A dance studio? Hmm...

Odd start so far but I'm kinda liking it. Fun start so far. Seems like the manga is taking dancing to a whole new level and the main girl is embracing it.

@Stark700
Why didn't you name the thread Chapter 1? It's completely out now so this 1/1.2 stuff is not necessary. Also, I don't see the point opening a thread while only half of the chapter is available.

I love the artwork, it's gorgeous, especially the dance movements. Sengoku somehow reminds me of Takamura from Hajime no Ippo. He saved Tatara from bullies, and he put him under a test before approving him as a student because he felt Tatara looked down on him. And he has this arrogant attitude too. Well, we will see it later.
I'm looking forward to reading more of this, though I don't think the scanlation will be too quick.

The main character's determination to not tell the bullies about the dance studio was such a cliche I cringed. The "I blurt out exact opposite of what I was thinking" made me cringe too. This is what's so wrong with recent manga and readers, none of them have enough patience for smoother development. I thought that it might be better to use at least 3 chapters for that. I wish the art could be cleaner, intensity could be shown in another way.

The
"Look"
panel was quite powerful.

Edit: I wrote the comment before I read everything in this chapter, but whoa, more development in the ballroom, that could have used it's own chapter.. -.- The mangaka really need to slow it down.. There is also the cliche "Girl laugh at something" in this case laughing harmlessly at the main guy puking, like.. is THAT even funny? Jeez.

I think this is a solid intro! I was instantly impressed by the gorgeous art! Ballroom dancing is truly an art. <3 As someone who has experience in ballroom dancing, it gave me such a nostalgic feeling when I saw the dancers' postures, both when they danced with an invisible partner (that's what my teacher called it ^^) and with someone else. The box step in waltz and the right-left-right move are great ways to begin! :)

I like that it was easy to relate to Fujita. It's common for people to not know what they want to do in the future, yet we're all pressured to think of that... Even though Fujita was pulled into the Ogasawara Ballroom Studio involuntarily, I'm happy he gave ballroom a chance.

I don't like that Sengoku instantly associated Shizuku being "touchy" to his assumption that she "Must be on her period." :/ I do not see the correlation whatsoever. That was not funny.

That DVD of Sengoku dancing at the competition was very mesmerizing! I love the way the author, Tomo Takeuchi, drew Fujita's infatuation to ballroom dancing: they all said "Look at me" and "You will look at me." <3 The dancers were all charismatic. :)

It was unfortunate that the teachers at school spoke about ballroom dancing negatively... :/ Some people view ballroom dancing as an excuse to touch someone else, therefore it is inappropriate. But that's actually not true at all - ballroom dancing allows people to be in-sync and to be in harmony. It's a different form of communication with someone else. It's a graceful sport. It really is unfortunate that people fail to see its wonderful qualities...

I didn't quite understand why the bullies had their heads shaved... Did the place they went to call the cops on them? If so, why? What exactly did Sengoku do to them, indirectly? :c It's good that Fujita chose to protect his new acquaintances, but I didn't want to see him getting beaten... ><

I like that Fujita is determined with ballroom dancing! Dancing until sunrise without even noticing the time passing...he really is dedicated to it. ^^ I think anyone would be touched by his efforts. LOL to the slippery floor due to Fujita's sweat...and R.I.P. to those dance shoes. :P

I think Shizuku laughed after Fujita puked because of how amazed she is by him - he is a peculiar beginner. People normally take breaks or may even give up, instead of dance the whole night... ^^ I hope Sengoku proves to be a good teacher later on! It would be an extra bonus if Fujita receives a greater discount on his dance classes.

I hope that with the more confidence Fujita gains, he'll handle the bullies better. Maybe we'll see Fujita walking with his chin up from now on, instead of slouching. I truly look forward to seeing Fujita's development both in character and dancing, and when he competes! :)

Well I know enough not to drop something from its first chapter, but this one made me get really close to that. Every character looked like an asshole, and this guy only got somehow along with them just because he's some weird masochist.

The pro dancer acted like a jerkass the whole time, and don't give me that crap about tests of strength, because this was frankly ridiculous. If a little kid saying somewhat carelessly but with admiration that he wants to become like you pisses you off to the point of basically trying to force him to quit, you don't deserve to be in a teaching position. And the gag about him not wanting to apologize about the bill would have been funny on another character, but for him it just hyped how much of a jerk he is.

The woman was a jerk, because she was just trying to get some money out of him, and even went into his personal belongings.

The girl was a jerk because she assumed things rudely of a complete stranger, and basically showed the mentality "if you don't do it for super-real like I do, then you're worthless". Hello? That's the point of that studio, certainly not raising pros. Her laughing at the puke and the overnight training doesn't make her look cute, she looks like a sociopath. But we're supposed to believe that she was in the right all along.

All because this guy is a wimp. He's more of a wimp when he "wants to change", than when he doesn't. Now I'm sure all will go well because he'll be talented or stuff like that, and he'll form great bonds with the others. It just means he'll become another asshole.

Well, let's give it the benefit of the doubt and see how it develops from here. But, in my opinion of course, terrible character writing in this first chapter.

So let me get this straight: the manga starts the same way as Chihayafuru, that is with giving us a glimpse of Tatara's future, right? Where he's dancing in the finals of the All-England championship tournament. His partner is Shizuku, I take it? Is he a pro at that point or still amateur, what do you think? (and where's Kiyoharu...) From what I googled, Blackpool has a Dance festival that has both Amateur and Pro divisions, the same with All-England Championship, it has all kinds of divisions both for amateurs and pros.
