For Sakamichi no Apollon's defense, the character Seiji Matsuoka that you talked about in your review wasn't out of place at all. It was during the 50's and 60's(post-WW2) that pop and rock music bloomed and that's why Seiji Matsuoka became a star as seen in the last episode. Also, earlier time setting doesn't mean everything's serious. Matsuoka's dynamic attitude kinda balances the show.
The bathroom scene, also, is not out of place IMHO. It's nice to see some elements that an anime lack(which it therefore doesn't) or having something evident to say that the anime was made in the 21st century(when people are pervs, lol).
But as for the rest of the review, it was greatly justified. The anime indeed felt rushed.
