It's kind of a dumb question, but I really couldn't get the meaning (translation, what fits better) of this word. And yeah, I know it's the title of their song.

Oh hi!
I was told later that:
Sola = Sora = Sky
Nin = People

So something like people reaching the sky, like chasing dreams. If this is correct, I don't know.

actually it comes from the word solanine,the poisonous green substances sprout in potato,or in many species of the genus Solanum, including the potato (Solanum tuberosum), tomato (Solanum lycopersicum), eggplant (Solanum melongena), and bittersweet nightshade (Solanum dulcamara).(wiki)
the lyrics also has this line

"tatoeba yurui shiawase ga daratto tsudzuita to suru
kitto warui tane ga me wo dashite"

it means
"supposing if the slow happiness had sluggishly continued
surely a bad seed would have sprouted"

Just like this user said, “Solanin” is basically a derivative word from Solanine. I’m currently reading the manga “Ultra Maniac” by Wataru Yoshizumi, (she’s well known for her manga ‘Marmalade Boy’), and at the end of volume 4, she talks about her trip to Kenya (Africa) in a short comic format. During one of the tours at the Mupata Safari Club, the tour guide was describing plants they’ve encountered and what their medicinal purposes were. Then they come across the plant “Solanan Inkanam”, other known as “suicide medicine”. You eat about 3 of these and you die within 5 minutes.

I thought it’d be interesting to add this tidbit in this thread since I know there are people probably still confused what the title “Solanin” means. “Solanin” is most likely based off this poisonous substance, which could slowly kill you, or fast if you choose to consume more of it. I can definitely see a connection to the main characters and how they could relate to this plant. Perhaps, having to deal with society and their own lives is so poisonous that their future is blinded and they can’t cure their own poison. So they feel stuck. Music is the only cure and outlet that they know of.
