I really don't get it anymore. She is a burden on him and the story as well. Just a lazy plot device for conflict really. I think with guts' personality he would be inclined to put her out of her misery before dragging her along like he is. Is there something the anime is leaving out that explains it in any way?

Guts' character fell in love out of a need to be loved.
Casca's character was ravaged to not love anymore.

Fall in love and you'l understand OP.
Lie until what you want to be true becomes truth. Lie until you can't remember what's a lie and what isn't.  Lie until you aren't lying anymore!

Because he loves her and wants to find a way to bring her old self back.

Like many people pointed out he loves her and although she's surely gonna slow him down, that's the character development from the Dawn to nowadays, he still wants revenge but is not as blind as he was before and through it he's matured.

thanks for the responses guys. Believe me, I have loved hard before and I still find it hard to rationalize holding on to someone who seems to be brain dead and a huge danger that's all.. Maybe I am heartless idk. I figured something had to be lost in translation and yes I've seen all previous seasons. Even the OG dub where like every other NPC voice was goku's voice lol. I guess I'll either have to read or bear with my inability to understand. thanks again for the quick replies.

He deeply cares for her and hopes to restore her sanity one day. I mean, that's pretty much it. Even if she's terrified and hates him, he's still not going to abandon her. However, with these new episodes, it's shown how his inner desire for revenge desperately wants him to abandon her. The conflict is still there.

He loves her, and if he lets her alone he wouldn't be sure that she is safe.

So we can get more attempted rape scenes. No Casca no fun. Also tits.

Casca isn't the only fun one. Farnese brought us rape horse.

All female characters gives us that greatness. Without it Berserk is only worth half as much.
