Which is the best martial arts anime? Feel free to come with several suggestions! Personally my three favorites are Naruto, Bleach and Karas. In terms of both special effects and story they are really neat, even though two of those three are labeled "mainstream anime".

It's not only about fighting, but the fighting scenes are cool :D

I didn't know there was a follow-up on Grappler baki!? :o

The best martial arts anime is Ranma 1/2! Then Dragonball Z, Street Fighter II, and Yu Yu Hakusho. If you consider Naruto and Bleach then they'd be some of my favorites too, what about One Piece?

Dragon Ball Z is my favorite for this poll.. About the others.. I think Tenjou Tenge is one of the most realistic types (although there was ki users etc..)

Hmm, lets see ... Shadow Skill, Air Master, Tenjou Tenge. Shadow Skill has to be one of my all time favorites because it's one of the first animes I've ever watched. Karas and Grappler Baki were mentioned as favorites so I am assuming they are pretty good. I've had my eye on both for awhile but haven't checked them out yet. Guess I better get on that. Do you all highly recommend those or are there ones that you would recommend above them?

Basilisk is another good series. Some of the ninja arts in that series are kind of gross though. Especially nose hair, and glob monster. ha, I don't remember their names.

Karas (top-notch series) has both an awesome story and inane animation, too bad they only released three episodes thus far. I'd watch 'em if I were you, though! Grappler baki (above average) was okay, I didn't really like they way they animated it, but the fights were pretty cool. Air Master (average) is OK I suppose, many cool fights but semi-poor animation (she looks horrid). I didn't really fall for Basilisk (average/below average), the fighting scenes were mediocre and everything that wasn't a fighting scene was really bad ^^

Oh, and I wouldn't call Tenjou Tenge realistic, it's about curses and ki and god knows what :P

Gah! Karas was showing in select theaters on the 27th and I missed the chance to go see it. I agree with your opinions on Air Master, there were a lot of cool fights. To bad the animation wasn't consistent throughout the series though. There were a lot of episodes where Maki looked horrid. I think Basilisk was meant to be more so of a love story than anything. At least it came across that way to me.

Tenjou Tenge isn't realistic in the least, but then again, if you're looking for realistic, you shouldn't be looking to anime to find it anyway.

Hmmm I agree Karas is one of the better martial arts animes I've seen... I mean that intro of the first episodes... Dang I get goosebumps every time I watch it.

Naruto is also pretty good when it comes to the fighting scenes, However the rest of the story I haven't quite fallen for... I mean it's alright but it's not like I'm dying to get my hands on the next episode :P

One of my favorites is Hunter x Hunter... The fighting scenes are not really impressive but the story behind the fights is... Now I know that some of you are thinking along with "well there's a story behind every fighting scene so what makes Hunter x Hunter so special...?" and my only answer would be: Watch it and you'll know :)

And lets not forget Shaman King... Just awesome :D
