways, Nanachi is awesome! I'm hoping she joins the others and form a fantastic trio. It felt a little off with having just two kids be the leads, especially if those kids are featured heavily. Hopefully Nanachi's presence will make a fantastic trio, assuming she joins them...It's what I thought with that Ouzen but I was wrong.

Welp, I'm hooked, I can't wait for the next two episodes.

The author is incredibly imaginative. If it's not your cup of tea then it won't float your boat. But many great stories have been told with that exact structure. What you call repetition is what others see as progress, seeing as there isn't an infinite number of layers. We've been learning more and more with each episode, and if you're not invested in it, then that's just unfortunate. Perhaps the manga might be of interest?

I'm not talking about his imagination though. Everyone can imagine things that's more impressive than this. I'm talking about the author's ability to create a more adventurous and fun story that isn't repetitive like this one. You see the plot is interesting. I was actually amazed when I saw the few first episodes. But when they started going lower in the later episodes, I noticed that every episode was basically the same with the exception of new monsters or people and no real or fun adventure in the layers they land on. Heck, not even an ounce of exploring the layer they're in was shown. IIRC, in the first episode Riko was still interested about discovering relics and such. But you don't really see that now. Where did her curiosity go? That curiosity of hers could've led to something fun.

As a anime that proclaimed to be adventure, I find the "adventure" in it seriously lacking. It's like they're so focused on reaching their destination and completely forgets or simply doesn't care about having fun in their journey to it.

Imagining more isn't hard, but making it cohesive is; so in this case not everyone can, but a few. There's no point in more adventuring since there's no more to acquire... but to actually lose; as the longer they stay, the higher the chance of bumping with creatures. Exploring wouldn't be guarantee of finding anything; plus, any watcher (you included) wouldn't want to stick to all their pointless walking around. That curiosity isn't of use.

For there to be more adventure, the protagonists have to be capable of more--of acquiring more, of interacting more with the environment (ex: magic). And the place would have to be richer--with more sentient beings and structures--which it obviously lacks.
It's being written just the way it should; and it's actually being more eventful than realistically would. And the dead time--you know--is already being cut well.

But how sweet is Nanachi! Even Mitty, in her own way, is sweet and her story is sad. The rhythm is slow in the narration, but comedy can, together with the many questions that arise in this episode, compensate for the situation. Very beautiful designs and very catchy soundtrack. I can not wait to see the next episode.

this episodes reminded me again how wonderful the abyss is for a adventure like this.
Even if they eventually reach the bottom, they cant get back (otherwise Lyza would have done it already)
also Regs connection with her ..
AND THAT AMAZING OST
How am I supposed to read the manga without new amazing OST like this?

I disagree with that because I'm seeing quite a bit of exploring in the layers other than the first. Heck, the entire 3rd layer was all about the environment and wandering. If anything, I feel that the anime is moving too SLOW for my taste. Perhaps what you craving is a conflict of sorts?

Awesome episode, when they talked about losing humanity i was expecting something more like dark souls if you ask me.
Nanachi is such a cute furball, i would kill to rub that tummy too.

Mitty is like a "cute" pet, wonder what really happens down there on the 6th layer, and Why Nanachi survived with awesome kawaii effects.
Does anyone else think she likes to be touched? She always try to avoid contact and blushes when she thinks about it, maybe she gets too carried away and that's why she avoids it?

Reg did kind of a bad job with riko's arm, hope Nanachi can fix it up to a good point, those mushrooms will do the trick with the poison but what about the other things? Also it would be nice to understand what reg is in fact.

Also Nanachi seems to be able to see what causes the curse, maybe some kind of ghost?

It is perhaps that. The abyss was described to be a dangerous place that countless people died while exploring it; and yet, seeing these two kids breeze through it like a walk in the park is pretty stupid IMO and makes the danger that the abyss (if there's even any of that) possess hard to take seriously. And when they do get into dangerous situations, Reg just blasts through it with his hand cannon and ta-dah~! With such a slow pacing, why can't they do more from it? I just find the content lacking for an adventure anime.

Exploring does add something fun to the entire anime while making up for the slow pacing instead of showing multiple scenes of Reg grabbing a vine or rock and reeling down onto the next layer. It's not like they have to find something but only explore more things or places that they haven't seen yet with their own eyes and make use of the author's "impressive" imagination. The author created a fun-looking or adventure-filled and mysterious place that is the abyss and it is also incredibly huge, you'd think that it would be filled with fascinating places and such, but so far in the anime, you'd see that the creator doesn't really do anything with it. It's like he only shows us one or two good-looking places from every layer they've been to and that's literally it.

Why make such thing when you're not even going to put more work on it? If the author's imagination is really as impressive as people claim it to be, then why doesn't he delve into such things?

There can be adventure without the protagonists being in too much danger and it is important for them so that they can acquire more experience and knowledge about the place they're in as well as the whatever useful things they can use while traveling. You don't really need magic and such. Brains would be enough. Makes you think on how Hablo isn't a white whistle yet when these two inexperienced kids breezes through the abyss like a walk in the park

The abyss IS rich. It's just the author is too lazy or lacking imagination for showing us just how rich it is. And it is being toned down so our protagonist can survive easily. If not, they how did the people who explored it died? Are they so stupid that they are eaten by monsters or fooled when they hallucinate or maybe every one of them got cursed and turned into a monstrous-looking thing like Mitty?

Going down is the easy part. Even the monsters of the Abyss pale in comparison to the curse. Look at what happened to Riko when she got hit by the curse after only a few meters, now imagine doing that for about a kilometer straight up before you enter the third layer where the effects are a bit more manageable.

It's slightly disappointing that the anime will end at its chosen point, because the exact point where it will end is the point where everything you've just complained about becomes false.

I see. While watching and reading, I was content enough with the atmospheric narrative that the story and world building provided, but the next couple of episodes/chapters was what made me decided the manga belongs in my top 5. If it doesn't pique your interest or satisfy you after that, then it'd be a shame. There'd be nothing left to say except: different strokes for different people, I guess.

But they're going to survive that anyway right? The abyss is not something to take seriously judging from how these two kids are still alive after such a long time.

It's pretty funny when Reg uses his hand cannon to kill a monster then later becoming unconscious and while he's out and it's just Riko carrying him. But you'll notice that when he's asleep there's no monster attacking them and when a monster does attack, he would just suddenly wake up and get rid of it in a flash.

^ Does that happen a lot in the manga? Please tell me it doesn't.

It doesn't happen in the manga at all. In the manga Reg doesn't use the Incinerator in the 3rd layer. The part with Riko carrying him around was completely anime original.

Wasn't it something the author wanted to include but didn't because he had to rush to get to the good stuff (aka nanachi) because of poor sales at the time? I know that it's something the author wanted to make in the manga but idk to what extent.

I really like Nanachi but i hope we'll see the focus being shifted away from her soon. Only 2 episodes left. I hope we can at least see the fifth layer and maybe even a little bit down as seeing fresh new areas could potentially elevate the series quite a bit.
I'm glad the dark stuff has been dealt with and we can finally get back to jolly exploration and worldbuilding now. My guess is that Mitty is probably Reg (as in the dog) and that Bondrewd is actually Riko's father, which would explain why Ozen hates him even though he did nothing wrong.

"Mitty" freaked me out. Even if this was lighter than last week, the show still had to remind us just how crazy fucked up the Curse of the Abyss is. Please tell me that isn't what happened to Lyza.

I do like Nanachi a lot.

@Cabyou

It was in the beginning of the episode, when Nanachi was observing them--a past memory of her was shown.

Just finished watching every episode from the beginning. It's been a hell of a ride and i'm ready for the rest of the episodes before the series ends.

It's such a shame there's only 3 episodes worth of this show left.. feels like it should be much longer. I'm not ready to leave this world just yet :/ Amazing visuals aside, I am loving the sound design and score. That retro 80s type synth they started using since we were introduced to Ouzen is just epic.

This series just keeps on getting darker and darker...

I gotta save some light comedy anime series to watch after this series for balance...

Otherwise I just end up curling in a small ball covering my eyes while watching this series.

I've been watching Monster for the first time alongside this show. This is my feel good anime to balance out monster xD

What a coincidence considering both Made in Abyss and Monster share the same director; Masayuki Kojima. Starting to wonder if I should pick up Monster at some stage if it'll immerse me in the same way Made in Abyss has.
Bondrewd did nothing wrong.

Wow. I had no idea. I am fully immersed in Monster now, typing in between episodes at the moment. It's one I've put off for a while due to it's length and an apparently slow pace, but I am really glad I decided to give it a go. Only 6 episodes deep and I feel like this could easily become an all time favourite.

PS. Sorry to steer off topic guys

Regu getting all flustered over a suppository insert in Riko's ass. Nanachi is a great surgeon, I guess she's used to patching up everyone else's fuck ups.

Awww poor Mitty :( At least Nanachi turned into an intelligent and cute bunny surgeon but Mitty turned into something Shou Tucker would create out of his daughter and dog.

I love how Regu is panicking like a little bitch and Nanachi's collected and calm, like, "pfft, newb."

Those shrooms seem awesome, they're parasitic but save the host.

Those pee-blood stained shorts though, ew.

Nanachi's personality is pretty enjoyable.

So she has a link with Bondrewd, interesting... poor Mitty though...

If this is repetitive then so is the Akatsuki no Yona anime lol.

You might as well say every story or anime in the world follows a pattern and is therefore boringly repetitive and that the authors of all stories are lazy.

Boku no hero acedamia? Steins;Gate? FMA Brotherhood? You can break them all down to commonly used patterns.

lmao.
