THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Non-end.
Second season announced. "The Tower of Druaga - The Sword of Uruk" is its name. It will air in 2009.

I must say, this episode gave me back my hopes about this series. Indeed, the setting, characters, plot threads and etc. were way too big for a 12-episodes series, and the creators are going to continue their anime with a second season. I'm really looking forward to the sequel.

They are neither plants nor animals.
They differ from other forms of life such as the micro-organisms and the fungi. Instead they resemble the primeval body of life and are generally known as Mushi. Their existence and appearance are unknown to many and only a limited number of humans are aware of them.

Sort of smart move with open ending, considering poor plot development and such. Ovarall, I gave this series 6/10. Good animation and music on one hand but... bad plot and character development and fluctuating production values. Hopefully, 2nd season will have these issues resolved.

This was one of the best (best non-comedy) episode of the season, which really depresses me that I have to wait at least a year to see it completed. This means we will have another 1 or 2 episodes devoted towards re-introducing all the characters, etc. which could bog down the next season as well.

Currently the show is wavering between a 7 and an 8 for me, quite unsure as to which one I will pick.

Whoa, a predictable ending (Kaaya betrayed everyone, and same goes for Neeba with Fatina and Utu) but I still loved it. And Jil also wanted to bring back to life Ahmey with the Rod, I guess. Looking foward SS.

Well...that was pretty cool.
Neeba and Kaaya had the same motive which was pretty much obvious...since...they were always very sneaky.
Now...Will Jil go up yet again? Hmm...

Overall I gave the series a 7/10.

Pridictable ending and it sorta pissed me off but i liked it and waiting for season 2 will be a pain. So let's hope 2008 flies by!

Of course Jil will go up! or die trying at least...

It was decent, but not all that great. Story shifted focus a bit too much between episodes, jumped around a bit, and didn't give enough elaboration on the story. Just not enough insight on character development. However with a lot of the characters killed off, I'm hoping that it may supplement these short comings in the second season. Worth the watch, anyways. Also, it was a good 'ending', but the overall series structure just fell apart, as aforementioned.

edit Oh yeah, and I scored it a 5/10 :p

Well, at least with the way things were going, GONZO made a smart move to extend this to a second season. And now we can't call Druaga gay-lookin', since that wasn't him at all. xD

When I look at it from an enjoyment perspective, Tower of Druaga ended up a lot better than I expected, and I surprisingly enjoyed it a lot at times. It was also glaringly generic and annoying at times too. The comedic parts of the show were a lot better than the serious parts.

From a critical standpoint, this show really doesn't deserve anything higher than a 6. Animation and sound was fine, but story structure, character development and the characters themselves was quite average, even bad at times.

I'll be generous and give this a 7/10 for now. There is certainly room for improvement, and GONZO have a second chance with this anime when 2009 rolls around.

Edit: I always preferred JilxFatina paring from the start. My hopes of that is increased with that last scene. ^_^

That was pretty nice ending. The king is badass in the end lol. Did he kill off all of his guards haha. I wonder if he was the 3rd betrayer. In any case it looks like an endless cycle of some kind. The king was probably in Jil's shoes in the past and the ghost that looks like Kaaya was probably his love interest. Can't wait to see the real conclusion in 2009.

This show didn't impress me at all. It had two funny episodes, the rest was generic throwaway fantasy, with a complete lack of character development or a decent plot. The animation was pretty good, other than that it was below average in every way. 3/10 for me.

Neeba was such a badass. I like the fact that they swapped partner.

I'm intrigued enough to wait for the new season. Something I didn't think I would say after watching the first half of the season O.o

Leaving the show on a cliffhanger for season 2 was predictable, with a particulary lame ending where they realise they're half way.

I don't know if i can be bothered with season 2 next year.

It was a pretty good episode, although some things still felt a bit rushed. I was pretty sure Kaaya and Neeba were going to betray Jil at the same time, but I wasn't sure how. The "only halfway through" thing was expected since they went through the tower waaay to quick. The second season was also to be expected since if anyone remembers the end of the opening there was a poster behind Jil and Kaaya that had "2009.7.." with everyone in Jil and Neeba's parties on it, which was a dead giveaway. Gilgamesh's actions were quite surprising, although everything else wasn't.

I actually liked the series compared to some of Gonzo's complete failures for shows, so I give it about an 8.

Haha you're so right !

What a bad way to end a series, the character development was extremely weak this episode and I don't speak about the ridiculous plot : "Oh, so that was only the guardian of the tower, there's a second tower after that ?" I cracked up at this point, it was so lame, it ressembles the worse RPGs honestly. I'm still wondering right now why I watched the full series, and I'm forced to downgrade a little this season (6/10 instead of 7/10) just for that absolutely ridiculous episode. Really, we were Gonzo'd once again.

Well, it's SUPPOSED to be half a parody, after all...
It was exactly for this reason that I expected Druaga to break the Gonzo curse juste as Gurren Lagann broke the Gainax curse last year : both shows knew exactly how much and when did they have to take theirselves seriously.

Well the show wasn't that bad, I guess, but nevertheless it had it's downs... and not a few of them... The final episode was so-so but the thing that really pissed me off was what Kaya did. I knew she was gonna betray everyone but she should have at least left Jil without tying him to her emotionally before leaving (I mean the whole kiss and confession scene). It's like she enjoyed seeing him suffering or what... (making him go through that mini-tower decieving him the whole time and even making him see that he was nothing but stepping stone to her). Maybe she wanted him to wait for her to return from the tower and even forgive her for what she did, but I'd very much love to see her die a painful death after beign tormented by her consciousnes... and well err... I'd like to see Fatima x Jil pairing 'cause both of 'em are quite naive and kind-hearted lads, so I guess they just fit together unlike those treacherous bastards (yeah, I mean Neeba and Kaya). Or maybe the best way to pay her back would be rejecting her when they meet again and saying her that he hates her ('cause there still is quite a chance that she harbours feelings of sort towards him...)... sfx:evil ];)

I showed so much more interest in this last episode when compared to the rest of the episodes.

Anyways, this last episode just proved that if Gonzo makes an effort, it can really make something nice. Overall, episode 11 and now 12 > rest of the first season. Gets a 7/10 from me.

Now as for Sword of URUK, keep it the way that episode 12 showed, and I'm game for it. But I know that in the end, I'll be watching it.

He was the badass at the end of the episode. He said that HE possessed the Blue Crystal Rod and that "WTF, things aren't finished, bitch, the fun has just begun".

I really liked this episode, and I'm actually quite happy about the prospect of another series. They have a really solid base on which to build, although I hope they make some improvements next series, such as working on pacing and some more characterisation.

Holy shit. Great ending to the first series. Can't wait for the second season. But waiting until 09? That's fucking ridiculous. Still Gonzo has some things to work out. For starters that consistent change in plot throughout the series.

I both loved and hated the final episode. Loved because it was great, with an awesome ending. Hated because that ending is leading to a year-long cliffhanger instead of an episode 13. Overall, an 8/10 from me which is probably a bit too generous as the middle episodes of the anime were fairly bad.
