How was the anime? And would you recommend it over the manga?

Also, how much of the manga did the anime cover?

I haven't read the manga yet, so I can't compare, though I plan to read it. The anime climaxed at the Smoky Mansion and ended with Gareki leaving the ship to earn his credentials to become a part of Circus. I don't know what chapter that is though.

This was actually a really good adaptation. They stuck really close to the manga. The pacing is a bit too fast at times, but I think the anime also did a better job at presenting the information in a clear and easily understandable way. Sometimes the manga was a little confusing or unclear when it came to explaining certain things. You could easily watch the entire anime series and then pick up right around 35 or 36 (or possibly even right at the start of Volume 7, I can't recall exactly off hand). I would suggest once you get caught up on the manga to skim through the missed chapters because some of the relationships are expanded upon a bit more in the manga than they are in the anime.

I wouldn't necessarily recommend the anime OVER the manga, but rather, I think this is a really good example of where I would definitely recommend watching the anime first and then head straight into the manga where the anime finished (rather than skipping the anime entirely).

Personally, I liked the manga better because Nai was less annoying (to me at least). I wouldn't say that the manga is wayyyy better but imho definitely an improvement over the anime.
