| "Welcome to Egoist Cafe! How may I be of service?" A warm friendly greeting, along with any drink you could imagine. This cafe is a favored meeting place among thirsty citizens. Technologies here include a large plasma screen that shows scenery of the city, as well as color changing lights, that fit the time of day, season, or weather. Sit, chat, and enjoy yourself! |
| The doors to the cafe sprung silently open as Mana walked in, her heels clacking softly against the pristine tiles of the cafe. She stopped short next to a waiter and took in the blue hue surrounding the interior. With a smile, she signalled to the waiter the booth she wanted at a secluded corner near the back of the cafe and went towards it. "Can I smoke here?" she asked as she settled into the seat, flinging her handbag down beside her. The weight of the bag was much lighter now that she had unpacked most of its contents at her apartment. |
| Soujiro I come to the cafe after unpacking all the stuff in my apartment and the only person in there was a rich-looking girl with a cigarette in her mouth. I decided to buy a drink and walk over to the lady. I lean on one of the chairs near her and start to speak. "You know...they have those electric cigarettes for decades. Are you more of an old school smoker?" |
| Mana looked up at him and didn't reply straight away, taking her time with her slow intake of the cigarette. As she did so, her eyes glinted with both amusement and....something as she regarded the young man in front of her. "I do prefer to think of it as vintage, hun, but I suppose there will be the few youngsters who will think of it as old school. I suppose your next remark will be something about how it damages my health more than the new and revised form of smoking?" She smiled lightly and then gestured to him. "Sit, I was just thinking I wanted a companion. It's awfully lonely in here." |
| Soujiro "Nah. I don't care about that 'damage to your health' crap." I take a seat and put my drink on the slightly-hovering drink holder. "And, yeah, it's quite deserted, probably due to people working around this hour. The only reason I'm here is because I just moved in not too long ago." I say, grabbing the drink and taking a sip. I take it away from my mouth and motioned at the lady. "How about you? Due to your clothes and other accessories, could you be too rich to work?" I said, laughing a bit. |
| Mana laughed at his assumption about her wealth. "Hardly, the clothes and accessories I'm currently wearing are actually the last of my belongings. I came to this city with not much more than you see," she spread her hands outwards with the cigarette clenched softly between her teeth as though to show proof of her words. "And you? A young man, are you here to start a living?" |
| Soujiro It looked like to him that her words were genuine. "That's the plan. Since people like me are here, it makes stuff a bit easier for me. I hated all the attention from normal people without powers who would ask me 'Can you hypnotize anyone?' a dozen times over. At least here, people won't just be around me because of my power." |
| Mana chuckled. "Well I suppose it would have something to do with the fact that we all have our own powers to rely on." She then turned away briefly to order a coffee and then turned back to Soujiro as she snuffed her cigarette out in the ashtray beside her. "It also seems like we all have a past that not all of are proud of, making this City an ideal place to settle down in." |
| Soujiro I raise an eyebrow at her last sentence, but it's probably best I say nothing of it. I take another sip of my soda and think of how to reply to that comment without looking as if I'm trying to find out something about her past. Last time I did that, I ran a mile and a half through a high school campus at night. "Yeah, it's quite the place to stay in for the time being. Especially for my career and my interests in some stuff." I say. Good. If I slip up and try to get a backstory from her, she at least would be interested to hear mines...I think. |
| Mana chuckled as she looked him over. Seeing the bait he set up and curious to see what he had in mind, she asked, "Oh, so you came here with a career set up? And what does that include?" |
| Soujiro Hmm. She asked for my career details? Alright then. I can handle that. "Well, I have this acting career of mine and also a little writing on the side. I came here because of the fresh audience and the fresh environment. You? " I say with a smile. Well, since she got some info from me, might as well get some as well from her. |
| "I'm actually unemployed," said Mana with amusement as she leaned back with her coffee. "Though I do plan to open a bar with the little money I have left sometime during the week. Do stop by, I'll give you a treat as an acquaintance of the owner." |
| Soujiro "Hmm. I'll be happy to take that offer then." I say and drink the rest of my drink. I remembered that I should start heading on to the theatre, so I stood up and put my card under the scanner for it to pay my check. "Sorry. I have some stuff to do, so I'll catch you around. Here's my number." I say and gave her a piece of paper with the number on it. I then took off on my hoverboard down the street. |
| Mana waved the paper at him as he left, a grin still stretched across her face. "Bye bye, then," she chuckled as she looked down on the paper with the number scrawled across it. Taking one last inhale of her cigarette before putting it out on the ashtray in front of her, she stood up to leave. |
