It was a classic awesome shokugeki no souma episode :3

I know right. I just can't wait for the next episode. The showdown between shadow and light.

Tadokoro : Light
(What's that guy's name again?) : Shadow

Amazing pacing on this episode. Let's hope this is continued. I imagine that people who didn't read the manga might not like it though

Damn, this episode was direct to the point, straight to the match where they left off. AWESOMENESS!! Just hope it wont be too rushed with it being only 13 episodes.

I forgot how cute Alice is with those eyes. LOL! I like her more than Erina

I enjoyed the episode overall. However, like most people in this thread, I think the episode felt rushed. I haven't read the manga up to this part yet and I still feel it's rushed so it's a little bit worrying. I kind of wish they would have had the opportunity to take the show at a slower pace with more episodes so they can go into more detail. Food should be savored slowly to truly appreciate all its nuances. ;A;

Whose decision was it to make this just 13 episodes? I want to send them messages about whether they really want to shove down their next 13 gourmet dinners in the span of like 10 minutes. :V

I was kinda disappointed when i saw that there will be 13 episodes unlike first season but it turned out great... they even made less hentai scenes, I wonder why's that??!

This is fine, I rather have them rush the Quarter finals, which was mostly one sided matches and was obvious who was going to win.

For those telling it's rushed read the manga again (chapter 62-66)
-Chapter 62 condensed multiple fluff parts but it was a Faithful adaption
-Explaining the Isobee part took 1 full chapter 63, Mostly flashbacked in the episode
-Chapter 64 had 1/4 of Alice's school background omitted, 3/4 was adapted faithfully, Judges reaction to Alice's dish was almost non-existent same with the episode
-Chapter 65 had the flashback shorten, otherwise adapted faithfully
-Chapter 66 Adapted faithfully added one page of Alice's reaction from chapter 67
END OF EPISODE (You don't see Alice's Crying face until chapter 67)

This episode wasn't actually fast paced, it was the manga that had Slow Wall of Text explanations, and Wide shots eating up more pages.

Just for further reference for the next episode
Megumi vs Ryou took 5 Chapters (6 if you count Chapter 72 which had the results)

I've read the manga, haven't watched the first season, then decided to pick this one.

I have to say it's actually great, the anime enriches the enjoyment of the manga. About the pacing, I actually like it here, since the "battle" part in the manga felt so slow for me.

Surprisingly fast paced, especially considering the previous season was pretty slow paced towards the end. It needs to slow down a bit, but overall a pretty awesome first episode.

I'm glad to see them again ! I missed Megumi :). I hope that a third season will be announced because 13 episodes is too short to fully adapt the story.

I wonder how they are gonna rush Souma's second battle?
That part actually has some important emotional scenes, so I wonder how they will cut some of it.

I can't believe that I almost missed the first episode, thank god for the notification that MAL has. But I loved the episode. I'm looking forward to see more of Erina too. The op song is ok, it could grow on me like the last first seasons op.

I feel like the pacing's fine-ish especially since the chapters and expressions in the manga tend to be really drawn out at times lol

Man that felt rushed. Didn't feel the tension or the excitement that he was going up against Nakiri Alice. Not a manga reader myself, but it's clear they are rushing past these food battles. Apparently, they even skipped an entire chapter.

3/5.

Yeah, I have a feeling they're gonna keep on skipping. Wish it really was 26 eps instead of 13 - the anime's gonna get even further behind the manga than it already is.

Is Souma ever going to lose? I think not. The show will be about his opponents showing incredible cooking techniques and the judges (or whoever is sampling their food) will show a reaction which is lackluster compared to the reactions Souma's dishes are going receive.

Except...he has lost before, it isn't as if he doesn't even know what it means to lose. We all know he's a genius, yet I see his winning streaks differently than you do. I think that despite his victories, most people are still anticipating his potential to be revealed gradually with the opponents he faces. It's not as if he's staying the same one opponent after the other. He's evolving at a incredibly rapid pace and learning so much more after every 'match'. If he was way too OP, then honestly I would hate characters like him, but because he has more human characteristics I quite admire him. He's very incredibly skillful, hardworking, and a likable person and sometimes characters like him seem to have a one track mind, but I do see some kind of dimension in him.

Also, on a side note...I do feel this episode was rushed. Yet, I think I'm okay with it. If they drew out scenes from Souma's past with the grandma or Alice's past...I think I would be borderline losing it. As long as you get the point across, and don't screw up big time by skipping out the most important parts, it's good for me. I do wish that they could still do that without making things happen too fast, though.

The manga barely had many hentai scenes from this arc onwards, or atleast it had less than the the previous volumes/anime.

I enjoy the series because I love cooking and I love food but it's no different from action/fighting Anime/manga where the main character is undefeated and no his father doesn't count. That's a running theme in most series, the main character is undefeated but is unable to defeat their mother/father/grandfather/uncle/goat etc.

Fanservice for both the girls, boys and foggies. The Ed/OP song whatever it was, was okay.

I think they will have to rush it if they want to show the entire festival. Or if they stay true then they show will end when the festival is midway. I personally liked the first episode. Gave the vintage shokugeki vibe :P I am totally fine with rushing if they can maintain the quality. Let's wait and see. We'll get a better idea after episode3-4 as to how much they will stay true to the manga

I'm glad that Food Wars is back! ^__^

Considering that there's only 13 episodes this time around, I'm not surprised that a few things will either be rushed or skipped. Yukihira and Megumi's trip to the kids cooking class was skipped, but it was still made it in via a small flashback due to the candy that helped Yukihira inspire his bento dish.

Either way, the pacing still worked out well for the first episode. The soundtrack remains epic, the animation and art has improved over the first season and the OP song, which was used for the ED, is as intense as I hoped it would be.

A great start, and I'm looking forward to seeing Megumi & Ryou's match being animated. =)

Awesome first episode. Seems like the animation got better too. I got goosebumps when I heard Souma's theme near the end per usual. Glad they are sticking to the same format, even though the episode felt sort of rushed. Still enjoyed it nonetheless. Can't wait for the next ep!

I don't think they will animate the festival on this season. Most likely it will end with stagiaire arc.I think the tournament will ends at episode 9 may be...

they went mach speed on the first episode. I expected an episode of buildup to the Alice vs Soma fight. Not that it wasn't a bad thing, but Soma basically fodderized Alice when she had the highest score during the peliminaries.

What people mostly don't realize, there were barely any buildup for Soma Vs Alice, even in the manga.

-After the meeting with Isshiki, Someone was supposed to come in to Soma's surprise. But this was omitted. continuation of that part was a in different chapter but was replaced by the same conversation you can see in the anime about "Alice can only see one dish from Soma from here on, while Soma says she can continue to see his dishes from the audience"

-Also people complaining about Tension, Read the manga people. Once again it's barely there in the first place. Souma losing in the quarter finals is impossible, nothing important is on the table but just bragging rights.

So in short, The problem isn't the anime, but the source material itself. Soma vs Alice is one of the weakest written battles in the Tournament.
