I didn't think the ending had much "unfolding", it was more like the viewer being force fed everything that supposedly happened in about 10 minutes. Maybe the movies will be awesome, but these 11 episodes as a whole fell apart after a good start. 7/10 Well, you rated CG higher than Eden, so you must be wrong. I thought this series was great. The whole missile blowing up scene at the end was epic, and as usual it was animated amazingly. I'm interested into why he slipped the phone into her pocket an what is happening with Mr. Outside, Number 12 and the others. I guess we will have to wait for the movies. 10/10 |

First off I was expecting an explanation about the Johnny ghosts Takizawa could see. I don't know why but I figured it as an important matter in the show. Who is Johnny ? Can't wait the movies. So, to make time pass by I'll just sulk in more airing anime. A 10 out of 10 anime. |

I could build an answer just with the last episode, when I really grasped the relationship between Akira and the NEETs. They're like a team and their commander, and he clearly addresses them as "Johnnies". The name might be a sex joke on what they probably don't use (especially as not engaged people). In my opinion, the white puppet-like ghosts he sees are a reminescence of his relationship with the NEET group: he erased his memory, but returning to Japan triggered something in his head, and he kinda remembered. I recall just two scenes with the Johnnies: one where there's the broken highway, where they all come to him as if they were greeting him, and he was happy; the other one in the dream where the Johnny Hunter (lol the pun backfires!) takes away one of them: he's probably scared because one of his friends/team members get taken away. tl;dr: for Akira, Johhnies are the NEETs, and the white ghosts are confused flashbacks of them from his wiped memory. |

Yeah it feels vague to me too, I will soon have a rewatch of the entire series to catch anything I can, I'm sure I missed many many things. Furthermore, re-watching something with such a twist in the end, is a must: many things gain new meanings. Anyway, yeah, Johnnies are the bottom line of the show. |

DeathfireD said: My thoughts on what happed. 3) His last request is related to Saki. Right before the static on the phone he says "Damn this merry go round doesn't have a golden ring". Could mean he wanted to have juiz list them as a married couple in Japan (gold rings symbolize marriage). This way when he is King she will continue to be by his side and support him. It's a long stretch but I figured I'd mention it. I don't know if "golden ring" had this "marriage" meaning o_O "Old fashioned merry-go-rounds had a machine that held a fixed ring off to the side and above and people would try to reach out and grab it as they went by (a new ring was presented when someone managed to snåtch one), but the ring wasn't that big, you really had to extend yourself, and also the timing of the rise of your horse had to be right to be able to even reach it. The rings were iron, but there were one or two brass rings in the mix. It came off in your hand if you could get it, and if you got a brass ring you turned it in for a free ride or a prize or something. It's where the expression "go for the brass ring" comes from, for when someone goes all out to gain something that's partially due to luck, or if you pass up one chance to get a greater reward on another try." |

I've developed a new theory. On the very first frame of the 11th episode, we see three movie posters; they all seem strictly related to the episode itself and the future of the movies. The rightmost one is called "Butchery Lucy and the Sunset Kids", an obvious spoof on "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid". Akira himself refers to the movie, later in the episode. This is a reference to the shooting down of the missiles, action scene, save Japan, etc. The middle one is the most vague of the three, to me: it seems to read "Little Pirates find out treasure xxxx xxx", but I can't distinguish well, and can't recognize the movie it comes from. It might be a reference to the Seleçao receiving their money and acting as over-the-law beings. The last one is the most interesting one: "The Witness" is a retitleing of "Rear Window", a movie by Alfred Hitchcock where a man with a broken leg, forced to stay at home, witnesses an homicide by his rear window and tries to frame the culprit. It is interesting because the only person who could fit the witness role is none other than Saki. Just as Lord Genome ordered Viral to witness the rise and fall of Human kind, Akira might have told Juiz that he wants Saki next to him, as companion and witness of his role. It feels like fitting well... What do you think? :P |

And I´m still thinking that the "golden ring" is another symbolism for that too. Like I said before, I think the "golden ring" and the phone in Saki´s pocket is just a hint that Saki will play an important role with Takizawa in the "new reign" with him as "king" and her as "queen". He wanted to ask another thing to Juiz. He said "another thing, Juiz" as if he was to ask for something else. But he didn't. Why? Because he spent all his money asking Juiz to make him the king, so when he was about to talk with Juiz again (in the scene when he put Saki on the gorund again) he realize that Juiz is now gone, so that's why the weird sound (because the phone is dead now) and his strange expression is because he didn't get the chance to ask Juiz his request about Saki. Also, why he put the phone in Saki's pocket? If he erased his memories, he´s not suppose to know who's Saki. AND it will be so pointless because everybody was there and know him... AND he said to Juiz that he wanted to be the same person he is right know, so why would he wanted to lost his memories? It doesn't make any sense to me. |

Um did they ever explain why Takizawa was in freaking Wshington with a gun in his hand??? Man that sucks they didn't explain that. It would be super dumb if he erased his memories, but I doubt he did. He didn't have the money for it since he used it all to become a king and he put his phone in her pocket, which he wouldn't have done if he wiped his memories. Still, it was an excellent series. Far too short. |

I'm afraid the fact that he erased his memory is, indeed, a proved fact. Go back to episode 1, minute 4.30: you see Akira undressing himself, then putting the phone to his ear, listening to those dialup-like sounds, then makes THE SAME face he does in episode 11. There's no mistake: he erased his memory again. Of course I don't know why... I suppose it might be so he wants to begin his kingdom as a simple boy, not as a former Seleçao. But that's just speculation. I hope we'll see in the movies. :) maxime1007 said: Reference? Sorry if it have reference it is not from TTGL. No. Also we didn't really see Akira's face in that scene. They only show his mouth when he hears the sound, so how all you guys are so sure that is the same expression? I think they probably want us to think that, that he erased his memories, but it have to be another thing. Is like that episode when Akira was with the woman with blue hair. The episode ended as if she had wings, etc, and then in the next episode it turns out that that was just Akira dreaming. So how could you say is a fact? Come on... we don´t know anything here :p |

aoikishu said: And the woman with the blue hair used some of her money to make the illusion that she had wings, he wasn't dreaming. Really? I always thought that was just a dream because in the episode after that, he was having a nightmare about that and when he wakes up, he´s with Saki... Another thing, The weird sound of the phone could probably be just Juiz "making" him the king. After the sound, and Takizawa´s expression, Saki says: "And just like that, he became a prince." |

ilonga said: Really? I always thought that was just a dream because in the episode after that, he was having a nightmare about that and when he wakes up, he´s with Saki... Oh right, forgot. He was unconscious when that happened so I guess he was dreaming. But Saki was there and saw the illusion. Another thing; someone earlier ( yes, I've read about every post in this discussion :P ) said that Juiz didn't confirm his command until after he asked for "another thing". But I just watched it again and she did confirm his request to be king before. So he has no money left to wipe his memory. I really don't know why most people thinks he did except for the phone making noises and his face expression so I'll stick with my theory. Conclusion: He had no money left to use to wipe his memory. I believe he had to go to a facility to wipe his memory the first time. WHY would he wipe his memory He gave the phone to Saki afterward.. not possible if you don't know who she is. There's no point, Saki could tell him everything etc... Personally I think that when he was about to ask Juiz for another thing, that he was going to say "thank you" but she was already gone because he can't use the phone if he has no money. I know I would make a face like he did if that happened. Giving the phone to Saki is going to be important in the movie Mr. Outside might have been the Cab Driver The supporter might go after him since he's out of money, but I guess it's up to Juiz and/or the supporter or Mr. Outside if he's alive. I don't remember who it is that decides :P I'm kinda glad it ended without being totally clear. Making and reading theories is fun ^^ |

Exactly. He wouldn't. In order to cover up the missle attacks he had to know about them and to be aware of the situation in the first place, else he won't be of any use as the king of Japan. "There's plenty of smart guys in this country, but no one willing to take that role." "But if there's just one kid who believes it..." We can only assume that Juiz is an AI (she sounds like an AI and everyone talks to HER) but when #1 was informed that the game was still on and no one should celebrate, he found that she was moved hidden from everyone. We can only assume that she is an AI but she talks like a normal person. The possibility of her being human still remains. Yeah I noticed the cab driver the first time it showed him when they were on the way to the Mall. But they also hinted more heavily at it the 2nd time when he was outside the mall and smirking. My thought is that on the first memory erase he was intending to get himself jailed (gun in front of the White House while being naked) but ended up saving Saki. Second time, well, no clue why but clearly he wanted to start over and YET he says I hope I remain the same guy. P.S.: I love brainstorming with you guys. QFT edit: I just thought of this: Why did all the NEETs come back when they did (happens to be the same day of the bombing)? Was this listed in the episode? If not: Did TaKizawa purposely bring them back when he did (future knowledge of the incident) or was it just the bomber bringing them back to kill them. |

I liked the anime all through the series and im not going to complain about it being only 11 episodes because they could have stretched it out and it could have sucked. I thought the ending was pretty good and liked the music that was playing along with the missiles being shot down. I didn't however expect the "Make me the King in exchange for the rest of his 8 billion" request though. Considering he dies when all of his money is spent i think he might've made a bad call on that one.I'd like to see the resolution to the request though in the movies. |

i haven't read all the posts but i plan to when i have the chance so i don't know if this has been brought up yet. but if Akira spent all of his money to become king then wouldn't that mean he is out of the game, and the Seleçao that killed the doctor earlier going to come to kill him now. since he made himself king why would he erase his memories (i don't think he did).if he erased hes memories he wouldn't even know he was king and he had to have a plan of some kind to save the country if he was going to be king, so getting rid of his memories again would be useless. he could of made another request after asking to become king even though he had no more money, though i have no idea what it could be. just because it wasn't shown doesn't mean it didn't happen. and if he is no longer one of the Seleçao, out of the game, he wouldn't need the phone so he gave it to Saki. but there is supposed to be twelve Seleçao even though 2 are dead could new people be brought in to the game in there place? and is it possible that Saki could become a Seleçao in place of Akira? it says they will die if someone else wins the game or if they use all their money for their own purposes but it never says if other people will be brought in or not seeing as it is possible that all twelve, eleven if mister outside is #12, could fail at some point and someone has to save the country. sorry if this stuff has already been mentioned at some point earlier. |

As the whole show, this episode was so hard to judge. For one, the plot is really bad, at core. Yes, it is. It plods along, and the characters, while appearing proactive, are indeed merely reactive - just see how the whole "mystery" with Mr. Outside was solved earlier, by a damn infodump. The characters are subpar. There's really not much complexity or such to them, no human spark. That's on the other hand okay, they are likeable and well portrayed. Though a few episodes more of Pantsu and Micchon wouldn't hurt. On the other hand, it is so fresh. The ideas come totally out of left field at times. Sure, the "people forced into life-and-death game" thing is trite, but twenty thousand angry NEETs saving Japan with cellphones is decidedly not. And damn, that bang > Spike's bang. I really don't know what to rate this thing, or what to think of it. |

So... Akira rules over all of Japan now? Awesome. But... how can he, if he used all of his money for that? Why did he put the cellphone in Saki's jacket? Perhaps Akira is the Supporter after all : that way he can live on. Well, there are still the other Selecaos who might come after him. Why did Akira let the neets come up with ideas to destroy the missiles and didn't he simply ask Juiz for it? Just say ''Juiz, destroy the missiles in the safest way'' and say that the neets saved Japan. Easy enough. So why didn't he go for that? Looking forward to the movie. |

Coming off of a show, movie, book, or whatever with interpretations of what happened is totally fine to me. A sign that what happened was bad, or poorly executed is when you have no idea about what went on, and can't make a hypothesis because everything was just everywhere. I would disagree that the plot was bad at its core, because I don't feel like it plodded on. There were two separate stories going on (Akira and his memories; Akira and Saki) that blended together in an unforced way (except for maybe the episode with Saki's job, but that ended up being a very important episode in stating the show's theme), and as was said, elaborated on an overused device in a comical and novel way. I do agree that some of the characters are reactive, but I think that can only be true of the ones not apart of the game. Akira and the Selecaos are clearly the ones pushing the plot throughout the entire show. The mystery of Outside was solved by Monobe's shrewd determination. I think what it comes down to is whether you like your narratives to unfold itself with action or dialogue. Even though there was a quite bit of plot and character development through action, it was all framed in very natural and grounded ways (Saki stepping onto the boat, detective giving Akira the phone, Saki stepping outside the elevator, Akira kissing Saki, Pantsu walking out the door, Oosugi taking action against Akira, etc) and the dialogue was framed in dynamic ways (Akira getting caught by the doctor, Shiratori and Akira, Monobe's helicopter monologue, etc), so it comes at a complete antithesis to shows that like to use action and extremes in environment to push (and often force) characters to develop. |

DragonsWhip said: So... Akira rules over all of Japan now? ya, that's interesting because Japan doesn't have Kings, the person who rules Japan is the Prime Minister of Japan so that's going to be something we'll have to find out. RubyRedRabbit said: XD me too! After I saw this part I was a little scarred haha o_O ihcTactics said: We can only assume that Juiz is an AI (she sounds like an AI and everyone talks to HER) but when #1 was informed that the game was still on and no one should celebrate, he found that she was moved hidden from everyone. We can only assume that she is an AI but she talks like a normal person. The possibility of her being human still remains. I think that Juiz is an AI system that is based off of her because she has the same voice and says the same things. Or, she could be Juiz herself !-! |

I just thought about something. Maybe he put the phone in the girls pocket after he used up all the money on it because it wasnt his phone. It couldve been the phone that "Panties" was working with and disabled the fingerprint ID on so Akira used the other guys money up.Maybe. |

Great show, but I thought I detected a social message that passed over my head. Does anyone know more about this or can point me to a source that does? Oh and my prediction: Open the pod bay doors, Juiz... ...a joke, a joke. |
I pulled into Nazareth, was feeling 'bout half passed dead. I just needed to find a place, where I can lay my head. "Hey mister, can you tell me, where a man might find a bed?" He just grinned, shook my hand, and "No" was all he said. |

I'm having somewhat mixed feelings about the last EP. Sure the end was epic and all, but too many things still remained unrevealed, just as i feared. I sure hope the movies really have some new material and not just some fast-forward-recap version of the series. |

The series overall was really good. It kept me entertained even with its weak plot. The art and the animation was great (as expected from P.I.G.). The social message and philosophical stuff was quite well-done. And on some level the anime also gave us an answer so there were no problems with it. 8/10 |

What can I say...? This was easily the best show this season. I can't wait for the movie to come out now. |

I dont know why but I feel the story wouldve been a little better if Panties had died instead of being revealed at the last minute to be put into the hospital, I thought it woulda had a better feel to the story. |

Really an excellent episode, the track race with the NEET was really funny, I laughed at it ^^ The scene with all the explosions under the blue sky was really beautiful, it give thrill ^^ Akira will be the new king of Japan, this show takes a more unrealistic way and I really wonder what will happen next. Can't wait for the movies. Also I think I passed close to many details and I think I will rewatch this show . |

New theory, that fits with the "he had no more money to erase his memory": when someone finishes its money, Juiz clears their memory. It's a bit shaky, because the doctor guy seemed broken (I can't remember exactly) but he was then killed by someone, probably the Supporter, and he surely still had his memories. But maybe he closed the phone, after finishing his money, and did not listen to those sounds... Don't know, but I thought I'd share with you guys. :) |
