THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

And so it ends. The manga is like 5 chapters ahead of the anime right now.

At this point I've given up on watching tennis, I'm just watching people pull off ridiculous moves that would make even Dio Brando cringe.

Overall a decent set of OVA's, much better than the TV Series "New PoT". 7/10.

America representative? Hype! Good to be out of the camp, it's about time. I am really excited for Ryoma x Ryoga team up. The second half of the episode was awesome.

The little time Ryoma and Ryuzaki had was so nice, Ryuzaki was so sweet to Ryoma, I ship them! Good to see the guys back at their high school too, even though I've forgotten who they are.

Guess it will take another 3 or 4 years for a short 10 episodes sequel. ):

This entire U-17 arc has been an up and down ride. I feel like there's too many characters and when you try to give everyone some screen time it starts to drag. What's even more surprising is that I don't think Echizen has played a full match yet?

Wow, I was surprised to see the date. I remember reading that just a little while ago.
Made me snicker, definitely the mangaka's OTP. XD

Too many characters to give screen time. I can't appreciate my favorites in awesome animation that way. :(

if you want an actually good and down to earth tennis anime, you should hit up Aim for the Ace. One of the best anime ive watched in years. be warned the subs for season 2 have come to a halt at episode 2.

Whoop, not a bad adaptation even if the show is as far away from tennis as it can get anymore. 7/10 just because I'm invested in this franchise.

All of this. I'm so upset I didn't even see Royma have a single solid match.

Okay, I was expecting the 14th to be Tezuka -You know, maybe he would be ready by then- but turns out they said it was Echizen. But will Echizen play by America or Japan? Maybe he will train there and then come back? I would like to see the brothers in the same team and playing against Japan tho :x

Also, am I the only one wondering why the bald guy is one of the 13 !? I mean, no Sengoku, or at least Tachibana or Chitose? Why ? :/

And if Echizen plays for America, which i still find unlikely, I wonder who the 14th would be.

14th player for Japan is pretty much unknown at this moment. The coach didn't know that Echizen was kicked and/or is going to be a representative for America instead. I think Tezuka is a safe bet! Oh well, here is to a very long wait.

I'm annoyed that Kite made it as a Japan representative but Yanagi didn't! There's several other players who are better than Kite but I guess they had to include someone from Higa :/

Ahhhhh why is it the end already?? We never got to see Ryoma play a full match lmao, I don't care too much as he's not even in my top 10 fave characters but still, it's like the show forgot he's the main character until the end. His scene with Sakuno was super cute! (Is it just me or did Sakuno sound different from before? Wondering if she got a different voice actress or what..?)

I'm a little surprised Oishi was picked for the U-17 team. I didn't think he was that good? Eiji beat him in singles before. But I'm guessing they picked him for essentially being a doubles specialist, we'll never see him in singles.

Gin was probably picked because he's the strongest power player, and he's needed to balance the rest of the team which are a lot of people who rely more on special techniques than pure strength.

No Chitose, despite obtaining the Pinnacle of Great Wisdom, probably because he's not as popular as some of the other characters and his playing style isn't as flashy.

Atobe as captain makes perfect sense, he's a natural leader.

Why Echizen though? When he's already been kicked out of the camp. Guess they don't know he's joining the American team. That 14th spot might be given to someone else later.

Overall though it's a nicely balanced team. I'm hoping we'll get a new anime sometime. How can they leave us hanging like this when the excitement's just beginning!!

Final ED is everyone except the Yamabuki players! No one cares about them lol

It ended where it's just getting interesting imo. As of this moment, the manga has gone much further. I think I'm gonna skim through it and see what happens next.

EDIT: I'll stop following this series at this point. I'm sad how this series fell so low, but I'll always love the old POT (the one with 178 episodes only)

That was an unexpected turn of events at the camp. Didn't think Echizen would be kicked out like that. He may still be "mada mada dane", but it seems like that last move was the spark he needed to strive for greater heights.

Well overall I think this is where I finally part ways with Prince of Tennis. It's been six years to the day since I first started it and while I enjoyed it early on, it really lost its flare along the way. Ironically, ratcheting up the special abilities & tennis powers only took away from the impact of the matches. But I think that PoT's fatal flaw started with the Nationals OVAs - it chose quantity over quality. Rather than flesh out important matches, it just kept cranking them out in single episode format. At some point, I mostly lost interest and each breakthrough moment in the matches just made me mildly think "Oh, he powered up? Neat."

It's truly a shame since I thought PoT would be a keeper in my sports anime hall of fame at one point. To this day, Echizen vs Akutsu & Atobe vs Tezuka still remain the peak of this series. The fact that it hasn't produced any matches worth comparing to those since then says it all for me at this point.

5.5/10 and farewell Prince.

On a final note, they really upgraded Sakuno. She was so tiny in the original series and now she looks like a high schooler...or maybe more accurately, now they all look like high schoolers.

Super final edit (making up new moves!): Thinking about it now, just for all of Sakuno's efforts to draw a bit of good luck, I'll pop my score up to a 6.

Really entertaining season, I'm glad that all the new characters get their time to shine too.
I feel like I pretty much know all the characters even though there's so many.

Just wish there was more since every episode only was about a single match-up.
Curious to see how long it'll take before we get a continuation.
