because MAL is full of people not as old as us? and is entrapped with this mentality that animes today are superb? or simply didn't have a superb taste as us?

It wasn't hyped, it's a remake of something most people here have never watched, and maybe because people judged the cover to be a space opera (like LOGH) and avoid.

...Or we just have awful taste.

Yeah, let's go with that.

MAL is being consumed by "the hyping phenomenon" (it need to be patented btw) where in the shows they need to watch are those that are hyped because webster is considering now to put hyped in synonym with good

*btw, i meant no offense with my comment, i merely just love to play with words and think what have happened to humanity as of late

Yeah it's probably because not many here are familiar with the original or Star Blazers, and ofc no hype involved. Too bad because it's actually pretty good.

I didn't know what's Star Blazer/Yamato until I saw it on Anichart's list. It hasn't been well received due to ...

- Lack of recommendation and "advertising" of 2199 in MAL
- Volume releases periodically instead of episodically releases.
- Poster doesn't attract much people.

I've always... always been watching you... This whole time... Because you were there... That's why I was able to try hard. So you could have some balance! So you wouldn't treat me like a kid! So you would see me as an actual girl! Even while you were gone... You were right here! You were right here in my heart!

Because it's a space opera that's why. I mean seriously any not earth bound stories will always be overlooked not just on MAL but on today's anime community as well.

The point of a remake and a reboot is to introduce that particular entertainment whether movies, video games or anime, into a new and a wider audience.

since majority hailed SAO as a good show? stupid anime fanbase nowadays

well its not popular in MAL, but it is very well received in Japan, a note worthy attention this superb remake it deserves. It couldn't get a movie by next year if it ain't.

and let the people nowadays watch the anime nowadays, its nice to see them be left out of what is supposed to be what they're watching

calling themselves superb anime fans yet don't have the guts to touch the iconic old schools

I just saw this with a high score on the top anime list and started watching. The original show is probably almost three times my age. I dont get it... why must a show require "hype" in order to be popular? I dont get why people dont search for shows based on their score instead?

I have no idea why people dont like space operas. Slice of life high school is just so bland and boring most of the time.

Cause a lot of times the score is just a reflection of that hype. Honestly I consider it a miracle that this show even exists in this day and age and that it's getting further followups in 2016 by the sounds of it. To me it could easily serve as a template on how to reboot a franchise. It's a shame that it's just so hard to get people to watch shows like this anymore that don't come from the usual VN/LN walk. The overall production is absolutely superb, the storytelling pacing and characterization just fantastic and there's almost no downside to it throughout. It's just a solid production that gets ignored.

Maybe with ACJ Daisuki streaming on this site now and Bandai who produced 2199 being the principle partner in that they can start marketing and getting word of mouth out there again. Ever since they pulled out of the Western market a few years back there shows have just had no profile over here which makes sense. They need to get back to getting that word of mouth out there because they do make a lot of great stuff and if people could just see a show like this or know it exists I don't see why it couldn't succeed on it's own merits the rest of the way, but you do need that exposure.

It's pretty insane how much the profile for that genre has dropped off, but I don't think it helps that a lot of these projects start as OVA's now, something people don't seem to watch a lot of anymore. If this was a TV show right from the get go and again better advertised outside of Japan I just don't see why it wouldn't do well unless things have really just been allowed to regress so far that anything that isn't a high school romantic comedy is just invisible to people now. I really don't know. I also notice that when people actually do watch them now they're super hard on them and hyper critical of pretty much everything, but then a show that shows loli panties can be an instant "masterpiece" and attract tens of thousands of viewers and is highly sought after and revered.

The anime communities tastes and attention is really bizarre nowadays and kind of alien to me and I just think at this point there's too wide a gulf between older fans and newer fans on what the appeal of anime is even supposed to be. For older fans it just seems kind of like it's a style of animation unique to Japan and you get the stories within that framework and sensibility, for newer fans it seems to mean this specific stable of otaku tropes and fanservice appeals and a certain feeling of self-awareness and meta aspect too it. Characters are often now categorized into very specific labels like yandere or tsundere or Gary Stu and it doesn't really go much further than that, but if you were to try to apply those labels to the cast of Yamato...well it's not really that simplistic.

A little bit of harmless necroposting.

I stumbled upon JSDF Marching Festival video on youtube (watch first 3+ minutes) and guess what was played at the beginning: song from FF first and then the main theme from USY. To be honest, I was aware that it's a big title in Japan, but I had no idea that it extended outside of anime subculture. Either that or JSDF are nerds since there was OP from Shingeki no Kyoujin later as well...

Now that makes you wonder how come so few people have seen it here.
