Stupid question because it is listed as an alternative version, but just to be sure.
And by the way, is the movie worth it just for fun?

The dislike probably comes from the nature of the movie...since the movie is non-canon and has nothing to do with the series itself a lot of people(admittedly myself) were disappointed and wrote it off.

It's not bad, not nearly as bad as people are making it seem.

You should watch it and judge it for yourself. My only problem with it was it's gratuitous use of stock footage, but it definitely utilized it better than most other productions I've seen.

Pretty much this. Premise is interesting, but if you're already a fan of the first series, then this pretty much kills it; alternate dimension playing out certain scenarios in nearly identical fashions just doesn't cut it.

For a completely stand-alone movie, however, it's actually pretty good. It's just impossible to not have the experience marred if you've seen the series.

There is like 2 weeks delay in my recent reading list
I randomly bought discount/second hand manga with cute/mysterious cover.

Use Personal Blacklist extension in Chrome if you just want to Google for a series synopsis, without google slapping MAL score in it.

As far as I understand, The movie is not necessary for the story. It's a separate, almost "what if" type story.

Don't listen to these people. You SHOULD watch the movie. For one thing it's not THAT bad, it's kind of sweet and has some pretty good action scenes, but there's also the possibility that it will tie into the larger scheme of things, what with Spec-V, and the movie version of Spec-2 (with TheEnd style homing lasers) appear in the new opening.

AO is way more boring than the movie, the fights are uninteresting as hell, mostly because they don't have as much slick lifting action, all the characters are boring and the pacing is terrible. The only thing that keeps people interested is trying to figure out how everything ties back to the original, and most of the exciting moments are ones where Eureka shows up because it reminds people that it's a sequel.

Pretty much this, if you're able to set aside what you've seen and just lose yourself in the setting then it's actually a good movie. Most people though are way too one dimensional and can't help but cry that the setting is completely different. I mean I've completely zoned out the series within 5-10 minutes, from there on out it was an awesome experience. Honestly, the arguments that movie was bad are pretty weak and trivial, almost nitpicking.

Not to mention this is exactly how AO should of been, a STAND ALONE.

The move itself is actually not that bad, personally I liked it, but it's understandable that it is considered bad or mediocre because it's a simple alternative version. It even re-uses a lot of scenes from the series (along with new footage, though)!
I have my own anime blog. It's called Anime Viking. Hope you'll you read it!
