THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Eh it was okay, felt more like an anime aimed at younger audience. The animation quality imo feels kind mediocre though.

Maka and Wari seems to have some decent character chemistry in this The story has some surprisingly serious moments as when there's an accident on soccer field. The time travel gimmick made the episode slightly more interesting but I'm not sold on it yet.

Pretty cute first episode, well after that unexpectedly serious cardiac arrest incident anyway. XD Likin' Mari already, and I like that she has a kind/caring mom who's not dead...so naturally her dad's missing. XD The reaction to Mari's outfit in 1600 England was cute too, and I appreciated that they even attempted to address the language barrier. I wonder how Waka and her brother might get Mari home, and if her dad really was there before. Oh, and cute educational style next episode preview too. XD

Maybe the best new anime I've seen since Shirobako ended. It's already avoided the biggest plot hole in Steins;Gate—the grandfather paradox—by having the main character be too uninformed to know the answers to all questions. Not to mention that it didn't milk the tragedy with Futa for drama points...

Yamasaki Osamu has done a great job editing down the story to what is relevant. I only hope that the series will continue to be of this quality.

I really enjoyed that 'I'm speaking English? Aren't you speaking Japanese?' moment haha.

Mari can't possibly be this cute while wearing 16th century clothing.

I never expected commtio cordis in an anime.....

As an anime, it's only just OK, but, like, it makes the science nerd part of me so ridiculously happy.

Is this the anime version of the Magic School Bus?

I mean it's a relatively fast paced, educational children's show with schoolgirl(s) that go back in time and end up meeting top gentlemen in the process.
(Though perhaps a little too nonchalant with emotions at times...)
Is that your preferred drink or are you open to anything?

Someone almost died the first episode lolol.

Cute, simple and education.
Though, having taken physics, I chuckled when they didn't know why the compass points "north".

Edit: Went back and read the synopsis, it's originally by an educator? Although moe-ified, I think I'll like this.

Is that what it was? I was sure it wasn't something made up, but didn't know what it was called. I mean considering that it's about historical figures and science, they wouldn't put anything too exaggerated in the anime right...that baseball must've hit in the exact right place and was also a really hard hit.

But yeah, it was cute, reminds me of Magic Tree House, actually. And the book taking you to the past reminded me of Fushigi Yuugi. I'm always up for educational things as well, I sure don't know everything and honestly I don't remember learning about William Gilbert in history...

I'm actually really liking the whole time-travel to important events/people thing. It reminds me of those Magic Tree house books I use to read as a kid, so it feels nostalgic in a way :P It may seem like a kid show, but it's caught my attention XD

It already taught me something: Gilbert's name.
I wasn't expecting a little "mystery/conspiration" story behind the time visits and educational elements.

At first, I smiled at the heroin's difficulty to give the cause of the magnetism then I realized she was only a middle-school student. Just enough to not be totally ignorant but prevent any heavy timeline modification.

3/5 I am not a fan of the japanese characters drawing style but it feels good to try something like this (I am curious even if it's clearly not aimed at me).

Editing down the story? Was that based on a fiction book? I thought it was based on some educative book and the anime added the fiction part.

edit: I thought WAO World was unknown to me but they made the family series set in the 60s! (always wanted to watch this anime since I saw a NHK report about it)

I did not expect a character to almost die in this first episode.

But yeah, I think it's very interesting how this show revolves around science. Kinda refreshing. Hopefully it'll be educational for the people that don't know much about science.

I like the attention to detail like when the lady calls Mari out for wearing such a 'shameful' outfit. I was pleasantly surprised when Mari said she knew why a compass always points north (as the show established she's kind of an idiot in the beginning) and then she admits she doesn't actually know and I'm like "...seriously?", oh well I did expect her to be ignorant but it still hurts to watch.

Also among all the inventors/philosophers showed in the opening I didn't see Nikola Tesla, poor Tesla gets no love :(
(yet they showed Thomas Edison so maybe he might show up after all?)

I came into this anime expecting it to be trash. The intro didn't help change my mind at all, in fact, I thought a bit worse of it after. Can safely say I was surprised when someone was NEARLY KILLED BY A FREAKING BASEBALL. WHAT THE HECK I DIDN'T COME HERE FOR THIS. The gifs I saw on Tumblr were a lie. Despite this, I did find this anime enjoyable, and quite interesting. And thanks to my super low expectations, I probably enjoyed this more than I should have.

Aimed a bit young, but so far so good none the less. I mean, seriously, it did a far better job making a believable time/world traveling character than 99% of shows do.

Alright introductory episode, though I feel the characters took a backseat to the story (not that that's a bad thing).

I like the use of the historical characters here, and the way the non-fiction aspects of the source material have been incorporated. Hopefully we'll find out more about Mari's father and his connection to the whole thing in the next episode.

Why compas always pointing to north ? it's obvious. because of magnetic feilds. more spesifically, because of earth magnetic feild which is pointing to the sun.....if i'm not wrong. thus why compas always pointing to north, or more like why compass always pointing to the sun.

overall, it was pretty entertaining imo xD nothing impressive but it's entertaining for me personally.

When you learn enough real tested practical physics, you learn that gravity plays a minor role in the universe. Also most shows that use "gravity" as a technology or whatever, are depicted in a way only diamagnetism can imitate, and this is concrete. No speculations, no assumptions, just experimentation. (Although you could postulate that gravity is diamagnetism, but that's not proven yet)

Learn how the famous old electrical engineers defined electricity. They refer to dielectricity (plasma physicists just call it electricity), magnetism (sometimes confused as diamagnetism), and electrification (what we call electromagnetism today - this is the shaped field we see, the one with polarity, strong effects, and complex shape; in active/electro magnets and suspended/permanent magnets)... The mishandling of terms confuses a lot of people. But once you do, a clear picture of how everything works will present itself to you.

I'm curious to see how accurate the show is.

Refreshing to see an anime use time manipulation to tour history instead of puttering around the modern era. Sure, I've seen plenty of that in classic Doctor Who, but not in anime. (Doctor Who was originally sold as an educational show.)

Disappointing that even though an educator wrote the source material, it looks like Edison still has his traditional hero role, while Tesla will most likely be ignored.

Strange that the location is "What is now London, England," since London had been called London for centuries already by the 1500s. See this 1593 map of London with "London" written at the top.

That was actually pretty good. It felt more like an American Saturday morning cartoon than an anime.

Not a huge fan of the characters designs, especially the males. Mari and Waka are cute though.

Had some decent jokes, and the educational bits were fun.

Was really hoping to not add another show to the weekly list, but this is my last first episode. I think I will stick with this. That brings my list of weekly shows this season to 13. Not sure if I'll be able to keep up with that many.

I really wasn't expecting this anime to be a bit interesting since it was a time travel anime that I didn't even read the description of since I thought it'd be another Erased but crappier but it's actually kinda nice.
