Honestly a lot of people probably went into this expecting some up in your grill gritty "epic" action series because they've heard about this Kill Em' All Tomino who has not even been that way since the early 90's when he was going through a pretty infamous depression. If people want a show like something he would have directed during that time period they can always watch the next Urobuchi creation as he pretty much modeled his style after depression era Tomino albeit while seemingly having far less to say that could possibly matter or speak to your average every day person.

As for the show, I'm not surprised but people seem to have absolutely no clue about the themes at play in it or probably just don't care because they just want something flashy and cool to watch and that's all that matters, but a lot of what happens in the show is inspired by current Japanese politics including energy policy and the move to amend the constitution to allow Japan the right to deploy forces overseas for the first time since the 1940's. The likes of Tomino, Miyazaki, Oooshi and some other older creators see this as a really bad move and in the former two's case have made their own works to sort of act as a critique of this. As for what someone else said, for a show about the aftermath of the U.C conflicts it's a pretty cheerful and optimistic show with a pretty low death tally so far ala Turn A Gundam.

I just don't think it's the kind of show for the typical kind of user you see on MAL though so it's no surprise it's not popular on a site like this that wants it's shit flashy, cutting edge, brooding with dark depressing themes, and really just kind of in your face and forever vying for your immediate attention. G-Reco doesn't vye for your attention desperately, but it kind of requires it to get the most out of it IMO.

To be honest, I enjoyed Turn A more than this series so far. The characters in Turn A were much more likeable, especially the dual chemistry between Kihel and Diana. Here in Reconguista, the characters are just... boring. The chemistry is a bit off between the characters but I can't pinpoint exactly what - it just doesn't stick together.

In the hindsight though, Reconguista still has a long way to go before the end while Turn A was watched serially in a short period of time. Perhaps watching Reconguista in sitting of multiple episodes at a time might make more sense... assuming I don't fall asleep.
bla bla bla
The endless debate between fans and haters. At one point, after spending a lot of time on MAL, you just realize it's totally pointless.

Based on the 7 episodes I gave this show, the plot is an incoherent mess and the characters are one-dimensional and nonsensical in equal measure. Gorgeous animation not withstanding, it's simply not a good show.

Sorry, not every show has a plot as simple as DBZ. If you can't deal with Tomino then stick to shounens or children's anime.

I kinda have to agree with what they said Tomino's other Gundam works were easier to follow than this mess.

G-Reco is a flawless masterpiece that is so complex only the smartest of the smart can understand it and shall be heralded as the show that crushes the likes of Texhnolyze in complexity and subtlety.

G-Reco is flawless. Everyday when I get up I thank God for letting me live at a time where I can experience the greatest creation in human history. I am forever grateful to have witnessed the birth of something that will only truly be understood generations from now, like a modern Beethoven.

i wonder how much the score will drop, I was expecting negative backlash from the start and even with very low expectations this show was a let down, but i never expected it to get AS negative flack as it did, I feel like the show might have its score hop up to about the same score as age but nothing definitive.

Very bad, hard to understand.
Its look i am watching conversation between crazy people.

I know Tomino have many idea on his brain.
But he must compose it in more sane state.
Or maybe its to late for his age.

I thought it was pretty good. I was pretty sceptical at first, the first 5episodes bored the living shit out of me and I didn't understand Bell's motivation or what the actual plot was.

I stayed on the boat nonetheless and surprisingly enough I got hooked by the show. The plot was interesting as well once I had a good grasp on it. I think people lash on it because it takes time for the story to develop, for the characters to "grow", there's little connection between episodes and it's pretty confusing at first.

In the end, I loved to watch Bellri's progress in the G-self and a bit frustrated for at his God-Kira actions.

My main gripe with it is how outdated it looks. the visual quality is akin to smth in the late 90s. the designs look ugly as shit. I got eye raped and stopped watching this at episode 13 or was it 12 when they introduced the new opening. I could tolerate grandpa gundam to turn A because they came out a long time ago before I even knew of gundam. Like what's up with the art decline post 00? Age and g-reco had pretty horrible designs g-reco having the worst, age at least i tolerate age-fx and legilis. IBO on the other hand tries to dig itself up only shit design in that series is kudelia, mikazuki and atra but it is kind of scary to see them every episode.

I consider IBO, Age and G-reco to be the dark ages of modern gundam TV series(spin-offs and OVAs not included)

If most people think it's bad... then it's probably bad. In my experience, bad things get high scores all the time, but good things getting very low scores doesn't happen.

1. "outdated"... isn't this what we say about tools/things that become useless / less effective thanks to progress? THis series clearly uses the full means for a TV series of its time period, I'm sure it benefited more than the average actually, even if if was reduced to half the desired size.

2. Really? What were the scenes where it become apparent? I have watched 9 episodes now and still haven't seen a default in the movements, particularly not in the battle scenes. Did it occur toward the later half of the series?

3. I dislike this kind of design, especially in Gundam where it doesn't fulfill my "Yasuhiko style" expectations. But in no way it is ugly, a good point would be that it even looks more than different enough from the common things of the period and of 80s shows.

@alterzero OK, you won. I guess I find them ugly too then. xD
The "grainy quality" (how is this "quality"?) is not the drawing style, the grains are an effect applied to the outlines if I remember well. That's why it looks often "fake" (since paint colours, animation and many other visual elements shout contemporary).
May I ask what is a "AA" please ?

I remember hearing so many people say they were dropping this series when it was airing. I ended up watching all of it tho, and the only things I honestly liked about it was the soundtrack, character/Gundam designs, and the animation style.

The characters themselves, their motivations, and plot were a pretty big miss for me, and the dialogue is incredibly wacky.

oh it is absolutely ugly in my opinion. opinions exists. and the entire art style quality is pretty grainy like during the time we don't have AA. so it looks outdated
