THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
So typical, formulaic & boring, I struggled to keep interest.

I thought this was pretty good. I really wanted to see what was in the tower (whoops better read the manga), but there was a bit of rushing with many of the scenes that this should have been maybe a two or three part OVA or something.

Where is the continuation? The ending destroyed me. I liked it and I am very curious about the tower and the 3 mirrors.

This OVA has typically good animation, as you'd expect from a late 80s Mecha OVA, with some really expressive and fun character acting. The art is good, even if the artstyle is quite generic, and the same can be said for the music and direction... and that's all this OVA has going for it unfortunately.

Plenty of exposition, but essentially no conflict, since the OVA never justifies why the main villain is standing in the way of the good guys, or what's so bad about becoming a 'third class citizen', and has an incredibly flimsy explanation for why the council or whatever doesn't want to destroy the tower, effectively leaving the entire plot up to interpretation.

Why are there 3 giant floating mirrors in the sky above this planet? It's mentioned once and never again, so we'll never know...

Feels like about 50 minutes worth of context was missing from this 50 minute OVA, and worst still, since characters have little or no introspection or real characterisation, we have no reason to feel attached to them at any point throughout this story, meaning it feels about 20 minutes too long.

Pretty cool for what it was. The world seemed interesting and I liked the bug-like mecha designs. MAL has this listed as an original but Anilist says it's a spin off to some novel. Don't know what's really going on but either way, looks like we'll never know what was in that tower. I liked the music a lot too. Kind of reminded me of the Project A-ko soundtrack. I watched the credits but didn't see any of the same guys listed, so guess it was just a coincidence.
