And ufotable really did leave out a LOT of Kirei's characterization.
I mean for god's sakes Kirei is supposed to be a second protagonist if not the protagonist of F/Z.

It's true that lots of Kirei's parts felt rush. Meanwhile Kiritsugu had 2 whole episodes dedicated to his past. I sense FAVORITISM from ufotable.

Having not finished the episode yet. But from the discussion, I guess ufo has not paid emphasis on one key reason why Weaver used up all the commands. In the novel, Weaver thinks of himself as a burden for Rider, for in last episode, the sceen of Rider vs. Saber, Rider jumped out the chariot much earlier than the last chance in order to make sure Weaver survive. Using up all the commands, Weaver just hope Rider can do his best in the final battle and not to be a burden for Rider.

I imagine a lot of the details may just make it into the new manga Young Ace magazaine is serializing instead. Such is the sad reality of anime, you can't fit it all.

You are talking about Fate/Zero manga? Ugh... I've read first 3 chapters, it was even more butchered than anime. And the more I hear of this manga the more I consider it non-existant. I don't like substituting plot with extra worm rape, gore and penises into face, thank you very much.....

True. From some reviews I saw it's just gore/torture and bromance fanservice.Having read only the first 3 chapters I doubt it will be better than the anime both in art(Surely there are many manga that have better drawings than their adaptions or other anime in general) and story telling.

Not to mention it takes like what a month to release one chapter?
Even F/HA full patch is gonna come out before the manga finishes...

While Nasu and Urobuchi may like him as a character, I seriously doubt that they would like him as a person or approve of any of his actions. Really, Iri and anyone else in the story with a moral compass would agree with Drac. Interestingly enough, Kirei is probably the only human being that she has ever hated.

I realize that. Maybe I'm taking the word "official" too literally.
Though I find it hard for myself to consider him worthless among the all Fate characters. It's not like you're obliged to hate some character because he's an evil bastard. I mean, even Shirou likes him, lol.
Well, considering how ufotable left out some points of the novel that made Kirei interesting and even sympathetic to a degree, I guess it's only normal that anime viewers strongly dislike him.

The only thing that surprises me,

Or we can just say that he's the antagonist, since that's what he is.

Kirei may be evil but he wasn't truly an antagonist until the very end of F/Z and beginning of F/SN. If anything the antagonist of F/Z is reality which Kiritsugu and Kirei both loses against.
Though it is easy to label him as one because Kiritsugu is considered to be the main character.

You are sort of missing the point here. The second protagonist comment is not about his role in the story, but about the amount of time and story development he gets. Not to mention lots of insight into his inner struggle.

Antagonist just means that he is enemy of the Hero and it doesn't necessarily equal receiving much of screen time. On the other hand protagonist has to appear a lot, because if he didn't he wouldn't be one.

The word you're looking for is deuteragonist, but that's not as descriptive nor as correct as antagonist because Kiritsugu is the protagonist and Kirei is the person he's fighting against. I get what you guys are trying to say about screentime, but there's no rule that antagonists have to get shafted in terms of screentime and/or character development. Kirei has always been the antagonist since he's the single person that is most opposed to Kiritsugu. No points missed here.

The real one also did that sometimes. And if we ignore how he acts/thinks toward the end of the HGW then he isnt any different from the real one.Pillage, kill, loot are part of him.It doesnt make him any better than the real one if he stopped doing that because of Waver during the war.

And this:

Conquering hearts?

Military strength is a crucial element in showing off a ruling king's power, an important factor in determining who's in charge. Without military strength, the only thing left in a king is his ideals to bring glory to his country, with no power to prove that he could do that. In Saber's case, she does have the dream but not the power to make it happen. Rider, however, knows that to realize his dream it is inevitable to raise an army, and use force if necessary, but that doesn't mean that he opted to solve everything with military might. In the scene when he intrudes Saber and Lancer's battle, he convinces them first and foremost, then move on into negotiations about 'shares'. He also acknowledge Clinton as a powerful rival in the modern world. This means that FZ Rider prefer to conquer intellectually, rather than using force to get everything he wants. What about the real Alexander? His story is filled with endless war, we won't know whether he is actually a negotiator or not.

So, I still think that his character is different in FZ. There are same elements, but in FZ his character is "nicer" and "more intellectual" than the real counterpart.

I'ts clear from his actions in the beginning that he likes to loot and that he doesnt give a damn about others property. As for the real one I will answer you :He wasnt a negotiator.Thats the only difference between Alexander(Rider) and real Alexander. Is Rider better than the real one?Yeah but still he isnt the type of guy that would do all things peacefully. He probably wouldnt sell women and children as slaves but war IS in his blood. Also half of what you said(Clinton, need for military strength)prove what I say.if you ask me he already has enough military strength;no need for Saber,Lancer or Gil.If he still wants them even if they dont care about his dream(Since all of his heroes follow him for that dream) then he is just obsessed with making his army even stronger.
Is Rider a lot more nicer than the real one?Yeah if it wasnt like this people( me included) would hate him almost as much as they hate Caster and FZ would lose one of it's best characters but plz dont romanticize his past actions.

Irisviel. ;_;

I knew it had to happen one way or another, but the scene was still unpleasant to behold. Also the scene of Irisviel's nightmare with Ilya, and her being engulfed in a sea of black mud. Kirei just reached another level of villainy now that he has found a purpose in the war. To utterly destroy his archnemesis Kiritsugu Emiya after learning of his intentions.

In other news, the end seems to be near for the Waver/Rider team. I do wonder how Waver got busted, though. His magic wore off? Good thing for him that the formerly unsuspecting elderly couple he was crashing with was cool with it. Or maybe the joke was on him and that his magic wore off some time ago already.

Waver used up all of his Command Spells, but fails to "resign" as Rider's master. I see this event serves to demonstrate that losing all Command Spells doesn't necessarily mean the end of the Master-Servant relationship, especially if the Master and the Servant are on good terms with each other.

That 'Anime Shower' is a block for MBS channel.
Tokyo MX airs F/Z earlier than MBS. It's MBS who will be cancelling shows this weekend, that's why they will be airing two episodes of those shows next week(except for Accel World since all the channels will not air it this Saturday).
Most probably we'll still have the regular episode of F/Z this weekend.

What I meant was what Archein wanted to say with "true ideal".Kiritsugu's wish/ideal is clear for those that follow him and us viewers.Whether we and Iri/Maiya agree with it (or have the same wish as him) is another story.

seriously ; don't tell me that Airi talk is not boring !!! unlike keirie and Gil

discussion .. it's Very enjoyable and interesting

if FZ was like this:
Kirei:What is Emiya Kiritsugu's wish?
Iri:To save the world
Kirei:Okey.Thank you.Die.

Then I doubt it would have the fans it has.And please decide already. You want characters to express what they think/do or to be mute so that you can ask what the hell is happening in the series.

Bffff... your reply does not make sense

anyway ... everyone has his opinion about a character ... and i just found Airi

boring

You know what makes no sense?
People like you that consider the dialogue boring and then storm the threads with question after question for every little thing that you could find out by yourself just by PAYING attention and think about it a bit.Asking if things could happen any other way(other people) is different from asking what the hell is going on(you).

In a series that every char more or less does the same thing every ep(Kirei is lost,Kariya is in pain,Kiritsugu points his gun to someone,Gil more or less says to Kirei the same things over and over again ,etc) you found only Iri "boring"....At least give a reason that wont make me reply like this ever again.

Rejoice. There will be some not so "boring" scenes in the next eps.

If some people want action every-episode-all-episode, there are plenty of animes like that. No need to troll F/Z threads.

Have faith in niconico.
As a child, I was told that society is a melting pot of talents; knowledge and experience combined to form important alloys that will contribute to mankind. When I got to highschool, however, I thought that it's more like a river in which the water represents our peers while we ourselves are the stones in the river. Constant erosion by mindless majority sheeping has made us lose our unique edge. After I hit the age of 18, I realized that I've been wrong all along. Society is no melting pot. Society is no river. Society is a person, a very skilled rapist, and he has fucked us all.

I'll tell you why i'm saying that Iri is boring

she is a main char in this anime ....but not different from the other char in the other anime ... , you know ... she is so nice ,naive ,she do every thing for kiritsugu without thinking ... even that she has not understand his ideals

you know ...such this type of characters is repeated in many anime .... so Iri has not something special ... then I consider her a boring char unlike the other main character like kiritsugu Kirie, Gil and Rider.... they are so differents and specials... it's very rare to find such awesome characters in a single anime .... but Iri ... i found her a Traditional character

and if you considered Gil and Kirie dialogue is procrastination in the events ... for me ; it is the best dialogues in fate zero

I like Gil/Kirei dialogues too. Gil/Kirei & Rider/Waver have the best dialogues imo, mostly due to their chemistry that I don't feel bored watching them talking, Gil & Rider also have some hilarious one-liner that show off their personalities very well.

About Irisviel, though I don't necessary agree, I can see where you're coming from. She has a lighter personality than most of the cast so maybe that's why you feel she's underwhelming. Personally I adore her, especially in the scenes with Saber. She's also a beauty so that's a plus.

Naive? You do realize that Iri follows Kiritsugu for her daughter's sake right? She understands his ideal but at the same time she hasnt felt the same pain he had(probably) so most of his feeling are unkown for her.She hopes she wont feel them by letting Ilya follow her fate. It's funny you consider her boring with only like 4 big dialogues(one with Kirei and probably 2 with Kiritsugu) in 22 eps.God, she even had some action scenes with Kirei.

I wont comment on how "traditional" Kiritsugu(destroy evil with evil) or Rider(conqueror of hearts) are.Or the lost+sadist Kirei.

Gil is probaly the exception since I dont really rememeber other "charming" villains like him at the moment.

Then if you like dialogues in FZ let every char have his/her moments.
