THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
This episode was kind of confusing. If I hadn't read the manga up to the Miki arc, I'd have no clue what was going on. It seems like they chopped up the manga and pieced different parts into this ep. I'll have to go back and check.

What really annoyed me was "the weapon." I don't know if it's just the sub I watched, but the chain is totally bathed in light every time it's shown, making it too shiny to identify. And the way Miki holds it at first, it seems as though she is holding a knife. In the manga, I know it was a knife that she had. I'm not sure why, but for whatever reason it seems like the knife got edited out. The weapon is constantly referred to as "that thing" instead of what it actually is (whatever it may be, chain or knife).

Any insights to this?

I hate how the chain was so bright you couln't see what it was exept the one time it was attached to the wallet, but otherwise a good ep.

Of course they can't use a real knife. They are concerned with PG ratings after all. That's probably why they made it shine like that at first. To make it more intimidating. Hehe. ut I think it was overdone a bit.

I thought for a moment that the series switched genres and we go into some magical weapons show, but then luckily it turned out to be a normal chain with weird scenery.

So wait, this girl is getting raped at home or what? And she wants Yuzuyu to take her place? Cool story.

This show really has its ups and downs. Pool episode? Golden. This one? What the fuckery.

As I expected Miki has hijacked the plot for an episode or two. I would also like to see more Kippei and Kokoro but I think we'll have to deal with Miki's problems first. So a knife will cost you a PG rating, but cigarette burns (and probably slash marks beneath the wristband) won't? The knife does make more sense in terms of Miki's persona.
Please don't feed the trolls!

... She is SOOO a rape victim... possibly family however I feel it also might be somebody else and when the truth came out she became a shame to her family just because she was the victim. Honestly don't think that is what happened but all signs are pointing in that direction.

At the end of the prior episode I had an itch that there was much more to Miki than appeared, but how it turned out really gave me a whiplash.

Well, I've actually just undergone a total shift in how I see this show. I think the point of this show is the rough spots in the life of an extended family. As such, this not a 'side problem' but instead another installment in a series of features on how life for many people is far from sunny fields of flowers and butterflies.

Though certainly not nearly as dangerous as a knife, a bicycle chain can do some nasty things. It's actually a fairly good choice if your intent is to intimidate without risk of the really serious consequences using a knife would have.

I was hoping that would happen, coz now Yuzu is more open about Kipper and Kokoro 'thing' but now Miki is gonna have screen time =/ also saying to Yuzu that she wants to die it's evil, Yuzu it's just a kid!

There sure is a lot of child abuse for a show about raising a child.

Someone that wants to take Yuzuyu away, good that they won't take her away just yet! And well another scene of child abuse...

Lets see what's next!

Hell of a thing to say to a 5 year old at the end there. This is getting awfully dark.

I was a bit confused about the burn marks. Is that something she did to herself to cope with whatever problem she's facing or is that part of the abuse? I'm a bit mixed on Miki's appearance because although I'm now interested in her story, I wish this show had stuck more to Yuzuyu, Kokoro, and Kippei. Or even Marika and Shouta. Or hell just rename this Aishiteruze Marika because she's hilarious.

So the marks were cigarettes burns? I couldn't figure out what they were.

At first I didn't understand why Kippei's family even let Miki in in their house, she was basically a nobody. It seemed like the producers needed her there and there she went. But it got better when Miki's parents showed up.

Man I'm really gonna have to pick up the manga to understand this girls backstory aren't I?

Also I can't say the whole hitting thing isn't unfounded in Japanese families but holy hell this is the most I've seen in one series. She and her parents need desperate amount of help that's for sure.

Well, damn, looked as if she wanted Yuzu, turned out she just ran away from home, due to her dad. Interesting episode. More child abuse though.

this weird ass subplot about miki just feels unnecessary, if anything. if we're going to develop a subplot, can they at least execute it well enough?

This series really likes child abuse I see.

The family were too easy to let a stranger stay at their house, not even Reiko's reasoning made sense for me either. As if child abuse wasn't enough the last line in post credit scene is shocking.
