Huh, it seems like the writers didn't know about power steering...

If I had been the captain I would have sent Kodai to check the strait again, whether it's big enough for Yamato. True, maybe they don't have time for 100% certainty but they had already wasted 20 days, a couple more hours shouldn't be too much. Another thing I noticed is that they left for a trip lasting a year with only food supplies for two more months now. Surely Yamato could have carried enough Spam for the whole trip.

Kodai's attachment to his parents and his brother is touching, but it also feels a bit immature. Maybe it's a cultural thing as in some cultures people are expected to stay really close to their families long after they've moved away to have a life on their own. Still, the way he cries for his parents in his dreams makes him look like a boy.

Not too bad, a bit of inconsistency in the details but overall pretty decent episode!

Well, looks like they left Earth in a hurry seeing this bad food management. On the other hand, it's not like they were flooded by agricultural grounds on the planet, so they might have left with so little or else the survivors would have nothing to live.

So some of them are thinking about starting a new human civilization on another planet.

Actually, that was my first thought when they got FTL drive: move to another planet.

Apparently there's a clear dome over the Yamato now, but only in some shots. It feels like they were just writing the series as they went along. I'm still not sure how getting rid of the radioactivity on Earth is going to help much. The oceans are gone and the surface is a lifeless, barren wasteland.
