According to Chunichi News, anime director Kitamura Masaki was arrested for posting a threatening message on the official website of Osaka City. He allegedly posted a message saying, "I'll kill creepy otaku in Ota Road by running them over and will stab people indiscriminately." Although he's been denying the crime, the IP address of the message was identified as his cell phone's (or that of his wireless device, in another source).

Kitamura is 42 years old and was one of the assistant directors of the Mobile Suit Gundam 00 series and the director of Gundam Evolve's episode 10.

But that doesn't mean he was responsible for the crime. There's not enough evidence.

Indeed. Although knowing the strict policies considering cell phones in Japan, I'm inclined to think he's most likely guilty.

Goodness me he probably underwent too much pressure. Sad guy all that directing made him snap. Hopefully he's proven innocent and it's some other guy who did it using his phone.

Maybe he watched too many episodes of Gundam AGE.... Anyway, it's good someone actually monitors comments/posts on such sites.

Yeah, I don't think there's enough to make a real case on there.

But also you can just take the sim card out and put in another phone and then you would seem like he wrote the post on his phone when it was someone else's. He could have also been drunk when he put it up. Those posts happen alot in America but it is rare for the cops to knock down your door cause of that. He could have been being sarcastic. It's no excuse but are the cops that bored they have to arrest a guy for a random post like that. If he said he was gonna do a terrorist act then I would say arrest him.

Not to mention the fact that phones are easily hacked and anyone could have just hacked his phone and wrote that message that way. Everyone on this thread needs to not take everything they read as fact and start jumping to conclusions. But alas, the people that have already posted with comments assuming he definitely is a mentally disturbed person that hates otaku will never think anything different. Disappointing.

Perhaps people are jumping to conclusions but you're obviously just letting your fanboy feelings take over common sense.Just because you like Gundam 00 doesn't mean everyone who were involved in its creation is a saint. I like it too, and I hope the guy will be proven not guilty, but again, it's Japan. They know their stuff there, and at the moment it looks like the chances he's guilty are much higher.

No actually, I'd be saying the same thing if it had been any other director (and in no freaking way whatsoever did I imply that everyone who worked on 00 is a saint, that is incredibly stupid). Its also irritation on the general mentality of this board from every single other news thread I've ever read here. I'm just trying to say that there are too many people assuming it was him and making judgements about a situation with barely any information. This kind of situation is pretty serious business.

They don't care, Japan's judicial system doesn't give as many rights of the accused as we do in the US and Europe.

Living in an orderly society like Japan's it's easy to build up a lot of repressed anger and stress, and sometimes people just snap. Cases like this aren't too uncommon.
