| This show understandably is flawed to many people, but the one thing that I think desert punk is unique is the main character is a scumbag and unlike the discrepancy between the viewer and the fictional characters (e.g. trigun) even the fictional characters hate his guts. It also adds a lot of realism into the flaws of human nature and the merit of those traits in a ruthless desert landscape. The last part perfectly illustrates this. Punk gets his revenge on striker by selling him off to a pervert whilst leaving the child thieves alone. In his own 'warped' sense of morals, he sees no problem selling kids off as slaves, with the justification that their lives are at least saved. When Punk sees that the kids are perfectly capable of scraping out a living in the desert, he no longer has any desire to haul them back to the town. Despite the fact that if you believe his words are his truth, he should've sold off the kids in a heartbeat. This makes him very different to Rain Spider and he certainly shares that similarity with the Machine Gun Brothers who are ready save Punk, their competitor but have no qualms stealing from him at every chance. |
