| I don't understand why some of the authors of one shots leave them like this? Like they leave them with open ended endings and that is fine in a longer work where both setting and characters have been established, the reader can become attached to these people and places, get an idea about these people, and some moral or emotional lesson or sympathy can be derived from the work by the reader, but a one shot leaves no time for these things to happen. So, leaving it open ended just makes the story feel incomplete and like it had no real plot or development. It just seems like they had a thin rope that looked like it was tied in a knot, but was really just a kink that made it seemed like a knot, so when you pull on it, it just falls apart and the rope becomes taught, like nothing was really there in the first place. Like it just completely lacked a narrative. Very disappointing. |
