| THIS IS A MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST. ---------------------------------------- Oh its so nice that Akane got to here what Ranma was saying, and that’s funny that she bird girl mentions the nursing of saffron. Hm so did Ranma get a chance to be completely a guy? I think he did since they were at the springs though its not that evident. I really like How Akane looked in her wedding dress.. Its funny that they postponed the marriage, but I must confess it was pretty hectic with all of them gathered in one place. It seems Ryoga decided to be With Akira which I think is great! Ukyo Is just gonna have to accept that they are getting married.. Shampoo being with Mousse doesn’t really fit but his efforts and commitment worked, and seems like a good relationship. Well I had a wonderful time reading Ranma ½ Until next time!! |

| I'm actually soooooo sad that it's over!! I love Ranma :( ♥ I don't like that it is such an open ending. I would have liked all the cursed characters to be cured and Ranma♥Akane should have been married. I feel so bad that it's over. I love those characters so much! They are all really close to my heart since I have watched Ranma since I was a child. It's just too sad that I have finished the Manga already. |
| The ending was more or less what I expected, Ranma finally admitted his love for Akane and we get a super strong inclination that'll get married for real some point down the line. The "Saffron" arc was pretty good for a finale, it being over twenty chapters I guess contributed to more climatic nature and in a lot of ways was the precursor to what Takashi would hone during Inuyasha. Comparing Ranma's finale to those of other Takahasi works its actually funny how Ranma offered more closure then Urusei Yatsura and Inuyasha offered more closure then Ranma, curious to see if Rin-ne will follow this trend. |
| Man, this was an unsanley long manga, but overall a fun romcom for the most part. I like how almost never took itself too seriously, unlike many other stories that start super fun and then turn into some boring semi-serious mediocrity. 90s comedy with 0% pretentiousness and lot of attitude. |

| Started this manga 13 years ago when I was in middle school. Can’t believe I finally finished it, I was kinda sad to let this series end for me. It’s provided so many laughs over the years. This is definitely one of Takahashi’s magnum opuses. I thought the ending was perfect. I didn’t expect - or want - an ending where everything wrapped up and Akane and Ranma were married with them suddenly letting their previous angst just disappear. But it’s clear that they’re entering a new chapter of life with Ranma admitting he loved her. This manga was definitely all about the journey instead of the destination. This last arc really gave me Inuyasha vibes, especially the villain Saffron. Makes me wonder if Rumiko had made that transition between Ranma and Inuyasha on purpose. Anyways, bye Ranma ;_; I will be re reading you one day. |

| I honestly didn't care for the Saffron arc. I just couldnt get invested in the new characters and wasnt a fan of the fights. Also its really frustrating that no ones curses got cured after watching all of the anime and reading all of the manga. |

| I get why people were, and still are fustrated by this 'unconclusive conclusion': Rumiko Takahashi had set a series of intrigues, and none of them found a proper resolution by the end - nothing was actually wrapped up: cursed characters remain cursed, not a single couple was even formed by the last chapter. Yet, I am of the opinion that this - somehow - definitely worked in Takahashi's favour. 'Curses' were never really 'curses' in the first place, especially in Ranma's case (one may indeed argue over differently for Shampoo and Ryoga): it was on the contrary a narrative means to an end. One that would put Ranma into an 'Identity journey'. Erasing from existence the female version of him would have actually worked backwards with the message of the whole manga: the idea of accepting oneself, challenging genders, playing with the patriarchal codes of Japanese society (female characters acting like male role-models, and vice versa) are all themes that Rumiko Takahashi tackled quite well throughout her series. The problem does not lie in the ending itself, but rather in the boring conclusive Shonen arc that predates it. The 'Saffron narrative' was a chore to read through: it actually encapsulated Ranma 1/2 at its worst; i.e. back to back unimaginative fights with a semblance of a narrative goal behind them. The whole arc in and of itself was rendered even more useless by the 'unending ending' - while it worked decently in the context of the theming; it was a bit wrong, and especially a bit shallow to end the supposedly high stakes on such low terms. The whole thing felt rushed; Takahashi failed a little to drive her point home in my opinion. Ranma 1/2 best relishes in the absurd creativity of its mangaka: stories relying on both dumb premises and promises, fights straight up going towards improbable directions (with an unquestionable strong sense of staging them), fustrating, but also really funny misunderstandings; etc. Here is what Ranma 1/2 is known for, and for all the right reasons. Unfortunately, none of these qualities could be found in the last arc - nor in the last ten volumes if I have to be honest. The stories featured in them were not that bad I suppose, but the best of Takahashi's mind definitely left the series for good - it became mostly uninteresting as it went on, far outstaying its welcome. It was time to conclude the manga, and I am afraid Takahashi did so in a rather 'leaving a sour taste in one's mouth' note. I kind of agree with the idea that Rumiko Takahashi already thought of Inuyasha at this point, and was probably testing the waters with the 'Saffron narrative'. I get it, I do, but I do not think it worked in the context of a manga like Ranma 1/2 which had to be, and especially had to remain silly all the time. That may explain why the ending was so poorly received (in the West at least, I have no clue about its critical perception in Japan) - I am quite confident that with a better 'prologue', it would have been easier for the (Western) readership to swallow this 'unconclusive' pill. |
